    I despise the term "founding Fathers" so patriarchal, so overly reverent. It's reminiscent of fascist hero worship. Mob rule is another term for the sam fallacy. Basically you're too stupid to make your own decision, you should only choose which one of us will make them for you. An easy argument to sell and maintain when you look at the standard of American political debate.

    Well, "give away" is a very interesting description, maybe you should look into the PATH malaria initiative and their policies on Private Sector collaboration, what will this Malaria vaccine be worth if it is discovered and who will profit from it?

    You know who doesn't like the "tyranny of the majority"? The minority who are in power. The basic premise seems to be "you shouldn't make decisions because you might do something bad to someone else".

    How much additional safety do you think that safety would buy you on the road, given the number of motorists and the leading causes of car accidents (driver error)? You're not going to stop people crashing their cars until we have autonomous cars. However, if you see a disease arising that poses a serious threat to millions and you have the chance, you should consider doing something about it.

    I don't want to sound facetious but really, the SBLive is a nearly twenty year old card now. Fair enough it should work but getting a bee in your bonnet about it is a bit mad. If the card is giving you so much trouble do what any sane person did 10 years ago and throw it away and buy something better.

    No-one else will ever be able to hold the respect Linus has, so the community wouldn't put up with that behaviour. Building something yourself and spending twenty years in charge of it gives you a fair amount of leeway.
