You clearly didn't see the bonus material about animating the water on the whale's tongue in Finding Nemo. Water is NOT very easy, because sometimes it acts like particles, and sometimes it acts like sheets. The problem is convincingly switching between them. You couldn't do the whole movie as individual water particles, because that would simply be compunationally impossible, regardless of what we know about fluid dynamics.
I think you're confusing the whole "they called it before it was in" froo-fraw with the whole "florida turned into a legal battle for electoral votes" froo-fraw. You're right, the latter would be a big circus, much for the media to love. But the former is what was being referred to, and more egg on their faces wouldn't be a good thing. Especially if they call it in favor of the liberal AGAIN and are wrong AGAIN.
a side note that I didn't really intend to justify my first comment.
I wasn't drawing a link either. However, if you find it reasonable to quote prisonplanet on other items, it makes me wonder about your credibility generally.
Honestly, I don't know whether I believe the tape is authentic or not. Insufficient data, EITHER WAY. I certainly don't think it's likely to be a Bush publicity stunt, given it's possibility to completely backfire in his face. (the whole underscoring that he HASN'T found Bin Laden yet). And given that the message of the tape is "it doesn't matter who you elect" and the whole "if we hate freedom why didn't we attack Sweden" angle.... I would argue that Bush/Rove aren't clever enough (or more accurately, don't think the people are clever enough to make it worth the risk) to take stances that undermine their basic messages about "they hate us for our freedom" and "Kerry is the terrorist's choice".
"Because Gmail offers a gigabyte of storage, several times bigger than most other web based mail services, users hardly delete any old correspondence", says Goldshlagger. "The result is a huge amount of mail accumulating in the users' boxes, which frequently include bank notices, passwords, private documents and other files the user wanted to backup. Who ever takes a hold of this data, could literally take over the victim's life and identity".
If you've got ALL THAT INFORMATION already migrated to a BETA service that's been around for... a handful of months, you're pretty foolish. As far as it goes, I specifically DON'T have anything particularly importang going to my gmail account for exactly this reason--it's unproven as of yet. In fact, I had a two week outage, totally unable to use my gmail box, for uknown reasons. After working with the GMail team, it got fixed, but they never told me the actual cause. Yet another reason not to trust BETA software/services with really crucial information.
And before all the 'bots claim I'm bashing google, quite the contrary. I love GMail. But it's like any other BETA product right now--still working out the kinks.
Sorry, but what she wrote, coming from a psycho, could easily be indicative that there was a plan being created. The girl wasn't suspended from school, she wasn't put in jail or any of the other ridiculous things that have actually happened to people when the feds get overzealous. There was reason enough to have a 10 minute chat with her, which is what they did, and no more.
Change your settings and read the story I posted in response to the A/C who ridiculed me. It will clear things up for you I think. The point is, a lot of self-described "liberals" are quite bigoted. And if you called them "left-leaning authoritarians" to their faces, they'd try to revoke your own liberal label from you.
And it's not like she was roughed up, spent any time in jail, or was otherwise intimidated. She made a threat that, if she were a psycho, could have been an indication of actions to come. They spent 10 minutes ascertaining that she's not a psycho, and that should be the end of it.
If, as others have speculated, she ends up on a "no fly" list, then there's more to discuss. But that is PURE SPECULATION at this point.
The Sierra Club is OSTENSIBLY about environmental conservation. I know a rather (but not extremely) conservative Republican who joined the local chapter, because he supports environmental conservation. After a year of listening to people rant about Republicans (things like laughing about a member's bumper sticker "the Road to Hell is Paved with Republicans", badmouthing Republican representatives in the state legislature despite them having better records voting for the issues they cared about than many Democrats, etc) he quit in disgust.
bigotry
The attitude, state of mind, or behavior characteristic of a bigot; intolerance.
Tell me how assuming that Republicans are all evil anti-environmentalists and making jokes or ranting about it is not bigoted by that well accepted definition? Had he "come out" at a Republican, he would have been shunned--and this was not simply his assumption, he watched it happen to another person in the group.
Liberal groups have just as much bigotry, intolerance, and groupthink as conservative ones, by and large.
A liberal is considered tolerant of alternative views and free from bigotry
