Stop FUCKING AROUND with stupid shit like phones. Make your OS not suck, Stop trying to make the server OS into a desktop. And make your other software work better and faster
There are killer apps. and look at the pebble forums ayou can find all kinds of really cool ideas that people are freely publishing.
Google and Apple prefer to hinder development and force people to pay $99 a year and go through a "you suck and your apps sucks" approval process for the watch ecosystem
Nobody is UPGRADING their smartwatches because why the hell should I pay $350 to get a watch that has zero features above what I already have? When I had a Pebble Time it did everything I wanted then and the other pebble offerings were useless iterations that either offered a useless feature (lighter and shorter battery).
the Apple Watch 2.0 only really offers waterproofing. no real advances that people would dump another $350+ to replace their 1 year old Apple Watch 1.0
The android watches, well nobody has been buying them, they have always been the last place runners, but their new iterations are all useless. Zero advantages on the new versions.
The ONLY smartwatch maker not with their head up their ass is Pebble. 10 day battery life in the Pebble Time Steel. Apple could have doubled the battery life, Samsung could have doubled battery life.... nope, they are all stuck in the "ZOMG THINNER!" stupidity.
or just have ISP's simply shut off service to users that are sending out packets to a known DDOS attack target. Granted it would mean that Comcast would have to hire competent admins and management.....
I was 100% unaffrected by the DDOS attack on DNS because I run a cacheing DNS server that I set to break the rules of DNS. I cache DNS until I get an update.
a DNS request is passed through to the main servers, if I get no response in 100ms I fall back to cached information. cached information does not expire for 30 days
so unless some obscure site that changes it's IP constantly decides to hop IP's during the DDOS attack I have zero issues.
Yep. they do. Not worth the full MSRP, but worth it used a year later for 50% the price as long as you understand the the things are as stable as a low end windows laptop.
MY 2012 MBP still works perfectly and with the recent SSD drive install will go another 2 years just fine. I bought it brand new when work bought me a piece of garbage $900 consumer laptop. and then 2 years later bought me a $800 crap laptop to replace the previous one that the screen failed on, and then finally a $650 piece of crap lenovo that prompty had all kinds of issues and the hinge cracked on in 30 days.... all the time the macbook was used the same amount every day, even dropped a few times.
the macbook pro cost $2000 and outlasted 3 Garbage windows laptops from Dell, Toshiba and then Lenovo. My current job is not ran by retards and bought me a $3000 dell precision 7510 it's built well and has decent parts in it like my macbook (no marvell garbage) it has been FLAWLESS for far longer than any windows laptop I have had previous except for when I used to use Panasonic Toughbooks.
It's not the OS, its the hardware being build decently. It's why I utterly ignore the idiots that claim that macbooks are overpriced and they can get a $600 laptop that will do the same thing. No you cant.
Moral of the story.... pay for the hardware up front, or pay for it over and over again. That last lenovo went through 5 keyboards as letters keys would stop working and have to be struck hard. not a problem for those that dont use them for work... but whne you are programming at $125 an hour havignthe fucking O key stop working will make life hell.
Now my current laptop actually runs a hypervisor as the OS and then runs a windows VM... if I have a problem I simply reboot and launch a working VM image. downtime is less than 60 seconds. Oh and we only use windows 7, windows 10 is completely banned corperate wide until further notice.
Yep. I really wanted a tesla until they started the Scumbag operating proceedures like charging $3000 to enable a software function that already exists in the car.
Elon must be starting to slide into EVIL land with this cisco esque bullshit
it has to be compressed as in like a tank of CO2 from a gas supplier uses for carbonating soda pop. then run a carbonator in water to make basically soda water, then run it through this catalyst.
It's that they are 4X more expensive than Lithium Polymer batteries. Cellphone makers care more about profits and "thinnyness" than making a quality product.
Plus using LiFePO4 means your cellphone will last 5-7 years EASILY without a battery failing. and that is bad for profits.
Here is the scary part. MOST places dont have the control network isolated from the internet. Typically because of the drooling moron managers that want to log in and spy on the workers from home.
I know of at LEAST 4 water filtration plants that have the C&C network directly connected to the internet.
Honestly the managers that deem that security breach necessary need to be waterboarded while someone takes a cattle prod to their testicles.
AI vehicles drive less than 0.0001% of the miles driven by humans per year. the sample size is so small that no information at all can be extrapolated from it in any way. Plus Semi Trucks skew that number extremely hard due to the excessive miles they drive each day.
Based on the National Safety Council's 2009 estimate of 10 million auto accidents per year, approximately 27,000 accidents occur every day caused by humans driving. there were 4 accidents caused by AI in the 2016 year, and 3 of those accidents were proven to be the fault of the human setting it to violate speed laws or doing something stupid like telling it to autopark into a semi-truck trailer.
Anything is better than the driving skills of the typical Mercedes owner. There is a real reason why those people need lane departure warnings, blindspot warnings, vehicle is braking in front of you warnings, and autopilot....
Don't even need that. 90's civics have easy to access electrical systems. 120V at 20 amps solves the problem very cleanly and destroys the amps and radio well before the fuses blow.
No one wants to buy a large open festering cesspool either.
Twitter has turned into a place of seething hatred and all that is wrong with humanity. Almost all the big guys have stopped interacting with it and now use it as a write only medium due ot the sheer numbers of shitmouths that are there that make slashdot trolls look civilized.
Their own fault for not delivering tools that allow the control of the mess early on. now it's too late.
If they stop releasing unmolested pure open OS images then what good are they going to be?
If I cant rip out the Craptastic shitpile that Samsung has in the phone as well as the crap that AT&T shovels in and get it back to a pure android with optional enhancements that they are known for then I dont see where they will go.
Cyanogenmod was the ONLY highly trusted alternative to make an android phone back into a decent device. It was the only way I was able to make the HTC One M8 into something tolerable and get rid of that craptastic "sense" that they force on you.
I really hope the CEO is mis quoted, because the Cyaongenmod OS images are what make android phones great.
We cant get "SAFE" or well maintained roads.... trying to get smart roads in place is an impossibility unless a federal mandate is passed requiring the amount of money spent on roadways is doubled at least.
Most states cant keep the lines painted on the roads in decent shape, there is zero chance that any smart road tech will be maintained.

