I really hope you aren't a US citizen. If you are (please don't take this the wrong way) you consider reading some Thomas Paine and reviewing the US constitution. His making a video cannot be used against him in any way. Apperantly using a computer or having someone use a computer on his behalf was a violation of his parole. That is it. He can make 100 such videos if he likes. Anyone can.

I'm sure you can search youtube right now and locate videos of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or someone calling for the extermination of Isreal. I'm equally sure that you can find neo nazi propoganda on youtube as well if you look for it. As I said google is a private entity and can censor what they want but yes I find acts of censorship for all of the above to be objectionable and given a choice I would be a member of a video sharing community that allowed the distribution of all of the above.

I did recently switch to KDE and after some initial pains I'm finding that I like it quite a bit. It will probably be my new DE for a while now. I'm looking at new laptops though and seriously considering a macbook. I don't think I could bring myself to run OSX on a desktop but my next laptop? Maybe. Note I have absolutely no prior exposure to or fondness for OSX.

The constitution does not enumerate rights the government grants to the people. It enumerates rights the people grant the government. Agreed mostly. Businesses want support contracts for EVERYTHING and consumers for the most part want a consistent graphical environment the more easy and fisher-pricey the better. Most people might look at the OSX "you can only do it this way" environment and it gives them a feeling of comfort and security. To me it feels more like being sewn up in a blanket. Desktop Linux might always be slightly fringe but on the other hand if you're a kid that in the future would gravitate toward a career in IT or programming there isn't a better general purpose OS to use than Linux. That "mostly usable as-is but feel free to install these dozen other WMs and DEs" status many distros stay in gives you plenty of opportunity to learn and grow into something more than a user. If Linux users are switching to OSX I'd argue that most of them wouldn't be as competent as they are today if they has started in OSX community instead of Linux.

Well it may be that XFCE is becoming a little more bloated but that means its also becoming the defacto replacement to Gnome rather than some lightweight alternative with a little less functionality. I just installed it on a laptop recently and launched the file manager and typed smb:///share and it worked!. This is a little thing but it's one of the many little nitpicks I had with the DE in the past. Use to be whenever I tried xfce I had to use a file manager other than the default thunar or mount my shares. If I want super lightweight I can always install some window manager and have some little panel app auto-start on login but I want XFCE to be a little more bloated now because these days I need a replacement to Gnome not just a neat alternative. I want something sane I can use and also install on my parents desktop and Gnome 3 is not it.
