That's what grid-connected solar arrays are for. You use the grid as your battery. In California at least, with a grid-connected array, PG&E buys any surplus electricity you generate during the day (while you're at work and the sun is shining) for the more expensive daytime retail price and when youg et home and actually consume, you buy back from the grid for the cheaper, night time price.
Allow me to quote the venerable Donald Rumsfeld:
Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know.
Just to be clear, while the squeezebox ($279 w/ WiFi) is cheaper than the SoundBridge M2000, both the SoundBridge M1000 ($249 w/WiFi) and M500 ($199 w/WiFi) are cheaper than the squeezebox. The squeezebox has a display similar to the M1000, so that's probably the best comparison.
That won't work. The big, deep-pocketed company would still sue the little guy. The little guy still can't afford to run up huge legal bills on the off chance that he does lose, for some reason. Nevermind that malicious parties that have a case could use legal bills in a punative manner by inflating the bill (artificially or otherwise) as a means of forcing a settlement or causing increased financial burden above and beyond any court-granted awards.
We haven't modified the SlimServer software, we're merely a client for it. No GPL concerns enter into it.
It should be noted that SlimServer is just one of MANY servers we support including iTunes (directly, using licensed DAAP from Apple) and many UPnP-AV Servers (including Windows Media Connect with support for DRM'd WMA files).
So, if you're considering the Squeezebox, you should do yourself a favor and consider the SoundBridge since it can do what the Squeezebox does and MUCH MUCH more, and look better doing it (IMNSHO). Oh and do it for less money.
For those of you that are NSLU2 fans, Twonkyvision has a build of their UPnP Server for it and there's an open source DAAP server available for it. Cool stuff.

Actually, try every 2000 lamp-hours at $500/pop. This is for a DLP Font projector (Sharp 9000).
From what I've seen, the DLP Rear Projectors have a rated lamp life on the order of 8000 hours. Presumably because they don't need to be a bright since the screen is smaller.
That is exactly what we have at my precinct in San Mateo County, California. It's great. It's not perfect, however as I overheard the following checkange between an elderly voter and a pollworker
Pollworker: Sir, you need to revote, you can only vote for one person for governor (this was the Recall election, btw)
Voter: Right, one person per column.
Pollworker: No sir, one person period.
Voter: What about the back?
Pollworker: Out of all the candidates, front and back, you can only choose one.
So, am I correct in my assessment that this device won't play or record 1080i? *sigh*
No, I'm afraid your assessment is incorrect. The HD1000 is a HD Media Player. We couldn't (or at least shouldn't) call it HD without supporting at least 720p or 1080i. Of course, we support both, in addition to 480p and 480i. Of course, the HD1000 doesn't record anything, but can display your photos in 1080i and playback HD ATSC trasport streams in 1080i or 720p (or 480p or 480i if you really want to)
We didn't choose to add DVI because of the additional cost and complexity. We felt that customers would overall be well served with component and and vga. Of course, DVI is being considered for future products.
Sure, but can the XBox do it with no noise, in less than 1RU while allowing to play back HD Transport streams that you've recorded from the ATSC tuner/capture card in your PC?
One key component that I did not see addressed in the article is how you control this device. Is there a remote that lets you interact with a TV friendly menu system?
Of course there's a remote. You can also control it via the serial port or by telneting into the HD1000. And, if you'd like to control it in ways we don't currently provide, grab the SDK (once it's available) and code away.

Look up the SHVIA(Satellite Home Viewers [something] Act). Your landlord/homeowners association can not stop you from putting up a small dish (as long as it is positioned entirely on and over properly that you're leasing.
And relatively free of showstopper bugs.

That means nearly four out of every thousand will have all four of those powers! Sweet!
dit...dit...dit...
Wow, I totally misread those d's. . I was wondering if you had a case of Tourette's.
On the otherhand, IT'S TEXAS!
Yes, but presumably Apple would get a cut of the subscription fees and/or a bounty for each new user.
Plus, iTMS exists to sell iPods, not the other way around.

Q:What does drinking Budweiser have in common with having sex in a canoe?
A:They're both fucking close to water.
It's because of all the dupes.
The early Replays ran MQX and the current Replays run VxWorks.

You may be legally allowed to make a backup copy, but the copyright owner is not legally required to facilitate the backup.

Um, Halo has a fantastic 2-player Co-op mode. Of course, it's xbox only.
