  1. Re:Caizen is actually spelt with a K on KDE 4.3 Released · · Score: 1
C'mon Slashdot, we ought to know our regular/irregular verbs!
    • to bend // I bended/bent // bended/bent
    • to bereave // I bereaved/bereft // bereaved/bereft
    • to bet // I betted/bet // betted/bet
    • to bless // I blessed/blesst // blessed/blesst
    • to dream // I dreamed/dreamt // dreamed/dreamt
    • to learn // I learned/learnt // learned/learnt

And the list goes on... There are a many verbs out there that can be both regular and irregular. Some even have more than two forms for the preterite and/or past participle.

  2. Obscurity vs security/safety on Apple and the Scalability of Secrecy · · Score: 1, Funny

Apple are very good at obscuring things instead of securing them. I'm not saying they're the only one who are doing it, but hey, does anyone remember the 8400M/8600M fiasco? Apple said it was a PC issue only, thus not affecting Macs (My ass!). But what tops it all is the use of ads stating Mac user don't need to use antivirus software, resulting in said users spreading viruses when their machine is a "symptom-free carrier."

This must be a French thing, 'cause here in Reunion Island, people will always slow down near anything unusual on the road (can be any kinda road). And mind you, they do do it because they're being careful, they just wanna see what's going on, even when it's something totally pointless, like wrecked cars.

Not to mention the state of media players on Linux...

Going a little bit off-topic first: a cousin of mine had Ubuntu on his laptop (featuring a Geforce 9300M G) and couldn't get rid of image tearing in VLC. Who would be the culprit in this case? The video drivers or the media player? I have kept wondering since then and my enquiring mind would like to know.

At any rate, could you please elaborate? What makes media players bad under Linux?

  6. Elusive Wii Hate on Does the Wii Provide A "Watered-Down" Game Experience? · · Score: 1

What strikes me as a gamer is the lack of interest for the Wii because of its lower specifications. Alright, so it has a lower clocked CPU, a less capable GPU, and less RAM overall; should this be the reason why game developers shy away from the platform, thinking gamers won't accept graphically watered-down games in comparison with Sony's and Microsoft's consoles?(*) I can't help but think that the "HD" letters must have hit the gamers' minds pretty hard, because I remember seeing screenshots from Deus Ex and Quake III on the PS2, and those didn't look glorious in any way. Not to mention Black & White on the PS1. So, let me repeat this one more time: the "high-definition" buzzword, to me, is very likely to be the cause of such a lack of interest towards the Wii.

As for Wii hate, I have no idea where it comes from.

I've come across several people displaying a peculiar hatred for the platform, but one of them caught my attention in particular: basically, he was blaming Nintendo for not making a console that sports HD. When I started to talk about his console (the guy owned an Xbox 360) and how it neither supported HD sound, nor supported HD optical media, he just said it was fine by his standards. Hypocritical, I know.

This had me thinking that some people became infatuated with the HD trend (only on the visual side, of course) and started hating the Wii for this very reason.
