Wow. Nice strawman you've built there. Care to prove your point with cites about Sun putting such terms as "change a single line of code..." into the mix?
Unlike you, I prefer to own what I buy and exercise fair use
You obviously missed the part where he said: "if you disagree with the terms and conditions music is sold under, then don't buy it and support what matches your philosophies." If you actually FOLLOW that reasonable course of action, you WILL own what you buy and exercise fair use, won't you?
Nobody's holding a gun to your head and saying you have to buy movies and music. They're "luxury items". And you, as a (hypothetically) informed consumer and pick and choose the ones that fit your use requirements, including your concept of ownership and fair use.
You still didn't read the fucking article, did you? I didn't evaluate the claim, I'm saying that the point of the article is stability. Bugger off if you can't fucking read.
Why would anyone ever want to run Solaris on x86, what's the point ?
Maybe if you'd read the Friendly article, you'd KNOW the answer to your question, instead of idly building strawmen that have not one effing thing to do with it. The POINT: stability. Read what the author had to say about it. Agree or disagree, that is the point.
As for "nice Dell", clearly you haven't been paying much attention to the news lately. Dell's hardware sucks ass and their customer service doubly so.
For Joe Sixpack & Jane Plentybutt a console and a mac are ALL THEY NEED. Just because you and I are geeks who like to fiddle with our hardware doesn't mean we come anywhere near the markets that we're talking about.
PC's are great for gaming, and I'd never give mine up. But to say you HAVE TO HAVE two machines, a PC and a mac, is ludicrous because no one HAS to do any of this. And if you WANT primarily to surf, do email, manage your photos, maybe burn some DVDs, all you need is the mac, and all you need is a CHEAP mac at that. If someone wants hardcore gaming, and don't want to have a second PC, they'll go buy a console. DUH.
I have tried and tried to buy one of those 399.00 - 500.00 WinTel boxen just for a few tasks and games but it's not doable. Those boxes SUCK!!! Once you add the 300.00 video card the price goes up!
If you think you need a $300 card for a PC, you're a moron with too much money. Perfect fodder for Mac's "inflated prices".
I don't like this decision much myself (I'm set to be squeezed off my current DSL provider by the local telco monopoly), but it seems to me that if local governments don't like it, they can start offering assistance to those competing companies, or work to overturn rules and laws preventing them from providing the infrastructure directly themselves, the way many do water and sewer, for example. Wow, what a fine sentence!
You're not really getting it on slashdot today either. This is basically horked from the Make Magazine blog. If you really are interested in that kind of attitude, you should read it instead of slashdot.
Until you've seen (or read the entire sordid screenplay/plot summary) the NGE movie (and the original series for comparison), you don't know what you're talking about. There is some VERY seriously FUCKED UP stuff done in that movie, and most people I've seen talking about it think basically Anno was tired of the NGE Otaku and wanted to break their heads into little pieces by being as outrageous as possible. He succeeded, but managed to completely destroy any sense of character that had been established in the original series. I'd say that there are several things that could be edited out to make it a better movie.
Personally I think it'll suck because they are SURE to butcher it badly. Even on Adult Swim, where they can get away with SOME stuff, they'll not be able to get through the ending.

You're a troll on a high horse.
Look in a mirror lately, monkey boy?
Oh, wait. I guess they are still around in some places....

Was not Sun.
Sounds like a job for SunRay Server! You can even run the server software on Linux....
For those without a sense of humor: this may actually work--if it were me I'd be looking into it more than casually--but I'm mostly joking.
Please try not to put words in my mouth.

"dedicated gaming machine" == CONSOLE. Or aren't you paying attention to the way the market's going?

It was Paul what said Abstinence is best, and he speaks with the Authority of Jebus in the Bible, so it's about the same thing.
And dammint it's missing KIBO! And B1FF!!!!OneonEONE
I have always wanted to be a wirehead with my very own TASP.

Let's just plug the MAKE blog's rss feed into Slashdot directly!
And why can't you run the same hash algorithm on the same password and get the same results?
This crap was old when my GF was buying it in 1988.
Not you, but definitely whoever created it. Sorry, but some things really don't need lampooning.

No, but at least they didn't have to have a world wide "Format C:"
That's a pretty good list of who you can turn to though....
I see the summary of the series and think "Oh, live-action Cowboy Bebop. Woo hoo."
Not.
