I know several cops in LA. One I've met said he 'gets a hard on' when it's time to go to work. He stated that he looks forward to 'kicking the shit out of N******'. He was actually talking to someone else, but I was right there. I've seen cops lie about the most inconsequential things like speeding. Had one pull me over, handcuff me, throw me against the wall; when I got mad he said, 'You one of them Libertarians or something?'

I live by the rule, everyone is assumed to be a good person until they prove this to be untrue. I've met hundreds of cops and have never met one who didn't prove they were an asshole within 60 seconds.

We need to accept that there is something wrong with people who want to be cops.

I caught an interview with this kid on Kroq this morning. Apparantly they rescinded the suspension. Patrick said they claimed to be doing it so it would not end up on his 'Permanent Record'. He responded that he would rather have fought the suspension in court. The school officials didn't like this prospect, and it is Patrick's belief that the reason they rescinded the suspension was because they didn't want to lose in court.

While I agree with your statements, I believe you've drawn the wrong conclusion. If I may summarize the real power is with the people, the majority of individuals who don't have positions of power, simply because they are the Majority.

I doubt any covert group of individuals planned to foster a country of apathetic voters, yet they do know this to be true and take advantage of it. They cozy up to the polititions, regardless of political party, and get the exposure needed for those who will support the status quo.
Ultimately what I believe we are coming to, is a place in time where we have to choose the rights of individuals over those of the artificial entity known as a Corporation. My vote is going to Ralph Nader

    So fight the good fight

  16. One vote for college on Techies Saying No To College · · Score: 1

Couple of points I'd like to add to the discussion. College is really just a creative environment. We toss some brilliant people into a pot together, who have a variety of knowledge, skills, and backgrounds, and stir occasionally.
Some have said, "If one can teach themselves technology, one can do the same with History, English, Philosophy..." This is not true. Hard science can be learned from a book. The humanities rely much more on discourse. Ultimately, they teach a person how to think things through and resolve issues that don't have a single answer, which is more important than any single discipline.
A job is not a person, and vice-versa.
On a side note: I would appreciate if people would teach themselves the difference between there, their, and they're. And just cause the spell-checker says loose is spelled correctly, doesn't mean you should use it instead of lose.

Just to clear things up for the youngsters who still think absolutely everything was actually invented in the last 10 years. Prince--who goes by the moniker, The Artist, now--has been using this silly convention with the 2's and the b's since well before his first album over 20 years ago; before some of you were even born. It has nothing to do with 'puters dood.

That doesn't make it any less silly. I just wanted to make a clarification.

Oh. and if you're old enough to remember his first album... fascinating.

  18. A guessing game on Online Rights And Real World Censorship? · · Score: 1
What you're really trying to do here is guess which words will appear on an objectionable site. A porn site will likely have the words 'fuck' and 'tits' and they may have the word breast; but the site on breast cancer won't have the words 'fuck' and 'tits'.

Don't block the word 'breast', but block 'fuck'. You'll will block the Pron, and leave the medical site.

I know this is an over simplification, but this is a discussion forum, not a soapbox for long-winded theories. I hope the gist of this comes through. It's only through an overzealous and blatently hopeless attempt to eliminate every possible objectionable site that the concept of 'protecting the children' becomes a ludicrous infringement of constitutional rights.

You are telling me Doctors, who have struggled through a grueling education, who work hours upon hours dont work hard? Single uneducated parents that work 60 hours a week at some shitty job just to give their kids a chance?
