*I* have never had problems either, but the rest of the group I've been traveling with has. I must say though that that is a rather small part of my post, I'm still waiting on the three countries that have a popular opinion of the USA that is over 50%. (Also, did you actualy go to where there are people, or did you stick to talking to buisness people who were expecting you and/or tourist traps where being "well received" means they want your money. Note also, the amount we're hated is a fairly recent thing, about the last three years, before that it was about 50-50 split on those who loved us and those who hated us.
Oh, and just to be nitpicky, what the heck was that sentence structure? Face it, just because *YOU* have problems overseas, it's beacuse of *YOU*. I think "just because" would have been better replaced by "if" or "the reason". Oh well that is a minor point of on you as well, probably just tired, I make worse sentences fairly regularly.
Which explains why so many travelers are advised to say they are canadian pretty much anywhere except in china (Where they will hate you but are to oppressed to risk acting out on it), the UK (where the majority of the populace think G.W. Bush is a greater threat than Osoma Bin Laden) and a few islands that live off tourism (Where they'll hate you so will think nothing of overcharging for everything, but at least that is probably what you came for anyway). Americans are the parrias (spelling?) of the modern international world due both our bloodthirsty, self-serving imperalist government and due to our genearl arrogence (i.e. assuming everybody likes us without justification, and assumeing the world looks to us for leadership) as individuals. The fact that many countries consider us to be without moral values can't help either. I challenge you to name three countries that have a popular opinion of the US that is greater than 50%. I don't think you'll be able to. The US has been the subject of the largest international protest EVER, not even Adolph Hitler had as much of the world against him (until perl harbor, the US wasn't against him btw).
Try looking to the facts instead of self-afferming denial of reality. On second thought ignorance is bliss, stay happy, you're obviously near euphoria.
Well, it loads its OS faster than the PIII loads Windows. (Of course a Pentium I probably loads Windows XP faster than a G5 loads jaguar, so Apple probably doesn't want to use OS loading speed as a benchmark.)
In order for the revolution to be successfull there needs to be a fair amount of political support for it WITHIN the armed forces. Thus, when the revolution begins and the armed forces first tries to put it down, internal pockets of resistance will slow the army's assult enough for the citiznery to overpower the smaller power bases such as local police forces. The citizenry could then take control of the media, political engines, and thus the favor of the mindless masses. (ok that last discription was a bit of a trollbait, but you get the point) The masses would accept such a citizen's revolt much more than they would a full military coup.
Will it actualy work?
Not yet, not anytime soon, but eventualy it will happen. (My grandkids won't live to see it, but their grandkids might)
Do I truly beleive all I've written above, this post and the parent of mine? Sometimes I do sometimes I don't.
The whole point of the right to bare arms, is to allow the people to revolt against a despotic government. The problem isn't "if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" but "if guns are outlawed only the government will legaly have guns." There has not been a despotic government in heistory that did not attempt to hamper the citizenry (or peasantry's) ability to defend themselves, usualy by outlawing either the most common form of weapon or by outlawing all weapons.
Doesn't follow, because numerous studies have shown that violent video games do infleunece kids. However, even more studies have shown that having: parents who know what their kids are doing, parents who spend time with their kids, parents who model proper behavior, parents who talk with teachers about school problems etc. make an even BIGGER difference. Furthermore, what's the bet these kids were spanked? One of the surest ways of making your kids more violent according to the same institutes that publish the studies about the video games. hrmmm
Um so he's on record saying the game is for adults it carries a warning label saying it is for adults and yet you accuse him of playing "with the minds of children with the goal of enticing them to give their money to him..." please tell me how you can make a logical connection there. Oh wait, you can't nevermind.
And this is 2003, times change. Today geekdom values acheivement in the creation of new ideas, not the assimilaton of the old. This is a mixed blessing for sure, but it is the way of the past several decades. Although some geeks will memorize pi to lengths that require scientific notation just to write, it is considered much more of an accomplishment to make a new program that will figure pi faster, even if the programer can't do better than 3.14 from memory.
There is a difference in values today than when you were young. I hate that both values didn't survive, but they didn't and trying to make a value based argument, based on values that are so far from universal sets you up to sound irrational and possibly even antagonistic.
If you allow encryption, how do you ban commercial traffic? How can you tell an incrypted message isn't commercial? (Other issues such as acountability and national nay, international security aside)
