That's how a real terrorist would have done it

I haven't seen one piece of information that states that the Patriot Act or another infringement on our rights has improved our 'security'. You'll reply that we haven't had a terrorist attact in that time. You know what, you're right. You'll also notice that we've bombed or occupied most of the nations that aid these terrorist. These terrorist have also targeted sites closer to home (Israel, Saudi Arabia).

The FBI has ALWAYS had the power and authority to stop wrong-doers. What this legislation does is further remove the checks and balances that keep our government from becoming the tyranny we defeated over 200 years ago. Point: Pre-911 you want to tap a phone get an emergency warrant from a judge. Now you can just tap without impunity.

I could go on and but it will mean more if you look it up yourself!

Pardon the rant, but I'm sick and tired of the sheep hiding behind the 'its the government so its ok' or the 'if you're not doing anything wrong you have nothing to hide' arguments.

We've spilled alot of our blood to secure our freedoms and now we're pissing it away in the name of security. The FBI knew about the 911 attack. The bureacracy stopped the flow of information to the necessary people. Why don't the fools in Washington legislate THAT!

I think the parent post was supposed to be a joke. As for 'The best way to earn money is to reduce costs.', where is the income? Yes, you've reduced your overhead but you still aren't making money. By not having adequate and competent staff available you open yourself up to failure and/or buyout. If you can diversify and innovate, you can create a new market, thereby increasing income. To do that you have to spend a little money and ensure that the benefit outweighs the cost. It's sort of a no brainer but increasing income is the best way to make money.

The silver particles rubbing off in the mouth gave the user a little edge against bacteria.

  18. We are all just overhead on Is Today's IT an Undervalued Asset? · · Score: 0

IMHO, management is having a harder time selling the 'cool' new software because it costs money. Money is tight. We are in a recession. With the .bombs, the IT industry is having to return to earth. It is now just a department staffed by people with technical educations. Very similar to Engineering. (I can say that having been one). As an engineer, it is very difficult to get the things that you need because you have to justify the expense. Often, the money saved is intangible or you can't show it on a canned spreadsheet. The same can be said about software. For example (I'm just throwing this out), what money will be saved by migrating an existing application to Oracle 9 using Linux clusters. Finance has already written off the capital expense for the equipment and software in the first place. The data is being stored and people have their applications and can do their job. Why do I need to spend ~1 million dollars(US) to implement this solution? Because we won't have any down-time, says you. But we shouldn't have any down-time now, says management. Often, we being gear-heads can't explain the 'soft-money' benefits of new applications/hardware to accounting. We don't understand ROI and they don't understand what we need to 'do it right the first time'. Because we can't produce direct revenue we will be viewed as overhead and treated as second-class citizens in the corporate nation.
