    dude I HAVE TO use Microsoft's 2008 release because the fucking morons in engineering chose fucking Windows CE as our device OS. Luckily we are stating to abandon Microsoft and their utterly shitty Embedded OS, but that is still at least 5 years away for it to move to the integration processors and is only on the interfaces right now.

    Honestly the #1 problem I found is the snot nosed punk straight out of college that tries to defend his unholy mess at peer review. Training in how to not print out the programming policy guidelines and beat the shit out of these kids with it is really needed.

    I dont care how clever you are, you follow the guidelines. and if you dont comment your code, I'm flagging it as incomplete every....fucking....time.....

    MOST embedded operating systems and compilers and libraries used by MOST companies are in fact GPL. Linux runs in almost ALL embedded systems like TV sets, BluRay players from Sony,LG,Samsung,Sharp,Panasonic,NEC,etc..., Every single Android Cellphone and Tablet ever made. Most automation systems use GPL tools in their compilers Like AMX,Crestron,TI,Intel, and all the little players like Samung Smartthings, Wink, etc.... In fact it's hard to find a company NOT using a GPL codebase somewhere, even Microsoft does.

    So I really think you need to update your knowledge of what businesses are using, because it seems the entirety of all you know about it is from 1995.

    It should be easy to detect if a cellphone tower a phone is connected to is NOT a legit tower. you used to be able to set your cellphone to only connect to a specific tower, now you are stuck with the dumbed down OS that keeps this stuff from you. Anyone know of an android image that allows fine control or full data from the cellular hardware?

Yes that means poor poor multi million dollar businesses will have to pay $100 a year to have their giant VoIP system to be verified and validated. home VoIP is forced to be sent through a certified telco that locks the CID information and disallows ANY changes.

    Honestly it could be fixed in only a couple of months if people got off their asses.

    And the funny part it's not a netbook. a dual i5 that has plenty of power. swap out the crap spinning drive with a SSD and boost to the max 8gb ram and it's faster than most $800 laptops sold today.

    If our scientists were actually interested in SETI the signal would be broadcast at insane levels and gain 24/7/365 for at least 1000 years.

    they sent a message once in a tightly beamed direction at a low power. the chances of someone looking for it and knowing WHEN to look for it receiving it are 10000000000 to 1. for someone not ready to receive it to even notice? you have a better chance of winning all of the planets lotteries at the same time without buying any lottery tickets.

    3 years? My Macbook Pro from 2012 still kicks the crud out of most new laptops and is still going strong.
    A mac pro from 2013 will absolutely still be faster than any PC a kiddie can buy from best buy even 3 years from now.

    And that is assuming it's a bright object reflecting a LOT of light from a very distant sun. If this thing is dark in color at all, the lumens available out at where they guess it is...

    One astrophysicist basically said, IT would be easier to spot a flashlight that is on and pointed at the earth out in the OOORT cloud than to directly observe a planet out there. They need to look for stars that are being occluded and see if we can create a dataset, but if it is beyond the oort cloud, the orbital period may be measured in 1000's of years and will be even hard yet to detect
