  1. Make your own damn rules! on Scrabble Needs a New Scoring System · · Score: 1

If the players agree, any arbitrary point value can be applied to the letters. There are already several unofficial variant rule sets out there, so, you know, just do it if you want, and don't if you don't like it. Now I am off the cwm to play a tune on my crwth.

  2. preserving POLAROID media on Can Fotobar Make Polaroid Relevant Again? · · Score: 1

I hope that the images they are hoping to print are going to last longer than the hundreds of pics I took with the then Super-High-Tech SX-70. The images are barely visible now, and they were stored under proper conditions. Polaroid had a good run at it, but they have run out of ideas.

  3. this is unbelievably stupid on Can Fotobar Make Polaroid Relevant Again? · · Score: 1

These companies are apparently just old, like Kodak, still hanging on to film way past the point it was obvious film was dying. As many have said here today, screens are good and ubiquitous, tabs are going to be $50. No need to print images anymore Polaroid. It sucks anyway, we use too much paper already. Can I print out my emails there too?

  4. What is an Ultrabook anyway? on Why Ultrabooks Are Falling Well Short of Intel's Targets · · Score: 1

Ever since the first "portable" computer that weighed something like 17lbs, laptops keep getting thinner, lighter and more powerful. An ultrabook is just a thinner lighter laptop. Maybe people see through the marketing bullshit. Ultrabooks are not some "class" of computers, they are just laptops, thin light ones. Which is wonderful, but it ain't ultraful.

  6. Why buy Nokia anyway? on Nokia Claims a Memory Card Slot Would Have "Defiled" New Phone · · Score: 2

I started with Nokia, a 5190 in 98. It was a great phone in it's day. Then I bought a Nokia 500. Big mistake. When I wake it up random apps start, well, randomly. It crashes, it hangs, it's slow, very slow, the OS is virtually incomprehensible. It's the worst phone I have ever owned. I hate its guts, I hate it so much, that I will never buy another Nokia phone, with an SD slot, without an SD slot - I don't care. What garbage. I do have a micro SD slot inside though. It's the only part of the phone that works properly.

Paranoid? The USA does that all the time. Ask Maher Arar. I doubt they will execute him. Now go ask Manuel Noriega how the system works. He is still in jail and his sentence is over. Assange has been targeted for destruction. I suppose you think that 60 Minutes is a 'news' program too?

Just living in a country does not make you an authority on the legal system and certainly not in the facts of any particular case. Sorry. I would like to see a link to the case you cited about the man who was "equitted". It seems unlikely. Sweden has the highest rate of sexual offences in the EU. Why is that?

  11. Pneumatic tubes for mail, Paris, Germany, Italy... on NYC's Trash-Sucking Tubes May Be Upgraded, Expanded · · Score: 2

Paris was famous for its system of pneumatic tubes used for mail delivery. The system was automated, with colour coded bands used for routing, some systems used electromagnet propulsion. If this garbage system works half so well,it will be great. I don't see anything about recycling or composting though. That's bad. There is a great article on it here: http://www.cix.co.uk/~mhayhurst/jdhayhurst/pneumatic/book1.html

It does, they do, that only makes sense. There are many references to that "feature" online. The Iranians said that the self destruct mechanism was never activated because the controllers were not aware the drone was jacked. The fact that the self destruct was not activated lends credence to the Iranian version.

I just love Americans. Every enemy is weak, every war is easy and over by Christmas. The Japanese are rice eaters and weak and they can't see in the dark, the VC are skinny little guys in pajamas, no problem. We can defend against their puny weapons! Maybe. Or maybe you could work on alternative energy and stop killing people for their oil.
