What country do you live in? I refer you to the case where the United States invaded Panama, apprehended Manuel Noriega, and brought him back to the US where he was convicted of crimes against US law while leading Panama, a sovereign nation.
Way, offtopic but since I'm a Panamenian I have to clarify this. Since when was Noriega (Pineapple face) "the leader of Panama". He was not an elected leader, but a dictator, that had many puppet presidents. This is a known fact !
There are arguments about the invasion, and about Noriega being in a US jail (he should be in a real jail, in Panama), but don't make it sound like the bastard was some kind of good leader. For goodness sake, he declared war on the US !!!
> I know this seems like the same point, but for ME at least, this has been a big seller to my wife. =) I'm sure I'm not the only geek who's getting away with a PSX2 on the grounds that "Well, we don't have a DVD player yet..."
Do you work for Sony's marketing ?:-)
You are so right on this point, I don't know how many people are using that "excuse" with their wives, but I'm betting they's lots of us.
My wife could care less about games, but when I said, we can watch all of these movies and have less cables hooked up to the TV, she was happy !!!
> Besides, the DVD playback on consoles will be crap compared to DVD players.
Where did you read this ? Reports seem to be that DVD playback on the PSX2 is very good, with two little glitches (one is sound related for very high end sound systems, the other is no remote control yet).
>and don't complain that you'll have to buy 2 devices, a decent DVD player costs about $250.
And a console is around $250 - $350, why pay $500 total, when less will do. And I don't want a million things hooked up to my TV anyways.
In 1996, only 54% of registered US citizens voted for the presidential elections.
And you want, less people to vote ?
If there were some way to limit voting based on competance (IE, do you understand the candidates positions in issues) that would be ideal (in my mind) since it is not discriminating against anything except lazyless.
There is no way to determine competence short of a mind reading device, so your idea is not practical.
What problem are you trying to solve ? Most people do not vote ! Are you afraid we're choosing the wrong people, when most are not voting ?
Yes, let's not discuss technical issues or figure if something is useful or not, let's get bogged down on licenses.
I for one, am getting tired of how complicated this is getting. If these license issues generate so many discussions with lots of confused developers, then maybe these licenses are too complicated for developers. Either simplify and clairify these damned things once and for all, or make "license/copyright law" a part of the CS curriculum.
I'm starting to miss language war discussions, coding style holy wars, etc. License non-sense is just so uninteresting.
Let's not start critizing the non-title...
It's not the official title, it's probably something the clueless reporter who wrote the article read on the internet. The title, is not new, it's been bounced around since last year !
Yup. Who in their right minds will sing up with these people now ? Most of the people I know that have broadband, connect to work one time or another via VPN.
Myself, I'll be telecommuting soon, and I'll be damned if they want to charge me more when there are people running Counter Strike and porn servers that suck up more bandwith than me !
I'm caught in the situation you describe. I'm going to start to telecommute in a month because of a terminally ill family member. I use Time Warner's Road Runner, and they didn't have any of this stuff in their service agreement. I hope they don't pull this crap on me now !!!

Most of the people in Panama wanted him out.
WOW ! You just summarized EVERY episod of Dragon Ball Z in one post ! Amazing !!!! :)
Transformers is the best !!! 100 times better than the current animal robot 3D crap showing now.
What other cartoon would have robots getting drunk by drinking energy cubes (remember that ?) !
Oh gosh, I remember that. It was horrible !
...
What station was this ? I think it was every morning very early, not sure
This product has been around for ages. Guess this is the only thing left from SCO.
... if you think getting a "free" DB with no code will replace the systems in place.
.
If you where an IT guy, you'd suggest we search for the product at microsoft.com
Cool , thanks !!! Do you know how much your friend paid for the remote (with the deal ?).

It does suck, but they probably are required to "enforce" it.
...
You won't like this, but the US version of the PS2 will have the DVD playback stuff in the hardware
For more info, check the PS2 FAQ.

> Will the Playstation 2 be enforcing region codes?
I think so. They had a "bug" where they didn't enforce them, and have now fixed it if I remember correctly.
It will have a DVD drive, but won't be able to play DVDs.
...
Yuck.

Not being able to figure out which of your "categories" he fits, is probably a compliment for him or anybody.

This is a Nerd site, buzz off !
> I'm sure I'm not the only one that doesn't really care what on earth they call it...
:)
Not the only one, but definetly in the minority.
Hey, no problem, just don't watch episodes II and III. That means less time for the rest of us to wait in line !
Let's not start critizing the non-title ...

Just a minor nitpick :
The correct term is "metaphor" not "analogy".
It's not a big deal, as a Spanish speaker, at least the character set is almost the same.
But it was good in the fact that it helped me learn English, specially in the 80s where most computer publications where only in that language.
That's good to hear. I'll make sure I move to a place that also has DSL, in case Road Runner gets facist on me ... :-)
Thing is, telecommuters sometimes pay their own connection. Or, companies will not want telecommuters if the prices are too high.
Yup. Who in their right minds will sing up with these people now ? Most of the people I know that have broadband, connect to work one time or another via VPN.

Well, this has nothing to do with the technology (DSL vs Cable modem) but with the company.
I use Road Runner, and I *am* going to Telecommute. I see nothing in their agreement about that.
A DSL provider could come up with a similar non sense agreement too.
