  1. Re:ssh tunneling on Security Fears Prod Firms to Limit Staff Web Use · · Score: 2, Informative

An even easier method of doing this is using the built-in SOCKS proxy in OpenSSH. Simply add "DynamicForward 3000" to your ssh_config file (or use the -D switch of the ssh command). After you connect, a locally accessible SOCKS proxy is then available on localhost port 3000, all nicely tunneled through the server. Set Firefox/Gaim/etc to use this port (be sure to use the SOCKS proxy settings and not HTTP) and you're set.

  2. Mondo Rescue on Amanda 2.5 Released · · Score: 2, Interesting

I know that Mondo Rescue supports spanning over discs of any size. It also supports differential backups. I personally use it for nightly backups. Setup is simple via command line switches, and restoring is done via a curses-based tool on the bootable iso. http://mondorescue.org/about.shtml

The first season of the Office is shown regularly on BBC America and I have heard rumors Season 2 will be shown soon (I hope!). You can also get season one on PAL (I assume it's PAL) DVD in the uk if you have a way of playing it in North America.

Season 2 will be out soon on dvd from what I remember.

Well I am the author of the mfsstream tivoweb module (used to extract shows in .ty format directly from a web browser which can then be converted to .mpg).

This is exactly why I've preordered the linux kit for the Playstation 2. It seems to do everything this box does and more (for $1300 less, assuming you already have a ps2):

black case: check (with matching black cd faceplate. wow!)
    40 gig hard drive: check
    cd/dvd drive: check
    optical out: check

    the "and more":
    ethernet card: check
    tv/out: check

Add a cdparanoia/lame frontend, and maybe a fancy auto-mount script or two, and you're all set.