Last 3 videogame preorders... all arrived AFTER promised delivery date and did not even freaking ship until release day.
If you like playing release day games, dont go with Amazon.

Exactly! Look at how nobody at all bought ipods and iphones and how the Nomad is what everyone uses!
They are so freaking lame....
I just go and grab the torrent if I missed it.
What needs to change is BULLSHIT copyright laws.
Yep. I really wanted a tesla until they started the Scumbag operating proceedures like charging $3000 to enable a software function that already exists in the car.

If you think it's there to protect the computer and OS you are horribly uneducated about it.
It's there to protect the precious software IP from dirty evil YOU. so you cant disable DRM and make a copy.
That is the only reason this crap exists in modern processors. Intel is King of DRM and they are trying to keep it that way.
it has to be compressed as in like a tank of CO2 from a gas supplier uses for carbonating soda pop. then run a carbonator in water to make basically soda water, then run it through this catalyst.
it is a very very complex process
pretty dang difficult to capture CO2 only and then highly compress it so you can dissolve it in H2O and run this process.

"Driving is about anticipation of events way more than reaction time."
This is how the drooling morons that justify tailgating and extreme speeding in heavy traffic and residential areas justify what they do.
Anything is better than the driving skills of the typical Mercedes owner. There is a real reason why those people need lane departure warnings, blindspot warnings, vehicle is braking in front of you warnings, and autopilot....

Rich self important assholes want to ban poor people instead of actually helping them.
Get the headline right.
not legitimate... It is horrible writing and freaking fearmongering FUD crap that is the norm for slashdot now days.
These are MODIFIED installers, the article needs to be corrected
