Also, one or two friends I've notified have said that they had gotten such a notice pushed out to them today, but I haven't seen it. It might be because Steam crashed when my computer pooped it's brains today (I had to force-quit). Oh well, I've changed my password and I've informed all of my friends.

Accidents happen, mistakes happen, and there's really no way of knowing what the end result will be until they've had time to investigate further and decide on a solution. The fact that Steam got this information out so quickly is a good sign in my eyes.

Steam has the ability to push out news to everyone, as well as updates. I am well aware of this as every time I close out a Steam game I am bombarded with a multi-page post of the latest deals and new releases. I'm also notified when the client has to update.

I'm pretty sure that they have a way to push out a notice to everyone - I'm just wondering why they haven't done it yet.

I don't think there's been a cell phone made in the last 15 years that doesn't have SMS capability... and even if there were, I'd think that there is a very, very small minority of phones (if any) that don't have the capability to receive SMS messages.

If it takes multiple messages to push out the message, so be it.

Battlefield 3, likes it predecessors, gives serious advantages to your team - especially when people play to their roles. Some of my mates who were more hardcore about its predecessor specialized in things like piloting a transport helicopter. These were guys who were into stuff like flight simulators, and they're not even into FPS games a whole bunch. It sounds like something that really wouldn't matter too much, but if you have a guy who can consistently evade ground to air fire and get the men on board his chopper to the destination 9 times out of 10, that's a really valuable skill in a game like Battlefield.

Imagine how many people would opt out of paying taxes (without losing the benefits) if they didn't have to - that's the same reason why voter turnout is always so low, especially for the smaller, local elections.

I've looked into stuff like FairTax and other flat taxes and I hear about how it's unfair. I really think this is more FUD than common sense.

It's hard to get more fair than a completely flat tax. Millionaires or billionaires could not completely avoid it because they have to spend money and you wouldn't be able to use a shell company to make personal purchases.

Lastly, the FairTax (and similar plans I've read about) often have exceptions below a certain income level. I've often heard this cited as unfair against the more economically successful, but isn't this one of the major points of a modern society? We're supposed to take care of our fellow man - especially the ones that are not in a position to be able to care for themselves. The same logic against a flat tax could be applied to cutting Social Security, Medicare, etc. because those also cost us a fair bit of money and largely help out the poor and middle class.
