  4. Am I all alone? on Free (As In Speech) Beer, V2.0 · · Score: 2, Interesting

I worked at a liquor store as an easy 2nd job a few years ago. They sold craft beers and I tried just about every one and really enjoyed a lot of them. Still do enjoy them, but I can also drink cheap beer and still enjoy it.

Is there anyone else that likes craft beer, but still likes some domestic big brewery beer? I can't be the only one that is happy with an Aventinus, but would also be happy with a High Life. Markedly less happy, but still happy.

I can't stop drinking Oberon the last few weeks, but I went to a Derby party the other day and didn't mind at all that they only had Bud and Miller. (I should state that I don't actually like Budweiser...although I don't hate it, because there isn't enough flavor there to rise to that level...now dogfishhead 120 minute...I HATE that shit)

And from my experience at the liquor store I would also like to say to everyone that drinks craft beer or brews their own "GET OVER YOURSELVES". This may not apply to you, so disregard if it doesn't, but everyone at the store hated just about every one of the regulars that would get craft beer. They were pretty much insufferable arrogant asses to a man. Just because you don't drink light lager doesn't mean that you are a genius, and just because someone drinks Budweiser it doesn't mean they are an idiot, most people just don't care that much about it. It comes down to "this one is 9 dollars for six?, I can get 12 budweisers for that"

Maybe it was just the location, it could be that there aren't just that many craft beer drinkers around here so they developed an Us against Them attitude. There is a bar around here that has an amazing beer list, but the people that own it/hang out there are such assholes that I just don't go there. The owner has literally thrown people out for ordering a Budweiser. There is a server there who is openly rude to people that come in and have no idea what they want because they never drink that kind of beer.

    Just my 2 cents.

First off, you shouldn't have posted this as AC. Aside from that, I totally agree with you.

I am also not an apologist, and you can flame me to ashes for saying this, but I haven't had very many problems at all with Vista (outside of them releasing updates that make the cracks stop working).

The biggest issue with it for normal end users, not /.ers, is that they lied about the sys reqs. My roomate has a laptop that has no business running it, and it really really sucks.

    A few disclaimers:

1 - I am a gamer, had a system that was well beyond the req's that they should have used in the first place, and it runs fine.

2 - I never pay for anything except online games(flame me for that too if you want), so the DRM stuff doesn't matter to me.

3- I totally agree that you would be out of your mind to install it in a business environment in it's current state, and with the current cost of the machines you would need to run it.

4- The fact that they are planning on discontinuing XP is preposterous. When you release a new version of anything users should want to upgrade, not be forced to.

Absolutely no interest in a "but M$ is evil" or a "but you don't realize that it does xyz" argument, just giving my experience with Vista.

  7. Actually... on It's Not a Flying Car - It's a Drivable Airplane · · Score: 5, Interesting

As long as the weather isn't bad doing those things while flying would be easier than doing it in a car. Once you are in the air modern aircraft pretty much fly themselves.

I'm not a pilot but I had a job as a lineman at small county airport while in college. I used to fly all over the place with the pilots that worked for the company, either for fun or (no shit) so they could have someone to talk to and not fall asleep. (we did overflow for UPS, all the flights were in the middle of the night)

You take off, get clearance to fly a direct route to where you are going, enter in to the gps the code for airport you just left and which one you are going to, and wait until you get there.

Amusing story, The first time I ever flew in a plane was after I started working there. One of the pilots had just landed from a long flight, something came up and he had to immediately go on another flight. He knew I had never flown so he asked me if I wanted to go with him. We take off, he sets the gps up then leans back in the seat and says "wake me up if I fall asleep". Slightly disconcerting for your first time in the air.

2 million lost records is a lot, so just about any company would be compelled to own up to it...and they really aren't at risk here since they didn't knowingly or recklessly (geek level arguments about data transport aside) release the data.

Since they didn't technically violate any HIPPA laws, I don't think that they are required to report it to anyone. You can check for yourself http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/hipaa/

I can also tell you that by their own admission, HIPPA enforcement is complaint driven, they don't do anything until someone informs them of a violation.