Mention that you're a Republican at the meeting of some traditionally painted "liberal" group like, say, The Sierra Club, and see how "free from bigotry" they really are. (here's a hint: not very free from it at all).
You'll also note that they were among the four who had the highest non vote percentages, which is why they ended up clustered toward the majority. This is a side effect of running for president, not due to actual choices they would have otherwise made. Which means, they don't (necessarily) agree more with the Republicans at all; I think you'd want to look at a non-election season like 2001 or 2002, or else a longer stretch of the data to make that kind of determination.
I was commenting on the idiot, WAY UP THERE AT THE TOP, who said that his reason was that he couldn't play the game forever if the servers went away. Anyone trying to drag other arguments in along the way aren't even disagreeing with me, they're disagreeing with things that I'd actually agree with them on, if I cared that much about a computer game.
You're doing the same thing. You want to say "I hate this control issue", I won't disagree with you--it's a legitimate beef whether I agree with it or not. You say "But, but I can't play it FOREVER!" and you're being stupid.
We still play M.A.X. multiplayer, so I don't see how that is a straw man
THAT is not a straw man. However, it is also IRRELEVANT, given that I didn't mention anything about multiplayer.
The straw man was accusing me of having said ANYTHING about whether FPS was better than turn based strategy, as if I were calling you a fucking idiot by saying that people complaining that they can't play single player games in perpetuity because a server might go away are stupid. Um, hello? Your strategy game is NOT RELEVANT IN THIS DISCUSSION. IT ISN'T BUILT ON STEAM IS IT?
Kerry is more popular because the rest of the world is even stupider than the average American voter.
Terrorists don't hate us for our "freedom", they hate us for our "attitude problems". If I treated the people around me with this same attitude, I would have zero friends toot sweet. But hey, this is slashdot, you probably wouldn't know anything about those mythical "friends" things.
Why do you see wanting to use something you purchase for as long as you want as stupid?
It's not just random "something", it's A COMPUTER GAME. Computer games are, by their nature, ephemeral. Particularly, if you're bitching that you can't play the single player version without access to the Valve Steam servers, what are you thinking? Are you really going to play the single player game over and over and over again for the next decade, savoring just one more FRAG against the same Boss you learned to dominate two years ago?
You'll note, additionally, that I didn't say anyone was stupid for not wanting to have to connect to the servers ON PRINCIPLE (that whole what data are they transferring, etc thing, I can sympathize with). It's just that the PARTICULAR example of "I can't play it forever because their server might go away" is stupid. Feel free to not buy the game, but don't justify with lame excuses about not being able to play it forever.
As for your turn based straw man, get a life. I like turn based games too. Go check out Wesnoth or something and shut up.
No, I'm saying that claiming that your whole issue with this design is that you can't guarantee you'll be able to run the game in perpetuity is stupid.
I can't run that copy of Peter Gabriel's XPLORA on any modern OS either, because it was hard coded to look for some long-dead version of Quicktime. What's your point?
The point is that the literary writers dismissed Tolkien in exactly the same manner they dismissed most of the popular genre writers.
Only because they perceived him (rightly in my opinion) to have jumped across the divide to the other side of the bifurcation. He betrayed them. The fact that it wasn't his intent to do so was irrelevant to them.
As for Stephenson being a juvenile writer....that smacks more of flamebait than anything so I'm just going to leave it alone except to say that you're entitled your incorrect opinion:-)
No more so than the assholes who offer to match prices but then refuse to do so.
And not even RIGHT NOW. Idiot. If the campaign cycle were truly open source, Dean would have been the candidate.

They called it for Gore and got it wrong too.

No. We don't. We have a representative Federal Republic. As designed.
I wasn't drawing a link either. However, if you find it reasonable to quote prisonplanet on other items, it makes me wonder about your credibility generally.

You doubt the authenticity of the tape and then turn around and use Prison Planet to justify a conspiracy theory? Pshaw.

As opposed to vacationing in Crawford? I think the shrub spent more time in this sort of activity than the Kerry-bot.
You're doing the same thing. You want to say "I hate this control issue", I won't disagree with you--it's a legitimate beef whether I agree with it or not. You say "But, but I can't play it FOREVER!" and you're being stupid.

Of course. I'm upset that my wife doesn't have to live life in a Burkha, don't you know.
