From what my family members who use Facebook tell me, the only reason you need friends is to annoy them with (thankfully blockable) "updates" on what you're doing in game.
The average Chinese young person has never heard of Tiananmen Square (or at least, they've never heard of the protests). Personally, I have a problem with that.
How will humanity progress without the geniuses? How will we reach for the stars (and colonize their planets)? You need geniuses if you want to progress at a remotely reasonable rate (just look at quantum mechanics for an example of rapid progression spurred by geniuses, keeping in mind that no work is wasted).
On my computer, at least, I think he meant "man filesystems" (plural) since man filesystem is about the signaling event, which isn't very helpful at all.
Just because people regularly bash the company for dumb reasons doesn't mean that every time someone bashes the company it's for a dumb reason.
ObTopic: Just wipe all the OSXen and replace them with Ubuntu 10.04. Install AWN and Compiz, configure keybindings and themes, and no one will know the difference. Then you can use ext4.
No, they left private beta. They're still beta IIRC, it's just that you don't need an invite any more. Wave is actually pretty fragile; it's not coming out of beta for a while.
I thought presidential elections are technically run on a state-by-state basis? That is, each state is required to select some electors for the electoral college, and they all happen to use the first-past-the-post system, but they don't actually have to do that. If this is correct, nothing at the federal level needs to happen to fix the presidential elections; instead each state needs to change.
There's no such thing as a physical crowd on the internet, and the article is about the internet, so why is any of that relevant? When people type in ALL CAPS they tend to get ignored, not just on/. but practically everywhere, so shouting doesn't seem to "work" here.
What do you mean "man hours"? Transcoding can be scripted and automated with ffmpeg. You could probably produce the requisite HTML5 with Perl. No humans are involved in day-to-day operations of such a system, so where are the "man hours" you complain about?

So, why is GP Troll and parent Insightful?
[...] BY DEFINITION, IT IS CENSORSHIP.
If you take that position, then how do you differentiate between removal of spammy posts and what China does?
YouTube doesn't work with IE6 anymore.
The "\"enlightened world\"" is supposed to be the western world.

There is a difference between anarchism and minarchism.
Well said sir!
IANAL.
Having said that, IIRC most copyright laws including the DMCA make exemptions for "archival or backup purposes", which a mix-cd is.
Actually, putbacks are legally binding (see last two items).

Quote from fstab.hd:
"IGNORE THIS FILE.
This file does nothing, contains no useful data, and might go away in
future releases. Do not depend on this file or its contents."
...which leaves me wondering, WTF?
Is the rest of the file there like in Linux? Is there a "rest of the file"?

So why is it so difficult to find queue-based chips these days, anyway?
Some evidence is better than no evidence at all.

It doesn't scale to the number of files. It doesn't "care" whether you have 5 or 5 million.

Human rights are universal. If the law says you don't have them, the law is wrong.
Are you the same idiot who didn't know who Knuth was yesterday?

The police don't have the power to detain people for things that aren't crimes.
Yes, it is.
