The start page for Firefox isn't the default Google page, but rather a customized page with the Firefox logo. But you're right, there are localized versions of that available as well:
The single quotes help you determine where the quote begins and ends. So, in this example, the actual quote ends with the word "movies." It sounds like you were searching for the whole sentence, perhaps? From the article:
Gerhard Florin, head of EA in Europe, said gamers should expect titles that blur the line between films and video games. Many will be sceptical - gamers were given similar predictions during the last transition of console hardware - but this time it would seem to be more likely. "PS3 will provide graphics indistinguishable from movies," said Mr Florin.
While I completely agree that Burnout 3 is an excellent racing game (I'm absolutely hooked and am having a blast), I don't understand why your friend would go and buy an inferior console just for this game, when it looks and plays better on Xbox. I mean, I understand having a PS2 for some exclusive games, like GTA or MGS (although both are coming to Xbox eventually), but if it's a cross-platform title, why waste money on getting the version of the game with worse graphics and no Live play?
I also don't understand why getting Burnout 2 is a prerequisite, according to you. I've never played any previous games in the series, and got into this one quite easily.
I think most would say that is because they want you to buy the Windows XP Plus pack, which comes with additional themes. Only $29.95 for crap you'll probably get tired of 24 hours later, what a deal!
I don't have a portable gaming device, and I only got an MP3 player very recently, but I'm surprised to hear you say that you don't have any situations in your life where either device could be useful. I mean, my delay has mostly been for financial reasons, but there have been many many times when I wished I had a gaming or a music gadget with me to keep me entertained. OK, you don't take the bus to work. But are you ever stuck waiting at a doctor's office? Do you ever wait in line anywhere, like for a movie, a concert, or getting your driver's license renewed? Are you ever on a plane or an airport with nothing to do? Boring family functions? There's gotta be something. As for getting your money's worth out of an MP3 player, couldn't you listen to it in your car? There are plenty of FM transmitters for the iPod and a direct cable connection for some BMW models.

You're a rural consumer, but you haven't jumped on the HDTV bandwagon yet? I mean, come on, how much more rural can it get than that? Wagons! Wagon jumping! Plus, you get a really incredible sharp picture. Or, "picher," if you will:-)
Actually, Shatner's most recent album, "Has Been", has gotten some pretty positive reviews. So yeah, maybe we should stick with Carrot Top as the failure example. Or Pauly Shore.
I don't really see what you're getting at. Keane and The Streets are both great acts. And yes, I'm an American. I don't know if Keane was quite deserving of the Mercury prize, but they have some outstanding songs. The Streets, on the other hand, have released one of the best albums of 2004 with A Grand Don't Come for Free. I highly recommend the debut album as well. I have to note that my wife's not a big fan though, thinks that Mike Skinner's rapping sounds too much like regular talking.
I can verify that they're still letting people climb to the top at Chichen-Itza, as I just went there for my honeymoon as well in August. I would characterize myself as being mildly scared of heights, but this experience didn't seem too bad. And I appreciated the fact that they didn't have some stupid out-of-place guard rails once you got up there, and that it was just as it had been constructed. The scarier experience was actually going up the stairs inside the pyramid to the inner room, for which you actually have to wait in line. Really narrow, similarly steep stairs, except also really slippery as well.
Brad Bird has a pretty big hand in The Incredibles, considering that he wrote it, directed it, and actually does one of the voices in the movie (Edna Mode). Iron Giant is definitely a modern day animation classic, and if anybody hasn't seen it yet, now is a great time to check it out, considering that a new special edition DVD is about to be released.
Considering that every indication has been that The Incredibles is going to be a great movie, I would venture a guess that your friend doesn't have very good taste in movies. Pixar + Brad "Iron Giant" Bird = Movie Magic. The tag line for the Shrek 2 DVD should have been "The best animated movie of the year (so far)"
I completely agree, it's ridiculous. I just went through the same experience that you describe a few weeks ago. When attempting to cancel a free trial that I didn't even use once (long boring story), I spent 10 minutes on the phone with the rep without getting anywhere. He would not let me cancel, telling me that the free time has already been allocated and that I could just call back again, which I kept refusing to do. At one point, I asked him if he's ever heard the phrase "the customer is always right" in his training, and he claimed that he'd never heard that phrase in his life, which actually does not surprise me.
He also refused to put a manager on the line, because supposedly he was in a meeting. After we got disconnected, because I think I started shouting at him and he hung up, I called back and got a more reasonable person on the line, who kept me on the phone for only 5 minutes, after which he told me that there was nothing to do because the first guy already marked the account as cancelled. I hate AOL.
