Where is the profit? Even if you can do it for a reasonable cost, how do you make money?
people pay to go, same as suborbital flights, Musk has said he has done the figures and he wants to get the costs down to $500k per person, which implies that it will be in the millions for the first few trips, and implies he is going to make money out of it.
His companies are making money, so I don't think you can doubt he has planned it out to make money.
actually not 100% true, the costs of those trips were massive, and if inflation was taken into account as well as the number of people in the world, I imagine the costs would be much closer.
sadly that is not the way it works, people don't want to be addicted, and yet they walk straight into it and billions have been spent trying to alleviate poverty in Africa to no avail. I'm not saying we should not continue to try, but it should also not stop us doing worthy things as well.
The are doing some of the growing enough food, although you are right it is not in a truly closed system. Note that none of the plans I’ve seen have that all of the food would be grown.

I think that roads are ways for people to get places, in the cities where cars have been limited or banned all together, the city centres have prospered, contrary to the naysayers.
Just because you can afford a car does not mean you have to buy one! even if you have one you don't have to always use it. Think of the parking issues in major cities eg New York, or Beijing for example has 1/3 the number of car parks for its estimated 5 million registered cars on its roads as of 2011.
I doubt it, car sales are dropping, all over the developed world. More and more people are walking, riding bikes and talking public transport.
In all the cities I have lived(Launceston, Brisbane, Melbourne and Shanghai) in bicycle use and infrastructure has increased while I was living there.
Also there will be big changes when the self driving cars start going commercial, some of the above problems may be solved. Studies have proved that traffic jams are often caused by the inconsistent braking and acceleration of drivers. With self driving cars, they maintain a constant speed, and optimally brake and accelerate, thereby reducing congestion. Plus other interesting ideas could occur, such as sending your car home after dropping you off, or sharing cars, so that they are almost like taxi's, that arrive on time. All that parking space can be re-allocated to bike paths or more car lanes.
see car sales drop.

The Chinese stuff isn't an exact copy is a modernized version, a lot of work has gone into it. They didn't buy the rocket they built it them selves, thats something I'd say.
I strongly disagree, we have 7 computers among 4 people, 2 linux servers, 2 mac laptops, 3 linux laptops. not a single windows box in sight. at work i work exclusively on linux on my laptop and on our servers. I have absolutely nothing I need windows for.
Don't give up, learn to express yourself better and find a group that suits you, I too gave up for quite a few years and have only recently re-found the fun of d&d with the right group!
why not sow a pocket into your pillow, then someone can't nick it while you are sleeping!!
