Looking at these "artistic pieces" and especially at the "engineers" the first thing that comes to my mind is that "I... Outside" sticker with a hole in the middle so you can stick it on top of your "Intel Inside" logo;-)
Every time you see x86 or PC please reread/usr/src/linux/include/asm-alpha/bugs.h
Why the does this all sound like eastern europe to me;-) A state ISP and a "supposedly not state" academic network. All eastern europe countries used to be like that;-) I will not comment on how did this influence their Internet development;-)
Can somebody with authority finally cut the f... etherstripping crap.
NT, Solaris (if tuned so) and other systems with more than one interface answer randomly from one of them. Linux answers where called. So as a result a server with 4 ethers on the same subnet will be lower under linux than any of the Mind... ZD benchmarsk.
If somebody needs that speed use a gigabit ether and a switch. Than we come to where we should be: NT - 460MB/s Solaris - 850MB/s or better Linux 2.2+ 900MB/s or better.
So can somebody with authority suggest THIS test so this crap is finally over.
I am getting sick of all this quad ether f... up

In all these tests unixes get their ether bandwidth overblown due to the lack of specific link sharing as well as IRQ sharing.
Can somebody stop this NT crap and test with a Gigabit Ether. There NT shows what a crap it is. It never goes beyond 470MB while unixes go to 800-900 MB with no problem whatsoever.
And for the requested performance a 1G ether does pay off.

The Intermind patent claim 20 seems like an exempt from old SNA protocols specs to me. It may really be a good idea to dig there. Unfortunately I no longer have them around;-(
In this case the Linux team can simply put a Microway dual CPU alpha at 500MHz with 8MB L1 cache for the same amount of money. Which obviously wins. And this is not what Mind$/M$ whant.
Do not be so fast on opinions. The survey is not as old and broad as netcraft, but it definitely has its value because it explains how did they run it.
And the "survey problem" is not with the OS counter or netcraft, but the way people interpret them and quote them. For an example see the introductory to the link on slashdor;-)
Despite by admirations to this survey (Its has actually been going for quite a while) I have to admit that its results are very wrong (as an OS count), because the system counts only exposed machines.
Machines behind firewalls, on 10.x.x.x 192.168.x.x networks behind NAT (masquarading) are not counted. And most of these are WinXX.
Overall, the results actually reflect not the OS count, but the server OS count on the net.
Quite a lot of them came because they believed in the american dream. And they found themselves in a SLAVE position.
Saying this is the same as saying that the people fished out of the African forest in the 18th century were not forced to come.
Just the force is different. In the 18th century it was the force of the gun point, now it is the force of the blues screen.

Buy an album by Lenard Cohen called "The Future". There is a very good song the called "Democracy". Listen to it and reconsider your statement.
If you are too lazy or do not want to waste a couple of bucks ask yourself the following question:
Since when did the SLAVES have any f... rights?
Quite a lot of the so called foreigners speek better english than the human material you dig up from some "english speaking" suburbs.

And they definitely do not have the habit to spell guyz with Z and for you as "4 U"
Make sure you chose something as old as TU154 where all the bloody electronics are analogue ;-)
Yes it does.
Yes the gifs are actually not gifs but something like gif but bloody inefficient.
Yes we went through this already (unless the alternative technology using RLE compression has been withdrawn as well).
As I said in numerous posts from the beginning of this discussion the results are because of the f... ethernet stripping.
Which is stupid anyway because if someone needs above 100M/s the way to go is using a gigabit ether.

Similar sindromes have been known with typing versus handwriting, stenography versus handwriting, etc.
It just happens to some people (usually if they change the way they work after 30-35).
And this does not mean that it happens to everyone of course.

The third will not be fair.
They select the clients - these should be selected based on market stats.
They select the hardware - this should be selected based on being supported by both systems.
We do not have a single 95/98 in the company (all is NT or unixes).
Are they going to use BETA hardware (AMI RAID) again?
There has to be a catch. If I was to do the configs I would not accept these conditions without knowing the hardware configs ahead.
Queso miscounts some unixwares as reliant. Reliant is NOT that popular (in the open world).

It still runs wuite a lot of the world GSM traffic
