While XP was slower the Win98 it offered some improves stability by implementing the Hardware abstraction layer and a Firewall. Those two things made XP far superior to Win98.
Also game developers dropped Win98 compatibility so we couldn't play newer games. Until XP runs all the new games no one will be arsed to install Vista / Win7. Of course DX11 is Vista only, but since so many people are still on XP they can't cut us out... yet.
Valid points? Long story, try to read some articles if you are interested. He tries to give proofs why he thinks we are moving toward singularity. He might be right or wrong, but at least he gives some facts that we can discuss about it.
If something is not allowed by your Mobile provider connect via SSH or VPN to your home server. In case you don't have one, buy the service from TPB or any other trusted company. 5E per month is a cheap solution.
Only Joe six pack will be affected by those limitation. But once Joe sees what I can do with my Android he will want one too.
M$ has lost the train for the future a long time ago or they simply don't care any more.
You are right, but the evil is in the details. The true story is much longer and would take way too much time.
Of course having peaceful neighbours makes everything easier, but in our history we accepted war only as a last resort. We are a little proud country (2M population) in the middle of Europe speaking our own language.
When we decided to become independent only a couple of people died, showing how careful planing can save lives.
This is a normal netbook and we are very concerned about our OS speed and security. If the OS is fast enough for my netbook, it's fast enough to be on my main PC.
My gaming system is different and I'll choose the OS depending on how well it will run my games.
Win7 fails on speed on my netbook and so far I fail to see any gain on my gaming PC. So why should I replace my old Win XP? Security? If it is for security I will go on Linux.
Yap, for current generation of netbooks WinXP is still the performance and battery life king.
I have a dual boot with Ubuntu (all of them, since I can't wait to move away from M$), but there is still work to do.
I don't understand why Firefox is slower under Ubuntu, while using Wine it's on par with XP. Still under wine Firefox doesn't feel the same.
I fully agree with you.
What happened in our country was a collective realization on how bad war is.
I'm a little older and I was part of the mandatory 8 month military draft. But should our country send us in a foreign territory probably a very high number of people would desert the army.
We said no to any aggression to a foreign country.
It was the same in our country (Slovenia), until too many people realized how stupid war is. Eventually too many treated the army as a joke forcing the state to employ soldiers as professional.
Now we have very few soldiers, but they are all motivated professionals. Luring teenagers into the army is a dirty trick that eventually will backfire.
P.S: We do not have a military court, all soldiers mistakes are judged by the civil court.
I use Skype for SMS. Usually the price is 0.08E per 160 char message.
+ full sized keyborad
- You need a PC / laptop / netbook
- WiFI connection.
Still fully useful at office / home.
And I bet you could find even cheaper offers.
Exactly any mistake and the contract can get repealed.
Consider how big companies are bulling users, I wouldn't be surprised if most of the EULA would get repealed if a proper court would analyze them.
Still not an easy task to archive.
EULA != law

You own me a beer.
When you were a kid probably somebody told you to stay away from them, add the fact that they are ugly as hell and voila a new phobia is learned.
Arachnophobia is a learned phobia, there is no reason to fear them from a natural point of view.
Yes some might bite you, but there are far greater dangers out there.
Hey, I didn't start it. I was just pointing out why XP was better even if it was a little bit slower then Win98 on older hardware.
Don't think so, but at least they can safely use the net now.
Yarrr!!!
You are a Commie and a Pirate!! /sarcasm off

Then put a remark near Win7. Designed for Joe, technical competent people should still use XP.
There, now we can stop to argue.
We have to dream, it's human nature.

Flying cars are reality, they just aren't the cool stuff they used to be.

I agree, still it makes much more sense than any church bullshit.
Besides the whole singularity thing has a very valid point.
That's one small step for a robot, a giant leap for mankind.
On serious side, I don't see this big deal. There are robots out there who impress me much more. Still it's nice to see stuff like that.
Of course it works, but if Vodafone sees you are using VOIP it will charge you 44E instead of 12E.
Still you can use VPN and Vodafone won't be able to see what you are doing.
No worries, Android opened the Pandora box.

Because you can charge for SMS, while emails needs full Internet access. And they don't want to give us cheap Internet access.
You can already do the same now.
Stay in front of the vote office and pay 5E for anyone willing to vote for who you want.
You can make sure they voted for the right person by making a video call and show what you have selected using the camera on the phone.
