I live in the bastion of wilderness better known as the South Loop in Chicago, so I understand urban cell-tower issues. Physics would dictate that your LTE signal, at 700MHz, is going to be better than your CDMA signal at 1900MHz. Not to mention, the difference in speed means that it spends more time sleeping instead of at full power (more physics?). Try turning LTE off for a day. Your battery life will be much worse. That's why Apple could squeeze in a bigger screen, a faster CPU and more RAM with the same battery and get more hours of web browsing. Physics.
Your battery life is going to be better on LTE if you're in an area where the coverage isn't too spotty. LTE = terrible battery life is a 2 year old meme. It doesn't hold up now that we have integrated 22nm radios.
They did that after getting a bunch of 1900MHz spectrum in the failed AT&T deal. Their GSM service uses 1900MHz so between the two of those, and the fact that it's looking like LTE will be on 1700MHz in the US (they have a lot of that), it made sense to refarm their spectrum and not have to fight impossible battles to get phones on their network anymore.
All higher end GPUs have at least 3 outputs on them now. You don't need a special card anymore. My low-end Nvidia GTX 660 has two DVI, one DisplayPort and one HDMI.
The irony is that AT&T is having an enormous problem in downtown Chicago. The data service there is abysmal. Strangely, it's only AT&T. T-Mobile and VZ are just fine.
You need an ISP that is giving their customers IPv6 subnets (Comcast does, I'm not sure who else though), a newer router that supports IPv6 (everything that's current seems to) and Win7/WinVista/OS X post 10.1/Linux. It's zeroconfig from thereon out. I'm on IPv6 and it's been somewhat useful. I have a AAAA header on my domain so I can access my desktop without dyndns.
It's really all about your ISP though.
I'm sure the Souce engine code is extremely portable, judging by how well they run on Mac OS X. However the games require Steam, so they port Steam.
Source and Steam are one in the same - Steam has just been extended a bit.
DVD has DRM on it too. So does streaming video. Hell, VHS had some copy protection on it too.
I understand if you just refuse to consume any sort or media at all, and that's fine. But DRM being the reason Blu-ray is worse than DVD is asinine.
Also, the company that was doing the red-light cameras was based in Arizona. Once people found out that when your accuser is out of state, and won't show up to court, they stopped paying the tickets altogether.
UCLA and UC Irvine do their email in-house as well.. I'm sure it's just a University of California thing. So many smart people here, but so many dumb decisions are made every day.
To be fair, New York runs 10 car trains than run every 2-3 minutes and those are also very much so standing room only. It's just Denver not being remotely dense enough.
If you're in a major metro area, T-Mobile is by far the best and cheapest. They also let you tether with all their smartphones without an additional tethering charge. If you're in the boonies, it seems Verizon is the only way to go.
The IMR is never a good statistic to use because in almost every other country in the world, a baby has to meet certain conditions to be declared official "alive", and as such, those conditions have to be met to the baby to end up dying.
The US considers any baby that came out of the womb alive, and so any baby that dies adds to the IMR.
Lastly, we have a lot of minority groups that tend to be poor and have a very high rate of premature births. This is a double-edged sword in which they can't afford insurance and they're more likely to have a problem, whereas in Europe and most other countries with health care, societies are still very homogeneous and there isn't a high rate of prematurity. Sweden has 1/2 the premature birthrate of the US.
I'm from Chicago too, and it's not even a bad neighborhood. There are plenty of white yuppies that live right there. There's a difference between walking through a bombed out area and seeing mexicans and flipping out about how it's unsavory.

Intel writes their own firmware, they just use the SandForce controller. That's why Intel SSDs are rock solid and other SandForce SSDs are garbage.
Isn't that what the Slashdot editors are for?
Why the hell do you care?
It's a free mod for Half-Life 2. So, yes. Steam.

In his defense, widows is a word too.

Get a Nissan Leaf. Fully electric vehicles are exempt.

If everything north of I-80 were deemed a new state, most of Chicago's problems would go away too.
You can't call anything but the emergency numbers if you don't have credit.

An advanced degree is usually considered one that is post-graduate. A Ph.D, usually. Those are free.

I could've sworn that non-competes were illegal in California. States rights need to be preserved!
First it's the MacBook Air, then the Macbook. Why must Apple destroy Firewire?
