Like they did before the Crusaders started bothering them. I wish the Middle East would go back to the way they were during the Feudal period of the West. They sold books on the street corners, while the richest king in the West had a few measly volumes at most. They were performing surgeries, while the West still thought salamanders were born from fire. I wish the Catholic church of the time had never invented the crusades. I wonder if we would have half the problems we have now.
Most areas of the US you can collect enough rain water from your roof, providing you don't have a drought like we did last summer. For instance in my area, (I made up the square ft of an average roof around 200 sq ft, not sure how accurate this is) I could gather about 70,000 gallons of water. This is based on 50 square inches of average rainfall in a year. I really need to stop renting and start buying a house and put up some rain barrels.
I've always been curious about water. Does the amount of water we have today, equal the amount of water from the when the dinosaurs lived? While I know we can run out of freshwater in areas, does that freshwater all end up in the ocean and other parts of the world? Or can it evaporate into space? My guess is no, water cannot achieve escape velocity.
This is the truth. As was said earlier. Volunteer for non-profits in your area, and try to find a small business that might hire you on part time. If you can get the experience at a small business (with a small paycheck) you can then move on to bigger and better things. A degree will get you in the door, but knowledge will keep you there. If you're looking for small business's, look at Craigslist. I've found my last 4 jobs there. I got lucky with one though, one of my good friends was a programmer there for almost 10 years. That helped me clear Human Resources.
I enjoy math, and until recently, I haven't needed it as a programmer. But now I have to write a pareto function to analyze customers, so you never know when it will come in handy.
Not to mention we could create some bad ass batteries, if my elementary science teacher knew what she was talking about. I don't remember the formula, but something plus gold caused super long lasting batteries.
If we had these, solar and wind power might make a lot more sense in a lot more areas.
How did people get along before these programs started? Looks like the food stamp program started in the 60's from the quick glance at the wikipedia article I looked at. I know I complain about entitlements (with good reason, sometimes) But we only spent $74 billion last year on food stamps. That's not really that much money in the long run. The US national deficit was $1.1 Trillion. So even without that program the US govt still spend over a trillion dollars more than they earned.
Why is there such a need for these programs now, but not before. America has always had poor people. Did they really just starve in the streets of the larger cities or even the small ones? What has changed since then? I could venture a few guesses. Anyone else?
All of their rights. It may be cruel, but it's not unusual, (in the sense that all felons are subject to it) It may not even be cruel. Cruel and unusual is one of those open to intrepretation like freedom of religion, or the right to bear arms. In my limited understanding (I've never bothered to look it up) all felons lose the right to own firearms, and to vote. I think these are sensible precautions, to protect society from lawlessness. I still propose that the rights are not taken from them, but that they are voluntarily giving them up by comitting a crime. It's a nuanced statement for sure, but again, it's correct to me in my limited understanding, I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this way, and I'm sure you're not the only one who thinks I'm wrong.
Thank God for the our First Amendment rights to have this discussion.
You can only have pacifism, because someone else has a gun. That gun is not necessarily the shotgun I use for squirrel hunting on Saturdays. It is the gun that the Marine carries every day in Afghanistan, or Iraq, or Germany, or the Azores, or anywhere else our troops have gone, and died to. Peace is a great thing to wish for, but someone else has to be put in harm's way for you to acheive it. Had it not been for guns, the world would be a much different place right now. We would still be honoring Queen Elizabeth as our monarch. It's even possible that some of us would still be the property of the rich people. You may not like guns, and that's fine. But don't forget all the good that people wielding guns have done in the world. And don't forget all the evil that men wielding guns have done in this world either.
We have a guy locally that begs on a street corner, and at the end of the day, he drives off in his Mercedes Benz. He does a pretty good job of hiding it, but once you figure out his secret, you can catch him pretty quick. Doesn't really matter to me. I like to think of it as creative accounting. I'm not giving him any money though. He probably works harder on the street in the 100+ heat than I do sitting in my office.
I'm a jackass just cause I asked about the bums with a expensive to feed dog, and an expensive backpack? I didn't think I was disparaging them. I don't know how they got the nice back packs, I don't really care. I would have gladly bought it from them, though.
I think he's trying to say that by suing this guy, he'll never be able to own a 1960 Batmobile. Which is ruining his childhood (but maybe you did undestand that, and I'm not understanding why you're upset).
I want a Batmobile, but I do think maybe it should be be able to be copyrighted. I'm really torn on this one. I don't agree with copyright law, but I think this one may be a good one.
You're spot on, but I always took that part in ROTJ to think she was speaking of her adoptive mother.

This could cause a new industrial revolution.
Is this why Lucas sold out so quick. Crap, these people are are going to sue over the fat "Asian, Islamic" slug.
I'm from the south and a redneck, and I don't take the comments personally. But some people would be offended.
Every culture has it's stupid hang ups, including white people.
They better watch out, Apple has a patent on rounded walls. You can't use them anymore.
I wish I could go back and un-see Ep 1-3.
Liberia was founded by American ex-slaves, right? I think that's pretty much a US influence right there.
Don't forget the failing government of California. They stand to profit from this in a huge way.
Now that makes good sense.
While what you say is true. Those things didn't exist back then.
So we have the standard of living was lower. This I can agree with.
The real question is:

We are not denying them their rights, when they commit a crime and break the law, they are voluntarily giving up their rights.

Are they the ones walking around asking for money, with the big ass golden retriever, and the $300+ hiking backpacks? Those guys got on my nerves.

At least we won't have to worry about those space aliens that are chained in the mountain, or on our bodies, or whatever those whackos believe.
They have the same price point, but they seem to be cheaper overall.
i.e. I could buy a giant pirate ship 20 years ago for $100, and still buy a similar one today for $100.
Although, I have no idea if the brick count is the same.
