That may be... I sorta find "confusing and complex and frustrating" as exciting, at least at first... if it stays that way, I eventually give up and deem it "unworthy".
Very few applications are bug free, especially those that have to accomodate to a larger variety of users.
As far as I am aware, its at 1.0 because they met their goals for the 1.0 release, its not really that different from what 0.9 was, or what 1.1 will be, they added support for a few more applications, probably did some code cleaning, etc, etc...
As for targeting games, thats actually a very good decision the way I see it, considering that one of the largest reasons XP is still kicking is because of games (granted not all the reason)
Following games, comes users, following users, comes developers...
Games are also easier to target because they are generally a lot more simple, targeting mostly DX or OpenGL, a couple DLL's done... take a look at Photoshop, or Office they are complex as hell, with binaries scattered all over the place...
Yeah, but Slashdot already warned us almost a week ago that FireFox was going to be released today (thats if you werent already aware of it)
Besides, anyone who relies on WINE, is going to be looking for the 1.0 release, for business or pleasure, downloading FireFox, installing, fuckin around with it only takes a few minutes, and doesnt really add anything that exciting (its just a browser, does the same shit it always has), WINE on the other hand is far more exciting, and potentially quite influencial on the market, im sure there are quite a few companies keeping it in the corner of their eye, but FF3 isnt anything special, World Record or not...
Wow, yeah, very interesting, its also a month after May 17th too, in 2008 no less, which follows 2007...
The shitty part about New Scientist, is that it requires a subscription, whereas NYT/IHT doesnt, albeit some stories are a month late, but then again, isnt the entire story well over half a century late?
I think it just means its relatively solid, ie: non-gasious, plus they may deem it to be in the proper "zone" to become an earth-like planet (not too close, not too far)
Im not expert, but they (or at least one) may have an atmosphere of some sort, but I dont think anything that revolves around its sun that quickly, is likely to have "life", at least not intelligent life, they would have to be stupid yet productive, like insects...
Yes, but... if it runs 50% Faster on XP, and 23% Faster on Vista, thats saying something... im not sure if its saying that Vista, or DirectX10 is worse, or that the card, or its drivers/instructions are "worse" for Vista, or even that the game(s)/3d software they were using was more targeted at DX9 and Shader 2/3x instead of DX10 and Shader 4, or something.
You'd think they would be aiming for something hat runs faster on Vista than XP, if they are trying to step forwards, because although XP still has the share, I wouldnt want it to stay there for much longer.
But, I thought that was the "in thing"... like iKea and iPods... simplicity over clutter...
But glancing at the cover, it seems to mix 3 different styles of anime...
I'm not sure how "animated" it is, but im hoping that it isnt all comic, I think it would be better if you had like 3 pages of comic/story, as sort of an introduction, and then a page (of 0mG all text) that goes into depth about the subject.
Personally, I don't really see this "going anywhere", I think it would make a better web-comic than a book/comic, plus is seems really "preachy"...
Knowledge we were taught to do good things And seems directed at like the 8 - 12 ages, yet uses scary 4 and 5 syllable words that will turn a lot of them off...
They wouldnt know, but if you started cutting out pieces of your own brain and selling it at the street corner, its likely it would raise some eyebrows, and thats what this guy was doing, selling the mod chips.
Bigger, heavier, twice the price... but I would happily take that over the Mac-Mini, and im sure there are others aswell... but, its not "my thing" I'd rather have a computer that took up an entire room that I could climb inside, thats would be kickass...lol
But I wasn't arguing against you, and saying that "No we do! have free speech rights!" but rather the reverse.
Most people just assume we (I'm Canadian) have it, when all we really have is the freedom to try, and that may or may not lead to consequences. "freedom of expression" basically just means we have the allowance to think and make opinions, and maybe make a gesture, provided that gesture isn't associated with racism or sexism.:| But, that depends on how you define Expression if dictionaries start omitting "communication" as a part of "expression" we are in serious trouble...
On the other hand, personally I think that "freedom of expression" is better than "free speech" in my deffinition of it, because "expression" includes things like artwork, theatre, or even spitting (in the general direction) of someone, etc, but thats not how it seems to be interpretted by courts, and government.
Just to add a bit of information to the OP about "...no such thing as a right to free speech."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_speech_by_country#Canada
The constitutional provision that guarantees Freedom of expression in Canada is section 2(b) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. 2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:... (b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication
Due to section 1 of the Charter, the so-called limitation clause, Canada's freedom of expression is not absolute and can be limited under certain situations. Section 1 of the Charter states: The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society. (emphasis added)
This section is double edged. First it implies that a limitation on freedom of speech prescribed in law can be permitted if it can be justified as being a reasonable limit in a free and democratic society. Conversely, it implies that a restriction can be invalidated if it cannot be shown to be a reasonable limit in a free and democratic society. The former case has been used to uphold limits on legislation which are used to prevent hate speech and obscenity.[citation needed]
In the landmark Supreme Court of Canada case R. v. Zundel (1992), the court struck down a provision in the Criminal Code of Canada that prohibited publication of false information or news, stating that it violated section 2(b) of the Charter.
In April 29, 2004, Bill C-250 was passed which includes as hate speech propaganda against people based on their sexual orientation. It is now illegal to publicly incite hatred against people based on their colour, race, religion, ethnic origin, and sexual orientation. However, under section 319 on hate speech, a person cannot be convicted of hate speech "if the person can establish that the statements made are true."
Other laws that protect freedom of speech in Canada, and did so, to a limited extent, before the Charter was enacted in 1982, include the Implied Bill of Rights and the Canadian Bill of Rights. And more...
No, I don't believe so. the Digital Right Management nonsense is an API thing, so anytime the installer/application runs it will launch/access the API and associated applications...
not allowing auto-run only delays it from starting as soon as a CD is inserted.
Plus, an autorun.ini basically just points windows to A) the icon to display in "My Computer", and B) the setup.exe
Setup.exe when run will still use the DRM stuff, as for movies and music, well thats up to the player, WMP (et al) will still phone home/look for a key if the media its about to play is asking for it, regardless of wether it was "autorun" or not.
Especially considering those 3 months are during the summer, when people are generally watching less TV, reading less newspapers, don't really care whats going on they just wanna go swimming and have parties, or on vacation, and half of those paying attention are to lazy (from the heat) to bother doing anything... "i'd protest, but, I don't have enough iced tea"
Agreed, it seems to be about 20% faster on average, sometimes twice as fast for some things. And the Java improvements are great, Java apps even show up in the SpeedDial/Previews now too, properly.
Although, I immediately reverted back to my prefered skin, the new defualt one was...well... like playing with old block-style lego...
It seems to me, that they (whoever they may be) are trying to start a war of sorts... pinning country against country on the internet... to what gain, im not really sure, perhaps ultimately to create a UN (United Network?) for the Internet, or simply just to create more business trying to out-do other countries security, intelligence (as in the passing of information), and control of their public.
Yeah, and the reason for the divorce?
She's gaining weight and trying to control you.

