When I first installed linux I was shocked at how many services were turned on by default. This is a cracker's dream - a neophyte user who has every service turned on. Uggghn.

HTML is too open, the Microsoft camp would never support vanilla html documents. The obfuscation of HTML into MS-HTML is already occuring, and soon, it will be as fucked up as the proprietary.doc format, both of which you can only read with a proprietary MS program . Thanks Bill.

However, in order to nuke Windows and install Linux, you want to hose the Fat28 partition with fdisk and make ext2/swap in its place, not FORMAT C:\, as formatting will still leave the MSDOS partition there. "Restart format c: and install linux" should read "Restart, fdisk delete c:, and install linux"

Driver issues are touchy. Vendors giving out specs for fear of ip theft is big (nvidia) and also Big Money threats (microsoft) prevent it. Not to mention brain damaged devices (winmodems)
I have a gravis Xterminator gamepad that I bought and paid for, installed thier latest drivers in windows 98, and had problems. I emailed thier "support" several times detailing the problem with only an auto-generated reply each time. That support sucks. The Xterminator is supported in the linux kernel, so I am happy.
I also assume when you say gaming, that you mean DirectX gaming. Gaming is great when you avoid DirectX like the plague. Quake1/2/3 provide me with enough gaming right now, and they all run on linux.

A recent high profile site compared linux to windows, as far as gaming, user friendlyness, and support. Linux is free software, and it kicked Microsoft Windows' ass in support, and Windows is payware.

No. People who steal software (copy software), would not actually buy it. Also, copying software does not remove the legit copy from the market, whereas stealing a car would. Microsoft is assraping the customer for no reason but pure profit. I particularly like how Microsoft claims to have reduced the cost of a computer over the last decade, yet the cost for an operating system with the same functionality has gone up by a factor of ten. (thats DOS and Windows for those of you that don't get it)
Unless you pirate your software, you just paid several hundred, if not a grand, more than an intelligent computer user who runs a freenix and star office.

It is browser independent, as long as your browser is Internet Explorer.
