Not all LAN Gamerz are hardcore computer geeks. There is an easy 30% that bring their Dell/Gateway/HP/Etc and don't want to deal with the internals what-so-ever.
LAN Go'er: My network isn't working, help!
Staff: Did you configure it for DHCP?
LAN Go'er: Huh?
Staff: *sigh* What do you use at home?
LAN Go'er: Ummm I think we have cable.
Staff: Watch a lot of MTV do ya?
LAN Go'er: What?
Staff: It was a joke, nevermind.
*reboots*
Staff: There ya go.
Hmm. Actually I was taking it from a different perspective...
The portrayal and images of women (and men:)) in porn cause the viewers of porn to have a skewed sense of women or men in general. If Jenna Jamison enjoys her day at the office, there is nothing wrong with that (It's probably a lot of guys and girls ideal job). It's what the viewer gets from the porn that worries me. Perhaps it's just the porn I've seen, but it almost always has a hard edge and women are (seemingly) being used and treated solely as sex objects. I know, I know... it's a porn... they're supposed to be sex objects...
The Cube should really have been marketed towards the 3D Gamer / LAN Party go'er. A nice 3D chipset (Radeon, Nvidia) and a 20 gig hard drive. Try to make the price point as low as possible and they would have sold like hotcakes for LAN Parties. I used to think a Mac sucked for games (1 button? What is that!), but then a group of all Mac gamers showed me that if it can use USB... it can use a USB 3 button mouse:).
Firstly, I apologize for my argument being one sided. It is possible for porn to be derogatory to males as well. However, because I don't swing that way, I don't have a first hand account.
Secondly, I am far from homophobic. I argee with you. Whatever two consenting adults do in privacy (regardless of a home) is their business.
Your statement that I can't say "porn is derogatory to women (or men)" without being a woman is crazy. You're as bad as Jerry Falwell if you believe that. The moral majority will always win if no one can empathize with the minority!
Call me a feminist, but the porn industry is so anti-woman it's disgusting. (To be as fair as possible, isn't the entertainment industry anti-woman as well?). I won't go down the "porn is a substitute for a real healthy relationship", but I can say that porn fucks with your head. In small doses, just like everything, it isn't harmful, but porn is addictive. You need freakier shit to get your jollies, you have strange thoughts about porn in the middle of the day, and more importantly you have a terrible misconception of blow-jobs, women, sex, and relationships. Does porn have a place in society? Sure. Does it deserve to be a 26+ billion dollar industry while it is derogatory to women? Probably not.
Equal Rights Porn, Now! -- I'm actually fairly serious. Porn should come with disclaimers and crap.
I'm against it. I think GNU/Open Source programs should be available anywhere (Everywhere:)).
Where I go, my tools go with me.
I invision a future where: ./configure
make
make install
and Dragging a.tar.gz on to the "Install from Source" icon on the desktop are equivalent.
Most gamers play First Person Shooters (FPS) with the mouse and keyboard combo (joysticks, flight sticks, joypads, etc on certain games only.).
My friend MUTATO plays Quake 3 Arena with a throttle and mouse though because of all the buttons and movement he can do with it.
Now, this company in Austraila manufactures something called the Claw. I've used it before and it was pretty cool... really easy to program, but only has has 9 buttons:( (Start adding them up for Q3A:RA3 and you'll see that is not a lot -- Left, Right, Forward, Back (4 total), Fire, Jump, Alt. Fire (7 total for basics), Rocket Launcher, Railgun, Plasma gun, Machine gun, Lightning gun, "Enemy Here!" binds, etc). Imagine 5 buttons on the mouse and also the left side of the keyboard.... SWEET!
This keyboard and mouse could solve the problem if done correctly... He better have patiented it:). I like it... gotta build my own prototype and keep it under wraps.
In the future could you please use real perl code in your posts? It would be a tremendous help for someone trying to learn perl only from code posted on Slashdot (such as myself). Thank you.

PS.. My first perl program!:)
#!/bin/perl
$str = "This is a test of PHP Madness!";
print "str = $str\n";
$str =~ s/PHP/Perl/g;
print "str = $str\n";
crack dot com, www.crack.com, was cracked and the Quake 1 source was stolen. I have it on Archive CD somewhere. It would be interesting to see the differences from the stolen and the released sources.
I went to work and placed my order from there:). For some reason my DSL refused to connect to 63.80.144.66. But everwhere else I try it works fine:(. It must not have been a DNS problem because it did resolve, but just never got a response. Did I got banned from lokigames.com for some ping flood I don't remember?;) Thanks for your help Michael and keep on hackin' on those Linux games!
