My washing machine won't talk to the producer in 10
years. There is no reason to do so. My mothers
machine is now running for 20 years and her old one
did it for a longer time.

Also my computer won't understand me in 10 years.
Because it won't get the contexts. The problem with
context cannot be solved with more memory.

The next predition was a video recorder with
1TByte. Well that sounds reasonable to me, but
without special keys I wouldn't be able to watch
anything on that disc, because it is encrypted.

Well I predict. Less freedom, and more control

He is right in X11 is bloated and also in
why you have to use SCSI emulation for a CD-RW.
On a technical view the SCSI emulation thing is
logical the right way, but it confuses normal
    users.

The other major point is X-Window.
It is slow and bloated. But I suggest that an
Framebuffer only interface is not the solution.
A good windowing system should be a able to
show local and remote applications. The solution
offered by vnc goes in the wrong direction. I think even more Interface funtionality should
move to the display server. Because nowadays Pximaps are stored in the widget set in the application and in the X11 shm.

Also the antialiasing in X11 is not as good as
    in MacOS X and Windows.

But I am not such an average computer user so
I will stay with my stable "unstable debian GNU/linux" :-)

Well, this GEMA thing has nothing to do with
German laws. The GEMA is an agency, which represents the copyrights of its members.
    (GEMA homepage: http://www.gema.de/eng/index.html)

So this issue will not affect the next election in
Germany. The major discussion in Germany nowadays is about immigration and how we should handle this
issue. Other points are unemployment, reform of the social systems (health insurance, retirement pension, etc.)

    > but once they put taxes on the media...
Your paying already a fee on audio tapes and that
    didn't hurt anyone.
Don't forget that you could make copies of CD's or MC's on your tapes, and that's not illegal. Because you payed alredy for that :-).
On the other hand the GEMA is a really strange thing.

Linux is not SuSE which is very popular in Europe or at least in Germany, Red Hat, Debian (my favorite by now (this may change in future) or any other dist. Point 1 is Linux is more a kind of philosophy.
In a more pragmatic way, you choose a dist. which
satisfy you most. As I have a leased line I prefer
debian, because it is easy to install (if you
know how to handle their strange install tool), alos you can update very easy your system over night.
On the othe hand a Redhat linux works fine as
small (very small) office server at my friends place.
So my mother is using SusE because the german lang. support is better than in any other (known) dist.
=> Linux is what you need, but in no way Redhat is Linux as suse is not Linux and also maybe in the future M$ is not Linux ;)
