I imagined a 24 style clock appearing on everyone's computer and Jack busting through the door screaming "WE are under attack people!" then he goes and tortures the server admins and then heads to the ISP to torture them in order to find out who is behind all this....
The "glasses" he had in the end sequence were real. It was a led based text display. Steve Mann and Thad Starner both used them for wearable computer research in the 90's
Also they never had a "virtual 3d" anything. those sequences were what he was seeing in the data on the screen.
P.S. buy the script, theres a lot more detail in it than what was shot.
Most normal people simply say, "just a sec, I got a message on my phone."
What wierdos call it a blackberry? is it the same ones that say, "I dont know, let me check my IPHONE. SEE IPHONE! LOOKIE!!!!! I'm trendy..... stop mocking me...."
disclaimer: I have an iphone. I like it because it's the best tool for a business person at the moment.
Any persons predictions will come to fruition if given enough time.
I predict the world will end in a fiery death. And I am right, simply wait around a few billion years to witness the sun eating our planet.
Predictions of flying cars will come to life the second that they can perfect the auto flying system. Because everyones worse nightmare is the current crop of idiots on our highways, piloting a "flying car" in 3 dimensions.
There's a large number of people that have felonies for killing someone with their car that you exclude because they,"don't have normal social controls in their heads that make them worthwhile employees"
these people got nabbed doing what you do every day, you are just lucky you haven't killed someone yet. I'm betting you speed, talk on the cellphone, or have had your attention taken away from driving regularly.
So roll yourself into that nice big generic pool you have there.
There are some people that by bad luck or really stupid risks (talking on cellphone while driving) have gotten the short end of the stick. Making an informed decision on a case by case basis is probably a better move than your blanket dismissal.
Problem is most software developers and OS makers also race to consume that memory. Honestly all the software today is a bloated blob that is horribly unoptimized for speed and efficiency.
It's disgusting how bloated most stuff is because we have 4gig of ram and 2 2.5ghz processors... why make it leand and mean? it compiles, ship it.
no they dont. If it's my property then they have no rights at all to it.
you cant make up rules as you go. Companies cant simply make a rule and demand anything.
If as I leave IT tries to touch my PC they will have to physically hit me get me to relinguish it, then it's physical assult and I get to crack a skull. and break an arm.
Oh and dont even try the "cop" line. My name, SSN and Drivers license number is engraved on the back and the startup screen has the same info. I also carry the Dell receipt with the serial number in my bag that shows my name on it. the cop will tell the IT guy to pound sand and to never call again for such BS.
Why do I do that? because I have dealt with weenie IT people before. If it's my property you can't touch it, you are better off issuing me a company laptop.
But that's not fair. His money pile is self replicating at a rate that he an melinda cant spend it fast enough to keep it from getting bigger. Even the Stock market crash made his pile bigger (I think it's now self away and eating people... several accountants went to his vault and have not came back.)
Although I do agree with him that the worlds wealthy need to be in line with 40% some of them here in the states are. One of the wealthiest in Michigan has his entire family funding one of the top medical research facilities in the world at an impressive rate. the number of researchers working there on their pet projects that will completely change medicine are incredible.
But on the same note, if the rich in a community gave only 3% each to the local homeless shelter, the homeless problem would be significantly reduced. Most homeless shelters are horribly underfunded and are full of mentally ill that really need to be in hospitals or group homes and not on the streets.
What? dont think it's possible? I can set up a sheeva plug that will go unnoticed in any business for years that will act as a hacking/torrenting point add in a 32 gig SDHC and I can have it even do the torrenting for me.
spread a few of these around town or even other towns and you can easily create a network of control points that will hide for you. at only $100.00 a pop
It would be trivial to make them hide from local IT until nightfall and also self destruct from tampering. (link went dead? erase it's self.) add a small battery and make it self erase if power is lost... etc... there is a ton of room inside them for that and stick a epson or HP sticker on it and nobody would give it a second look.
I have a old dish network antenna with a home made biquad at the feedpoint. I can get a solid wifi connection from over 1 mile away if I have line of sight. It will burn through trees and snag a decent connection from 1/2 mile away. I installed one in the attic of a friend house, it fires through the wood and siding and makes a solid connection to a AP that is 5 blocks away at his sisters home. 100% hidden.
metal in the Fresnel zone causes range issues, but not too bad.
Download torrents from someone elses internet. Download from starbucks. Download from Other open accesspoints.
If I use a different location each time the ain't catching me.
This is old skool hacker 100 tactics here. Rule 1 YOU DONT HACK FROM HOME..
In the USA you dont TORRENT FROM HOME. instantly you no longer have to worry about this.
I can give other ways to do this as well, but they are trivial and highly illegal (hacking a linux server and installing a bittorrent app there, etc....)
It's easy to hide completely from someone and use bittorrent.
I since abandoned all my synths and samples for a single laptop. Why lug a rack full of gear when I get better performance and more options from a laptop. I can get patches for synths that were rare as heck and supports all Midi channels I want, plus a sequencer, etc... Works great with one USB device plugged in to interface to my 2 midi keyboard controllers and 1 midi foot controller.
I sold 2 roland rack synths for enough cash to buy all the windows apps I needed... Although a buddy has set up the same on a Ubuntu using all free Software synths, apps and jack that does as much as mine does for 2 grand less... I may go his route as he found a ton of free patches. Even a true emulation of the DX7
I have my VPN port at home on port 80. It is the best way to bypass firewalls at work and other places.
works great. you can run your VPN software from a thumb drive and firefox as well. do your surfing over it and the IT BOFH's cant detect or prevent a thing.
I pointed this out once as a IT manager, "isn't it easier to educate the users about safety? any fool can vpn out port 80 and bypass all our security."
I had several IT consultant "gurus" stutter and almost foam at their mouth because they just proclaimed their new firewalls as unbreakable and it was impossible for anyone to get unwanted files through it.
Really?
what about my friend that works HR for a stripper club?
I am certian it's not only acceptable behaivoir, but expected!
Asking a senator to pay attention?
Next, you will ask they actually read and understand the bill they are voting on...
You forget how this country works.

