Let them think they can patent this stuff. When they are done, then tell them the bad news. A few lawsuits later, and they realize the futility. If that doesn't work, then it will be time for some public outrage. The whole notion is ludicrous. 2

  2. Re:liberal on Ask Slashdot: Geeks Stereotypes and Their Origins · · Score: 1

A group of individuals without accountability is a mob. The purpose of a corporation is to encourage/allow greater risk, and thereby glean greater rewards. It does this by removing the risk to the individual, making it to purely financial, and in the case of a public corporation, spreading the risk out among many. People tend to be less ethical when they know they can't be blamed. That's the crux. tea out

I agree people should be [able] to do what[ever]it is that they want...except for those that refer to themselves in the third person. That's annoying. The problem with libertarians is they have this bizzarre notion that a corporation is an individual; other than that, we get along fine.

One more thing I'd like to add to this. All people rise to their own level of incompetence. i.e. a person will continue to be promoted until they get into a position they can't handle.
On another track; pretty people will ALWAYS be the most popular. Ugly people want them; fat people want them, stupid people want them; and geeks want them. Not to mention other pretty people. If this makes no sense, it's because I didn't read the article. My kneejerk opinion is based on the title and is entirly my own.

First off, the quote is not stupid. Second, ALL liberties are essential. I well remember when many things we accept today would have been viewed with terror, and argued as bad for the precedent alone. "The Slippery Slope" was a well understood concept. It certainly wasn't necessary to define all words longer than two syllables to state something as well understood as this simple and founding concept...unless your point is simply to baffle with bullshit. btw, I'm not that old.

  7. Sorry. That's just wrong on Forged e-mails from Linus · · Score: 1

You're confusing yourself with a bad analogy. The simple facts are: the plural of letter is letters; the plural of mail is mail, not mails. 'The mail must get through' is the same as 'the messages or letters must get through.' Your argument regarding service vs. piece of mail is shown bogus by referring to "pieces of e-mail." If the word were not already plural, you would not need to clarify your meaning this way.

I remember, must've been 10 or 15 years back, they had a flying car on the cover of popular science. The guy hadn't actually built one, but he had the same claim; that a million or so in research funds would result in a mass produced air car for about $100,000. One can see Dilbert getting fired up to ask for a raise, then ending up blowing the boss as a pure Dilbertism carried to the nth degree.