Second Question First. If you have the brains enough to read slashdot, you can get a ham radio liscense. If you have a good grasp of electronic theory, all you'll have to study are a few regulations. Depending on your current level of knowledge assume 2 days to 2 months study time if you study while maintaining a busy life. I highly recomend ARRL's Now You're Talking for a study guide. It reads like a seventh grade science textbook which is good since that is about how easy the liscense is to get. Also there are online practice tests that help in your working on the tests. A good one is available from the following link. (The exam you want is the Technician exam). The liscense costs $15.00 and lasts for 10 years.
First question second. If it is a HAM radio, then yes, you need a liscene to transmit. (You can buy the device and listen without a liscense, or while you're working on your liscene). There are other radios that do not require a liscense, CB, FRS and GMRS being the most prevailant. CB's have almost the usefullness of some entry level ham radios, but you're not supposed to make contacts over 100 miles away (IANAL & I am not a CB operator) Also, Ham radios can be patched into the telephone system to make local phone calls from your radio, this feature is not available (or legal) on CB radios. Furthermore you are likly to find more tech savy people to talk to on ham radio and more truckers and rednecks on CB.
I strongly recomend, if you're intrested, to get your liscense, then purchase 2 radios, a HT (handheld transcever) for about $90 (I recomend Icom IC T2H sport, which uses AA over-the-counter batteries) and a higher powered mobile (read: car-mounted) rig for $150-$300, depending on how many different frequencies you want to be able to talk on. If you can't aford both, just get the HT, it will work ok in most areas but you won't have as much range but can be carried with you even when you're away from the car.
Hmm Cowboy Neal tends to lead the polls when the poll topic is something/.ers know nothing about or find irrelivant. Are you saying this is the case here? Personaly, I think it is more lilkly that, if a security breach is found, Linus Torvalds will win, only to be found ineligable due to his nationality. I only hope that whoever comes in second isn't RMS... (Great guy, not sure I want him as a president though.)
If money were to go missing, the person who should have the money would make a stink about it and track it down, especially if it was a significant amount. If the results of a secret ballot get screwed up, nobody will be able to prove it, ever. Banks almost always send out statements to customers, the customers almost always (should) check their statements against their personal records. If there is a decrepency they can call the bank for redress. The situations are completly different because there is no accountablity in voting, there is no way to know if there is a screw up, and if there is a screw up more is rideing on it than even banking errors.
Furthermore, if somebody found glaring holes in banking security, it WOULD be posted to/. and we WOULD be bitching about it.
Your first statement challenges the assertion made by the article. Thereafter, instead of supporting YOUR assertion, you give points to the article. You carfully explain that games are, indeed, made for a specific, and presumably small, demographic. The fact that you paint the people outside of the demographicly (rightly or not) as inferior is irrelavant as the article never said that the average joe isn't a brainless retard who still thinks digital watches are a pretty neat idea.
Imagine the aftermath if someone writes worm for THAT system. ("Sales of Depends up 600% along with household cleaners and air freshners") Ya know, the possibilities just about scare me shitless.
Beleive it or not, local Local Area Networks is proper usage. The first local meant local to Florida whereas the second refers to the network itself being in a small area.
Well without x it would be hard to spell exit. Thus whenever there is a fire, everybody will be unable to find the doors they came in through since they can't be marked "exit"
Serriously though, it depends on what it is that the community doesn't want and it depends on if the "offending" person had long time residence in the area. It also depends on what punitive actions are approved for someone doing x. If it is simply a statement of position, threre is never a problem, but if it is backed up it could have a problem. No noise after 9pm is rarly a problem but depriving someone of life, liberty, the ability to work where they wish (if a postion is open) due to elements of their lifestyle that are not detremental to any other person isn't what this Republic was founded for. That my friend is what we call tyrrany.

hmm 300 contacts, 800mb worth of mp3's approximates 240GB transfer. This repeated enough times could bring the 'net to a standstill.

Then at the time of this post you must have been 13. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

So I should name my virus dracocat.exe?
Hmm a beowulf of supercomputers in solviet russia running you and making you make hot grits for Natilie Portman... (What did I miss?)
Congratulations!
Or they know scientists invented the A-Bomb, Nerve Gas, mustard gass and the nutron bomb.

That last bit of the slogan wasn't from Orwell, it was from my sexual problems support group. Just for the record.

Congressman 1: Let me tax your memories
Congrasman 2: Why haven't we thought of that before?!
