    Why do humans like to blame gods or supernatural powers for their own stupidity?

    I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that it's because they're too stupid to know better ?

    It also allows them to claim it's not their fault - "It was like that when I found it Dad"

    Except that, as far as I know, the Fox series was called Firefly and the film was called Serenity because Universal didn't have the rights to use the Firefly name. On the other hand maybe Universal wouldn't grant the rights or possibly I may be plain wrong.

    Just a little joke at your expence and no offence intended. If you haven't already read it Ian Stewart's "Does God Play Dice" is a good read and a bit more mathematical if that's likely to help. I enjoyed it but as you can see from my sense of humour there's no accounting for taste.
