Or if you're driving your own car, a camera on the front of the officer's car could OCR the license plate and get the registered owner's family and their licenses all pulled up automatically. It's not like aluminum plates are cheap anyway - put a long-range RFID sticker on it when it's issued.
If only the updated proof of insurance covered the weeks leading up to the new 6-month term instead of needing to keep 2 in the car or wallet or timing the swap out with precision.
I've seen and used technology long enough to know that today's really shiny new toy is tomorrow's discarded detritus which didn't really improve my life any. Which means I've got the perspective to go straight to "I fail to see how this actually benefits me".
The lossy compression really doesn't lose a lot acoustically. Some harmonics and some complex high-frequency sounds (like cymbals) are affected, but this is highly dependent on bitrate and codec. At 192Kbps, AAC doesn't lose much at all.
The biggest issue is the overuse of range compression effects on the original master recording to make the sound more punchy. Listen to a Beatles recording vs. anything recent. Look at the waveform of any popular music and you'll see an almost solid block with no variation. It's meant to sound loud, not sound good. Partly so that all parts of the song survive in a noisy environment like your car, and partly to accommodate junk speakers.
When I was a kid, I thought there must be some special lure to get you to go to one of Disney's attraction. I'm talking about Janet Jackson's Epcot Bait.
And that's not even mentioning the fact that some uses of Photoshop will never need new features. Photoshop CS2 runs on Windows 7 and it's very old. I haven't used it on 8 or 8.1 but I am fairly certain it works there, too.
It's only a value if you convince yourself you need the new features each cycle. As soon as I heard that CC was the only edition they would continue to offer, I bought CS 5.5 and I am done with them. I don't care if I have to run a VM for the rest of my life, I won't support that. I still have a copy of CS2 running on another computer (now activation-free thanks to their patch).
It's very rare that I need to do something that CS2 can't do, but the main reason for updating to CS5.5 was to get a fully Intel-native Mac version.
Ha ha. We all know what happened to New Coke. Maybe they'll make clear Windows and call it Crystal Windows. It's about time they live up to the "Windows" name.
You have an anxiety disorder. That's really the only way to classify those symptoms. The good news is that there's a lot you can do to treat yourself. First, you have to make a conscious decision to tell yourself how unimportant these things are that you feel like you can't be without.
- Cut back on caffeine/alcohol for a bit and prioritize sleep. - Take a connection-free weekend - set an updated voicemail greeting and turn the phone and computer off. Allow yourself to change tasks as much as you like, as long as you stay off the phone/computer. - When you feel withdrawal symptoms, go get some kind of exercise. This will take the place of the dopamine hit you get from checking up on things on your phone. - Meditation is not for everyone (or me). But learning how to accept time without distractions and stimulation is important in whatever way is best for you.
The need for constant stimulation is really just a need for a distraction from the underlying issue. Boredom is being faced with your own thoughts, fears, and worries. Are long books boring or are they just not a distraction?
Read up on drug-addiction based anxiety, since there are a lot of commonalities.
You wouldn't even have to use their wifi service. Being in range of the hotspot's MAC address is sufficient. Although I know iOS has locked this down and it's unavailable, I'm pretty sure you can do this on Android. At 6 bytes per MAC, you could store the hotspots for every Starbucks in the US in the app with only 70KB. Or of course you could do a network lookup of the nearby access points with the correct name, but why not avoid latency and only use that as a fallback.
But that only benefits the power companies. It's actually a lesser credit on your final bill. So aiming them for peak power only matters for generating facilities, not residential.
I understand the distinction, and it just isn't my point to be pedantic on phrasing. The point is that Microsoft was still not capable of writing their own Networking stack even after Windows 95.
A 2D barcode is certainly easier. I don't know about you, but my phone doesn't have a holographic projection screen.

Woo! +1

cheap earbuds
This was the OP's point. And just because the iPad has a DAC, that doesn't mean perfect fidelity in today's terms.
Kind of fits - looked up the lyrics and two lines before is "You're one of those guys who likes to shine his machine"
"In the American way." You mean not killing the French pronunciation like the Brits do. Garage, filet, foyer, valet...

You're confusing authentication with identify verification.
Especially since Office 2003 can still be made to run on Windows 7/8. That's a much better deal. And no ribbon if you hate that.

But can you really do any thorough testing if you're not running it as a primary OS?

down the road he replaces the computer, and sets up automatic recurring payments
And now has two subscriptions, because he doesn't keep track of his finances very well.

Maybe it's just the heaviest part. The expensive thing is lightweight propulsion - made easier the lighter the unit is.
Right now, our model of time is an arrow. Check back when our model is closer to a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff.

Or to have it automatically choose the location for you rather than doing a zip code search.

Because a monoculture of code is a vulnerability - especially on something as low-level as networking.
