Damned right. That's one of the reasons I use Windows. No choices! There's only one (mostly) widget set! (Incidentally, this is also one of the reasons I won't use Mozilla. If the system widgets aren't used, than neither is the program. Winamp was booted for similar reasons.)
Not that I'm against choice, but mine is rather clear :) I vaguely recall, long ago, describing my attitude as "I'll buy a car of any color, as long as it's black."
Strangely, this attitude set in about the same time I started using my computer primarily for games. Also, an attitude of not wanting to think or care about how the computer works came about as well.

I agree. I have a computer running FreeBSD. This is because in a few weeks I will have a DSL line and I want a web server on it. I'm having some unix guru friends of mine lock down the system, because I only have a vague idea of security. I can manage Apache just fine though :)
I'm not foolish enough to put a Windows box out to handle these things and I know just enough unix to keep myself from blowing the machine up once it's installed properly.

The joys of philosophy and binary abstraction.
Annnyyway, perhaps one reason that software companies offer upgrades at reduced prices and "they" don't is because there is competition among software. Or maybe it's just to get people who otherwise wouldn't upgrade to do so?

Right now I run Windows ME. It is the greatest thing in the universe. If I loved it anymore, I would probably be required to marry it or something. I have but two issues with it, one serious and one not-so-serious.
Serious: some DirectX apps don't quit DirectX mode when they quit, meaning I have to restart my machine.