Don't forget the dry ice, that takes care of cooling and any possible fires, plus it's great for parties, or re-enacting Star Wars, et al.

It might be where you are from (UK maybe?) Im in Canada, and it works fine, and I would assume that in the US it does aswell...
You could try...

same article.
"When a developer commits a file, it lights up and flies towards that developer."
Shit, that sounds kinda scary... flaming files chasing you around the office.

Until there was an article posted on Slashdot that is.
So, this is to prevent titties and clitties? And kitties too apparently... "enter registration code to see complete image"
Interesting, but... thats the only purpose I can see... other than just general "for the hell of it" programming.
They wouldnt know, but if you started cutting out pieces of your own brain and selling it at the street corner, its likely it would raise some eyebrows, and thats what this guy was doing, selling the mod chips.

"...invisible in browser usage statistics."
On the desktop, thats true, hovering around 1% share... but on mobiles (where Opera is generally more directed) its much higher than that.
But, im quite happy with it remaining small. Just above invisible, just below wide acceptance, although im expecting that to change with 10.x
Agreed, it seems to be about 20% faster on average, sometimes twice as fast for some things. And the Java improvements are great, Java apps even show up in the SpeedDial/Previews now too, properly.

No, that was true starting somewhere around Opera 4.5, and going till 7.02 I think... 8.x and 9.x doesnt have that...
That might be true, at the moment, until FF3.1 gets released, and there's an article for the RC, and then another for the release.
There's a story about most of the FF3 Alphas, each FF3 Beta, and its RC's and now its Release.
Plus...
"A Prieview of Opera 9.5"
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/09/03/1223217
Thats newsworthy, yet not the release? Although I expect the article to magically "appear" later today now...