I'm with you in principle:), but I also want to support Linux games, so I'll buy the Linux version. If you want to remain principled just pirate it like everybody else... I'm not advocating piracy. I'm just advocating standing by your principles:).
Dec 27th..... I can't wait that long! I want to support Linux games, but I want to play them now. Is anyone else considering purchasing the Windows version and then the Linux version? Or would that still not help the Linux cause because it will inflat the windows amount being bought? BTW Unreal Tournament rocks some serious nads... It will give Quake3Arena a run for it's money.
I've proposed nothing..... but thought of it:) Lastest rip.. 6.15 gig I rented Suicide Kings and didn't have time to watch it before I had to return it..... So I ripped it to my hard drive and watched it tonight. For all you lawyers out there... Yes It's since been deleted now.
I think just as CDs over a modem was a 2.5 day affair DVDs over DSL/T1s is a multiday affair as well. I was crazy enough to do it then... I'm crazy enough to do it now! Actually I am crazy enough, but don't see it as being worth it. Even if there was a site with DVDs to download I'd probably already own most of the good ones anyway and they are pretty cheap. A DVD-RAM Drive might solve all the storage problems, but for now I don't have a need for a DVD site:)
I'm with you in theory on that one AC, but when you have the software monkey(s) running around installing new software on every box without thought of any consquences (or even license argeements!) it's hard to maintain order let alone compatibility or stability. If only they would let me install NT on the boxes at work... I'd perfer Linux but I'll take NT over 95/98 anyday. Yes... I am a fascist sys admin:)
Microsoft Office 2000 Premium w/ Intellimouse. Office 2000 $359.95 Microsoft's Tech support for the Office 2000 Tech Support Priceless?:) If you are running 97 and someone saves in 2000 format you will have a lot of trouble! Office 97 has 2 patches available make sure they are both installed. The 2nd patch fixes problems with Office 2000 compatibility.
I figured they were pretty profitable... They got my money... Once -- Pentium 200 MMX woefully obsolete when purchased in March '98, currently playing Linux router for my two networks:). If they got my money I'm sure they got a lot of other peoples' money and then the average comsumer actually likes buying premade computers at retail stores (I'm currently running a Dual Celeron 400 put together in March '99:) ). I seriously thought Packard Bell would never die. Yes their customer support was crap. Yes their computers offered no upgradability at all and finally yes they sucked bad for almost anything, but I can think of a lot of other companies that suffer the same problems but avoid the fate of Packard Bell. Better marketing? Better FUD? Better diversification so when something goes horribly wrong (IE Consumers get a tad smarter!) you have something to fall back on? Whatever the case, it's a good day when giants like Packard Bell falldown, for whatever reason. It's high profile and it will keep the other PC makers on edge.
At least with PacBell DSL is extremely Linux friendly and highly supported. I saw this on freshmeat yesterday if it's of use to anyone. AOL IP Tunnel client for Unix 0.5 AOL now owns netscape, ICQ and Winamp... so far there hasn't been any "major" consequences. AIM coming with Netscape? Kind of a bummer, but easily avoidable.
Yeah... I went to a local cell phone store just to check out the Nokia Communicator 9000i. Very, Very impressive. 'vi' worked flawlessly as well as 'make menuconfig'. The 9600 Baud is really the limiting factor as to why I don't get one. 38.4 is supposed to be demo'ed at TeleCom '99 in October. Of course that's over in Europe and the US lags behind in the GSM markets:(. Also, what service provider does everyone use for GSM Data? Powertel seems to have the best plans (free roaming, free long distance, actual data plans!) and Pacbell is what I use, but data hardly even seems to exist with them. Don't even get me started on the crazy idea to drive to Alabama just to pick up a Nokia 9000i and a good data rate plan:). The free roaming and long distance makes it tempting....
In my experience Xing MP3 Encoder is one of the fastest encoders and sounds very good (a Linux port is available). I've found that the Fraunhafer encoder(sp?) in High Quality mode has the best audio quality. With the right encoder an MP3 is very hard to distinguish from a CD if the bit rate is 256 kb/sec. Hope that at least gets you started!
Only 12:35 on the west coast... Who doesn't check/. before going to bed:), but then again... The night is young... the DSL fast... 20 K/sec off the US Mirror. This will do nicely. -SyniK
I totally argee. The need to redo jokes from the first wasn't needed, but the orginal ones that are in AP2 are good enough on their own merit. I wasn't disappointed with it, but IMO it wasn't as good as the first. Austin Powers (the character) was just better in the first. I guess it's just because Austin Powers in his own environment is just like everyone else, but in the 90s he was a sight to behold.
