I got a $299 Xerox color laser that rocks. the toner cartridges, all 5 of them cost $295.00 each. Or if you can follow instructions, $98.00 to refill yourself.
I replace the cartridges every 2 refills to get new toner transfer drums when they become scored or look rough. I saved nearly $4500.00 by doing this.

I pay for lowest tier of DSL here and I get almost no jitter and faster downloads than any of my friends with 5Megabit Comcast with speedboost. All my VoIP comms are rock solid. They cant keep a VoIp connection live for more than 20 minutes at a time.
Which if you really want a linux router, you go the correct route instead of buying low grade dog food stuff like linksys.

I HAVE worked with a company that had a OSS linux core and I found we could get a product to market far faster, and after it was released, we actually started to get some patches upstream from savvy users. we reviewed them carefully, and even implemented a couple.
If the management is not purely built of closed minded idiots, OSS in a product with all of it freely shared to the world works GREAT. we ended up selling high end hardware and a good interface (at the time) for far less than the competition that was using Windows CE and QNX.
It's called having a dev and management team that had a solid understanding of not only the product but the OS and it's licensing behind it. Couple that with a near rabid following if you actually support your users and you suddenly become more successful

no problem. using the Imagemagick library I can easily script something to automatically find all images with the color of your dog. or the filename, or the exif comments field... Lots of ways.

If your OS only has configuration options in the GUI, then your OS is horribly broken. EVERYTHING should be configurable via CLI. if not then the people designing it made gigantic mistakes.
Poor underprivileged kids.... I grew up around Unix. we had a wyse terminal at home and I had my own login on the Uni mainframe (mom being a administrator had advantages) CLI in a real computing environment, with it's near endless scripting abilities Completely kicks the butt of a GUI.

I ran a very small dialup service in 1992-1996 and we ran a usenet server. I also allowed users to run perl scripting for their websites and gave them a shell login.
It's crazy that today you cant find an ISP that gives you 1/4 of the services I used to give users. I bailed when 56K modems became popular as my cost as an ISP went through the roof..