for a while? if your definition of "a while" is only 7-10 years.
I call "a while" the 50 years that fuel injection has been around. 7-10 years = we aint' got the bugs out yet.
Most normal people simply say, "just a sec, I got a message on my phone."

that's the funny thing. Blackberry is a late comer "mee too" copycat.
Motorola had the first QWERTY data phone.. the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X.
Nokia was next with their Mobira Senator.
Then IBM had the personal communicator.
I had the first real smartphone the QCP6035 from kyerocera. It predated the first blackberry by 2 years.
Blackberry did not invent anything. They simply copied others ideas and patented them as their own.

the hardware and software does. I play games in surround all the time. and I get 5.1 surround out of netflix.
they choose not to simply to bone the console owner. Honestly only dirty filthy scumbags would want to watch videos on their network on their Xbox360.
Nasty dirty filthy.....

you know how many laptops here have the smartcard always inserted and the password on a stickynote?
Tough security requirements = worse security than before. It has always been a fact.
I say deal with it back. I sit at work doing nothing... Why? I dont have a PC, It needs to give me a PC.
I dare them to fire me over that, Instant free money from a lawsuit. 5 years full salary would be acceptable.
any IT that thinks that they can control the computers that are the users personal property is completely staffed by morons.
In fact that will screw IT quickly...
1 dont touch MY machine. if I am to use a PC for work then the Hospital must supply me with one. if I am expected to work at home ,then it's a laptop.
Once they do that for you, spread the word to everyone you know. "Tell them no, and demand a laptop, they will give you one."
It will cripple IT overnight. Suddenly they need to buy hundreds of laptops and suddenly the requirement will disappear.
The best way to fight idiot IT is to hit them where they least expect it... The Budget.
If work demands anything on my PC then I demand they buy me a work PC. Suddenly the requirement is not important anymore....

also if you only have SCSI, these work fantastic...

Exhibit B: redirect all DNS lookups to inside DNS. It's not hard at all to do.

only in books and movies....
It's ok, it was only a nightmare.
Tax returns dating back to the 80's.. WHY???
It's a personal liability to have any records that are older than 7 years. Burn those things in a fire or at least run them through a strong shredder.
