  1. ...at least Orville tried to do sci-fi...

It's not serious sci-fi because it's just too goofy. I don't think serious sci-fi is possible with Seth MacFarlane at the helm. Red Dwarf was goofy, but they embraced it and made it entertaining. The Orville is in that no-man's-land where it's neither serious nor funny. For me, that keeps it from being entertaining.

  2. Inventing a planet that looks identical to 1980s U.S. and speaks English is stupid. Rehashing Black Mirror's plot by moving it to the 1980s was lazy at best. Those are opinions. I can say it's objectively bad because the critics hated it. I can also say it's objectively good because apparently the Rotten Tomatoes fans like it. Good/bad is always a matter of taste.

  3. There's an obvious disconnect there, but I'm siding with the 20%. "The Orville" is awful. I tried to like it, as I've sometimes found myself entertained by Seth's cartoons, but I just couldn't. When they discovered the planet that was identical to 1980's U.S. where everything runs on social media score, exactly like that Black Mirror episode, I was done.

  4. Last year was Ghost In The Shell & Blade Runner. I enjoyed both and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Blade Runner. I'd be more hesitant to recommend Ghost In The Shell because a lot of people are really passionate about the original. There was a third I forgot - Flatliners. A friend dragged me. It was cool to see the chick from Hard Candy, but it offered nothing that the original didn't.

  5. ...it has to be something special that really warrants a MUCH larger screen...

I went to 2 movies in 2017. So far, I've seen 3 this year. The MoviePass subscription my brother bought me for Christmas has really altered my habits. Star Wars was fine; The Shape of Water was good; Insidious was awful. Like you, Rotten Tomatoes holds no weight for me. I've probably been to the site, but I don't remember it and haven't ever relied on it for anything. I put more weight even on an AC review on /. because it's more likely to be a review from somebody "like me" than a random RT review.

  7. I'm sincerely curious what Apple is monopolizing or why they are included in this list.

Obviously we have monopolies directly competing with each other in populated markets. Simple.

  8. Not that any amount of examples would ever sway you.

One would do me. Just one. One link to their site with a story full of lies. Or an example where they made a mistake and doubled down on instead of correcting. Not that any amount of examples will ever be provided.

    Piss dossier

Maybe you can give me a link to CNN's site where they say that DJT's water-sports tape is more than allegation?

Claiming Soros did not work with the Nazis

Despite politically-motivated rumors to the contrary, billionaire leftist George Soros was neither in the SS nor a Nazi collaborator in the Second World War.

Claiming wiretapping of Trump tower never happened

Obama never tappped DJT's phones. If you think he did, you're as deluded as him.

  9. ...we're probably never going to have autonomous Formula-1 racing.

It seems to me that track racing would be a great application for autonomous driving. Response time, optimized acceleration/braking, few distractions, etc. What makes you think it would be so much tougher than navigating traffic?

  10. Let's take a look at a couple of these. I have my own theory on why there are so many stories that put DJT in a bad light and bias has little to do with it.

Davos crowd boos when Trump slams free press ... Jeers heard as Trump calls media 'fake'

DJT says Stalin-esque stupid shit to the world. World responds appropriately.

Trump touts his 'America First' agenda

Well, yeah... That was his plan going in and exactly what he did. How would you like to see this reported?

Anderson Cooper debunks FBI 'secret society' conspiracy theory

The 'secret society' conspiracy theory is fucking stupid and debunking it is exactly the right thing to do. If you're in support of the 'secret society' theory, it doesn't make you biased. It makes you fucking stupid.

Schumer didn't want WH aide in Trump chat

How did this even make the list? How is this DJT bashing?

Trump says he would apologize for retweeting far-right British group

DJT should apologize for those tweets. Did you see them? Any way, reporting that he's apologizing seems like a pro-DJT story. Reporting ON those tweets comes across as very anti-DJT just as it should.

I could go on, but we're already past the TL;DR limit. In any case, the assertion was that they couldn't post a single article that wasn't full of obvious lies. I'm waiting to the link to the article full of obvious lies. You can accurately allege bias in the headlines of literally every news agency.

  11. You do realize you shared the same link I did? Saying "CNN has corrected themselves more than once" is not remotely the same as saying CNN "can't post a single article without propaganda stuffed with obvious lies." Unrelated, calling them biased is importantly different than calling them liars. I wouldn't even call FoxNews liars even though they've got a few strikes and their bias turns my stomach. There are organizations that describe themselves as news outlets that I'd happily call liars, but CNN and FoxNews aren't among them.

  12. Are we suddenly going to run out of people that drive cars and trucks?

We're not going to run out, but I'm sure we can find something else for the US's 3.5 million truck drivers to do once we automate them away. Maybe we'll have them mine coal or manufacture buggy whips.

  13. Re:How will they find them? on Ford Has An Idea For An Autonomous Police Car That Could Find A Hiding Spot (jalopnik.com) · · Score: 1

...prevent cases where prisoners gain access to the driving compartment of squad cars and escape, overpower/kill the cops...

Are these cases common? My attempts at finding examples are turning up little. A couple of tragic bus incidents and a case from '89 where somebody got in the back seat with a gun.

  14. Re:They only missed one obvious thing. on Ford Has An Idea For An Autonomous Police Car That Could Find A Hiding Spot (jalopnik.com) · · Score: 1

I read "To Collect and Sever". Sounded aggressive.

  15. I have no problem with somebody calling CNN biased. They're not FoxNews level biased, but of course there's a slant. But when somebody calls them liars, I'd like to see evidence. There just isn't any. Every time I ask I get no reasonable response, but some mixed reactions from the mod lords. For some people, the phrase "CNN is not FAKE NEWS" is really offensive even though they have no support for their position. Just because our president screams something over and over does not make it true. Our president regularly lies and I can back that up a helluva lot better than somebody accusing CNN of the same. If somebody takes DJT's word over CNN's, they need their head examined and I'd LOVE to see something to contradict that.

  16. Wow! Hits on Google! What was I thinking??? Obviously CNN is a sack of liars if Google returns results! I notice you don't link to one of their articles where they're purporting lies. I wonder why.

Look at how many hits there are. Wow.

Here's a much more useful link if you're trying to discredit CNN. You might have linked to something like this and tried to explain why swift, responsible, and aggressive handling of misreporting is the same as lying. They have a stellar track record of getting the facts straight or immediately correcting themselves and you've provided nothing to counter that. If you'd like to trade examples of CNN being inaccurate regarding DJT for examples of DJT being inaccurate about the world around him, I'm definitely game. If you'd like to trade examples of CNN doubling down on misinformation for examples of DJT doing the same, that sounds like fun too.

I'm waiting to the link to their article full of lies. The assertion was that they never write an article that isn't full of "propaganda stuffed with obvious lies".

Or CNN. Damn it, if I'm browsing the news I'm either listening to music or at work. If I want to start a video, I'd like to make that decision. If I wanted to watch a broadcast, I'd be in front of a TV. I like Anderson Cooper and Jerry Garcia, but not at the same time.
