I've had several people very angry at me for giving them Puyo Puyo 2, as they kept dreaming of multicolor anime blobs, and even seeing them when they were awake. And these were people that had already gone through their Tetris stint. Horribly addictive game, unfortunately very hard to get in the states.
But like most mp3 players, it seems to have problems doing really simple things - like (gasp) dropping a bunch of files onto it and having them end up in the correct order (sorted by track). Sonique can't do it, WinAmp can't do it, the only ones I've seen that can are XMMS and SoundPlay for BeOS. I'll probably end up installing Sonique for BeOS, but mostly just for eyecandy - nothing can match the feature set of SoundPlay.
Like I'm really gonna download that piece of junk and leave it running just to not see ads in AIM. I think having to look at it all the time is worse than seeing ads.
I mean, come on, they opened the TOC protocol - why would they do that, ostensibly to facilitate communication with AIM users from other clients, and then lock out clients?
Bullshit, you moron. Lars pays the bill. You think taxpayers pay all medical expenses? Plus, I imagine he has good enough insurance to cover that kind of thing.
So fucking what? I don't understand why everyone feels they have to conform to the fascist views and license of RMS. Python releases with a license that's more free than the GPL (in fact, this is one of the strong points of python - it's not GPL), and they get totally flamed for it.
The whole issue is ridiculous, and I think Python should take the same stance as QT/KDE, and tell RMS to get lost. We need more projects doing that, instead of bowing to the whim of this looney.
I really would love to have something like this in place. Every time I try OpenBSD, I say "wow, it's really nice, but it just doesn't have enough ports...". It's silly, but that's what keeps me from using the OS on a regular basis, sticking with FreeBSD instead - I don't want to run around without and package management ability, and I don't want to have to grab loads of apps that were written primarily for linux, and don't have configure scripts, and have to tweak them to run.
As far as security of the ports, which I think Open has stopped being so strict about, I don't think it's the responsibility of the project to audit other people's code. If anything, the tree could be split into a secure and regular branches, so people who cared could just stick with secure.
To play with, anyhow. There was a company that made some on stationary square pads that I played with at comdex, and they were kind of interesting, but it seems force-feedback technology is always kind of crappily implemented.
What I'm confused about is that the CNN article says Logitech came out a with a different force-feedback mouse 'last year'. I don't remember anything like that, but I guess they're talking about the original Cyberman that came out around 94, which I personally thought was hella cool, although it was never supported by anything other than Descent.
Sure, housing is overinflated here, but it's not all that bad. I just recently moved here, and although my housing costs are being taken care of for a while(most people need help to move to the bay area and get started), i've seen the costs of housing and other things, and it's all definitely doable. Where I live food is normally priced, most things seem to be - what's expensive is: taxes, and by extension alcohol, tobacco, gasoline, property, etc. That's what nails most people. Hovever, even though things are expensive, it's completely worth it to live here. I live pretty close to Santa Cruz right now, off in the forests to the northeast, and I have to say that it's wonderful out here. The weather and scenery are absolutely wonderful, there's lots to do, there's good jobs for people who know their shit, and a lot of very cool people. I'd rather live here in a normal house than a mansion in indiana.
(raises hand) I use napster for things that I can't get otherwise. I'd rather have something on CD, where I don't have to spend hours finding a full album encoded at a decent rate, without the songs cut off. What I use it for is to get rare tracks, things off of albums that are out of print, live tracks, and singles off of compilations that have no other artists I'm interested in, and wouldn't spend the money just to get the one song.
Read again. G4 CHIPSET. As in the chipset info in the G4 machines. I did not say G4 CHIP. Firewire is 25c per port for MB manufacturers. And it costs more than just the licensing fees to put it on there. When you add up the cost, it isn't worth it for pc manufacturers.
and I don't know how many others are like me, but I spend a hell of a lot on music. The other day, I was on napster, getting a song or 2 from a particular artist - found that I liked the artist very much, and rather than thrash around with trying to find a full album online, I went to the record store and bought it. I think I buy just as many albums now as I did before I got napster - and I do buy a decent amount at emusic.com as well.
ok, the xml support maybe. I suppose that's not a bad idea, but I'm not a big fan of kernel modules. DirectX though, not a chance. There are efforts underway to make crossplatform versions of such things though, like SDL.
You folks just don't get it, do you? BSD is NOT TRYING to gain more marketshare. You're thinking of Linux. BSD is concerned with making the best product possible - if lots of people use it, fine, if only a few do, fine. There is no need for market strategy, and this seems to be a hard concept for people to wrap their minds around. As for your 'monthly release cycle', we have a daily one. There are nightly snapshots, and you can always sync your source with the current versions.
Furthermore, what kind of crack are your experts on? XML support in the kernel? What the hell for? That makes zero sense. And besides the fact that DirectX is a proprietary Microsoft standard, why exactly does UNIX need it?
Yeah, I don't doubt it. I just thought it was interesting how when she didn't have all the makeup on, she just looked like a normal, reasonably attractive girl. There was a HUGE difference.
Proof once again that being 'beautiful' is simply a matter of professional makeup and photography. It's amazing how different women look after that kind of makeover - check out Asia Carerra's made up look as opposed to normal. I don't get down on women for getting augmented, because that's their own choice, and I get sick of people being trendy by insulting women who have it done, but I have to say that fake tits and wig-like hair just doesn't do it for me. Conforming to fucked-up beauty standards just perpetuates them further and messes up people's self esteem. That said, I'm off to work on getting some washboard pecs.

First thing I thought when I read it. Went to the comments and searched for "inspector."

Duh, it's perl.

I'd like a sawed-off Remington.
:)
The napster of the future - kids swapping CAD files of Glocks.
Ok, so there might be some technical limitations. But I think this technology could result in some major changes in society.

Agreed - it's the closest thing to intelligent I've seen him write so far. :)
