Simple as that. Pluto doesn't deserve equal status to the _real_ planets. Otherwise, let's just call every rock or gas cloud a planet and be done with it.
Colbert was just using wikipedia as an example of how people inentionally alter the facts for their own benefit. The source doesn't have to be wikipedia. Take FOX News for example.
It's also quite possible that Oracle is purchasing these simply to be able to slap their name on them as a marketing tactic. Oracle has given away it's software for years from the belief that the more people are exposed to Oracle, the more likely they will be to recommend it for commercial use. If people end up using MySQL and see that Oracle is the transactional engine behind it, if they ever need to move to a more robust backend, they will likely want to stick with Oracle. At least, that's what I suspect Larry wants to believe. And I also believe it makes good sense.
Too bad Apple didn't use mozilla for the Safari engine. They might have donated their Think Different ad for this. The press alone would probably be huge.

I'd expect an information company like Google to be interested in the information delivery aspect of IM over it's interperson communications capabilities. IM is a combination email-webbrowser that can deliver information between clients (like email) on request (like a browser). Will google offer IM-bots to deliver content? Seems reasonable to me. Also, offline IM is email! In fact, I log all my IM conversations to my mail folders so that they are searchable along with my other main form of communication, email. What I've never understood is why email and IM aren't the same application. I think (hope) Google is taking us there.

I was simply making a statement that linux is usable as a desktop and has been for _me_ for at least two years. Did I make any statement that implies that I think I approved Linux as a desktop OS because of my use? NO! You honestly think that someone's acknowledgement of use implies their approval for everyone else's use?! Ridiculous!

I remember many years ago when everyone was saying Linux will never be a desktop OS. I've been using it as by desktop exclusively for at least two years.
Now I'm not saying Linux will ever be as nice and easy as an Apple GUI but I also don't think you can discount it. In fact, there are probably some people that already consider a Linux GUI to be better.
You know, I have no problem with dupes. I don't spend my life on./ so don't get a chance to see every headline that comes up first-run. I'm glad for reruns. I missed the first several episodes of Lost but caught am all caught up now. Maybe instead of complaining about it being a dupe or rerun we can flag it as such and you people that do read everything that's posted can have a preference for skipping them.
That may be the case but it's also easy and fun to find good indie music. I don't listen to radio and I only buy good indie that I've listened to online. I spend $100+/mo on new music and the RIAA never gets there grubby little paws on any of it.
Exactly but how many of you are willing to boycott corporations that lobby/pay for something you oppose? Money talks is right and our money talks to corporations as much as theirs does to governments. I'm personally bycotting many corporations and oranization and written letters to them to that extent. Curious, if I create a simulation and can acurately predict past events for which we do have records, can't that simulation extrapolate backwards and forwards within some margin of error?
I think I'm getting better service from Cingular over AT&T Wireless. Seems my Ameritrade account is slightly better than the old Datek. So I guess, yes, I have seen a few mergers improve service.