Hahaha, I think that's classic. I really admire your efforts to fight a battle that you can't win, Cpt Kangarooski. Even when common sense should tell people that what they're doing is illegal, and you specifically point out why it is so, they'll defend their position with foam at the mouth. AllOfMp3 is basically a digital equivalent of going to Korea and getting Photoshop for $2 on a street corner, and if someone can't see that, there's really no getting through to them.
Maybe this person should have legally rented a copy of the game from Blockbuster for $4 or GameFly, or actually read reviews from trusted sources that told the person whether or not the game is worth buying? I'm pretty sick of justifying piracy with the "I needed to try it" excuse. As far as I can tell, no one who actually likes a pirated game on their modded Xbox runs out and buys it. It becomes more of a "I'll get around to buying it eventually" thing, which of course never happens.
I tried Foobar 2000 the last time this discussion came up on Slashdot, and had to switch back to WMP. I mostly play audio CDs and it does not have any integration with CDDB/AllMusic/Muzak or the like. Winamp has it, but for some reason is inaudible when playing audio CDs on this machine. Besides, once you get used to the built-in reviews, track listings, and album info from AllMusic that automatically show up in the player, it's kind of hard to go back.
And WMP minimizes into the taskbar in a way that I haven't really seen any other player do as well. Winamp et al are usually just a little icon. I really would use a different player, but they're just not as good (also tried Media Player Classic and Zinf Media Player from Slashdot user recommendations).
Umm, right, because all of the judges are French. Oh wait, the judges panel is headed by Quentin Tarantino this year. But he's obviously a Frenchie in disguise, as witnessed by the whole "Royale with Cheese" dialogue. I have a good idea - why don't you stop talking about things you know nothing about, and just stick to your normal and well-accepted "Hollywood is made up of all liberals" crap. Thanks.
Nintendo should give Gamespot the "business" over that screenshot index for Metroid Prime: Hunters. It had me wondering if the pics were a joke until clicking and finding out the index was populated with the low-detail map screen instead of the main game.
I'm guessing you're not a programmer. With the number of screenshots that a site like that is generating, especially during the week of E3, it'd be absolutely impossible to generate an "ideal" thumbnail for each screenshot that they get by selecting the small area that represents each picture best. So in order to get a nice looking thumbnail index page, they surely have software that reduces images to a specific small width, and then cuts them off after a specific height. This makes the index page look good instead of uneven. Simply resizing each shot to fit that small box would distort most of them, so this is the best solution.
And anyway, if you look carefully, you can see a bit of the bottom non-map screen on each thumbnail. It's not Gamespot's fault that Nintendo chose to put the map on the top screen of the DS instead of on the bottom. BTW, 1-up's thumbnails look exactly the same.
Please don't act so confident when you're really so misinformed. Shipping charges from BMG are $2.79 per CD, not $4.90 or whatever you are making up. Secondly, I agree with the grandparent poster that the price comes out to under $7 per CD easily, with shipping, if you take advantage of a good sale. The site helpfully shows you the per CD total for your order on the left side, which I sometimes wish Amazon et al did as well. If you have found it very hard to locate more than 5 CDs that are good, then you probably either don't know much about music or haven't checked out their catalog in quite some time. I buy few mainstream albums, and yet I still shop there all the time because it saves me a ton of money.
Just because they're good on Xbox does not mean that they're good when ported. I've heard plenty about Halo problems on PC to make me grateful for experiencing the game the way it was originally meant by the developer to be played, on the console (please, no smart-ass Mac comments).
The Xbox didn't have that great of a launch either
What are you talking about? Halo, the most popular title still for this system, was a launch title. At least two of the other titles available the day the console came out, Dead or Alive and Project Gotham, became million sellers. The console also had the best attach rate ever for a console, from what I understand. I don't see how that equates to anything but a great launch, title-wise.
Yeah, I've definitely learned to adjust my expectations of OXM reviews being accurate. For example, this month, despite their glowing review of Breakdown, and the decent demo, I just couldn't shake the feeling that the graphics and the jumping would make the game mediocre. So after waiting for more reasonable reviews from IGN and GameSpot, which bashed the game for its many problems, I'm glad I didn't rush out and buy the game. I might still rent it though, but I don't see how OXM could have given this game an 8.6/10.
Quake was definitely shareware - I remember picking up a copy of the first episode on CDROM by the cash register at a computer store (MicroCenter) and racing home to play it. I'm sure I still have that disk somewhere.
So what? Just return it. And if you've already opened the packages, wait until the new price goes into effect, buy the items, and return them using your original receipt for the higher price. That's why places like Circuit City have the 30 day price guarantee, it's just saving you the trouble of going through with purchasing the item again and saves them the trouble of having to process it.
