The last time I was out of the office for 4 weeks, it was a disaster. It completely cured me of pining for 60 days off at once. I would be useless at that point. I can't imagine Europeans get much done. As it turns out, many of them (Germans) don't.
This has to be terribly disruptive.
I will acknowledge that business has to continue despite the fact that I am dying. The world does not revolve around me. It can't just stop because I'm indisposed. I would not fault my employer for trying to pick up the pieces at the office while they're trying to put me back together again.
This is just the usual retarded nonsense that you communists come up with any time anyone suggests any measure of self reliance.
Those of us that choose not to be man children at least have some hope of achieving any of those things that you clearly think are so impossible. Not all of us are dependent ninnies.
I like interesting people, not helpless SJWs. So farmers and blacksmiths are actually among my friends and family.
We don't need to negotiate anything because we are self-reliant. We don't need to be a burden on others. We plan for our own future including the possibility of things going poorly. We both know enough about corporate America to expect trouble sooner or later.
We don't feel the need to make others pay for our personal choices or even an unexpected calamity.
It's paid time off just like any other. Doesn't matter if they are going on a world tour or having a bone marrow transplant. They are getting something handed to them because of someone's idea of what sounds "good".
I'm really fascinated by 3rd wave feminists that are all over this idea that women should be paid to breed, as if that's all that women are about in the 21st century.
Forget about the other marks of distinction like running for president, almost dominating the SCOTUS, or running high profile corporations.
All companies treat you like shit. At least in a game company you get to work with smart people versus a bunch of rocks. In the really large companies, they will try to treat you as a disposable cog and aspire to give your job away to a trained monkey. Plus you will have more political nonsense to deal with.
The "reactionary" brings up an important point. People these days seem to like to fawn all over this idea but they don't seem to realize that it's a commitment that doesn't end suddenly once those 20 weeks is up.
It's almost as if they've never actually done it themselves. They're the typical bleeding hearts trying to rescue other people whether they want to be rescued or not.
Although the main reasons to turn your back on this sort of stuff is that it is UNECESSARY and also has consequences that go a bit beyond "but science". That's the problem with the "but science" crowd. They're trying to drown out the nuance of the situation and engaging in the usual scientific vanity.
Vanity genetics is probably another area that will run afoul of the patent laws.
Beyond that, the Frankenstein stuff should not be let out into the wild where it can run amok on it's own.
That's toying around with a production system for which you have no backup.
Then why all of the whining about "wage gaps"? If women are majoring in genuinely useful things, then there should be no "wage gap". If there is such a thing, perhaps it points to some attempt by SJWs to over value certain professions despite clear market forces that indicate otherwise.
I have traveled plenty and I would agree with him. Although I have done a little more than just see the tourist traps. I have also stayed with people. I've seen how they actually live and hear various things that don't get into the media. They don't fit the media narrative.
I can't see most Americans taking to the European lifestyle (or Canadian). Germany in particular takes regulation to an entirely new level. Most American pet owners would last all of 5 minutes in Germany.
You've simply bought into a carefully crafted narrative.
Israel is a nation full of ambitious geeks. It's quite unlike any other nation it's size. Places like New Zealand, Canada, or Norway just don't have the resources or drive to contribute like Israel does.
I would also add Japan to the short list. Despite their highly compliant nature they also have a creative culture that puts them way ahead of a conservative country like Germany. Orthopedics are in the dark ages in Germany.
Southern Europe is out. They're all basket cases.
Americans that think they would be happier in Canada should leave. There's no need to destroy the world's greatest R&D engine just because you want a free handout.
Actually, he was asked if people should be punished for doing an illegal thing. After that the media just ran with it. It was a well executed journalistic sucker punch.
It doesn't show that Trump is evil, just that he can't handle the media as if he were a politician.
Trump's real crime is that he's no good at handling hostile reporters trying to harvest a juicy sound bite.
The biggest threat of a Trump presidency is having agreement the same party in both the Congress and White House. In this regard, Trump isn't any scarier than any other Republican. Kaisich would be just as dangerous despite the fact that he's good at making himself look harmless. Even the impact of Bernie Breshnev would be blunted by a Congress that is hostile to him.
A good chunk of the Slashdot peanut gallery knows better that to be led around by the nose by the mass market news media.
Why would the restaurant industry care about an increase in the minimum wage? Aren't they pretty much exempt from the minimum wage to begin with?
Now due to entirely different reasons, I won't even touch restaurant food that's being handled by low pay employees. I don't trust someone that's being abused like that to handle my food safely. Fast food is definitely out and probably anything else too. I just can't take the chance.
My Windows using compadres had already abandoned Skype because of the crap that Microsoft was doing to the Windows version. They've already been trash talking Skype for quite a while now...
Nope. Windows is crap. Always has been, always will. It's the monopoly product built on the idea of controlling the market rather than having a good product.
People put up with Win/DOS because they think they have to, because they think they can't escape from the monopoly.
Apple is about building a good product. I might not like their definition of "good" but I can appreciate that they are more than just bean counters.
As soon as you try to turn a simple consumer choice into "ideology", then you've just demonstrated how sick and twisted and broken the market is. You shouldn't have to be a zealot to turn away from Cambells, or McDonalds, or Ford.
Cygwin is inferior to the real thing. It's nice to have when there isn't another option but you really are better off with a proper Unix that's not running as a "fish out of water".
Despite appearances, NT is a modular system and there's no reason that the NT kernel can't run a Linux personality or even a MacOS one. They don't really have to go through Canonical to do it either. It's likely a "branding" thing.
Armies all over the world have benefited from the fact that citizens have been armed and trained before entering military service. Some of the most epic badasses of the last century fell into this category. Many lesser baddasses gave their nation an advantage on the battlefield for the same reason.
2 weeks on the range in boot camp versus years of practice and practical experience in civilian life.
ppphhhffft!

> You are quite an unpleasant person all around. Its good you have the self-awareness to not have kids.
I agree with him completely and I do have kids. It's not my job or his to pay for your life choices, it's YOURS.
That's what it means to be an ADULT.

...except that does nothing of the kind. This is just stupid propaganda perpetrated by people that think America should be turned into Europe.
Europe makes everything harder on everyone, including having a kid.
It's paid time off just like any other. Doesn't matter if they are going on a world tour or having a bone marrow transplant. They are getting something handed to them because of someone's idea of what sounds "good".

Those kinds of people come from families that don't need an economic incentive.
This isn't Europe.

That doesn't seem to be a problem in America. It only seems to be a problem in "socialist utopias", especially the Scandanavian ones.
They're like how giant pandas used to be.
It also nicely demonstrates that transgenics that deprive me of my rights as a farmer are entirely unnecessary.
Transgenics are like losing your house because Cheney's dog got loose and decided to take a dump in your yard.
...in a very limited form.

NZ? It's fine as long as you don't get sick. Then it's pants.

Higher temperatures than Buffalo don't count.

No, the argument is basically that the poor make bad choices and the world should be re-arranged to accommodate those poor choices.
This is perhaps the dumbest possible approach they could take to arguing against monopoly abuse.
Armies all over the world have benefited from the fact that citizens have been armed and trained before entering military service. Some of the most epic badasses of the last century fell into this category. Many lesser baddasses gave their nation an advantage on the battlefield for the same reason.
