  1. Re:Pardon the Rant on Mobile Game Ads on Ad Viewing Required For Free Zune HD Games · · Score: 1

One of things in the iTunes app store that is really getting on my nerves, is developer adding ads after the game is released. The progression goes: release a free game, wait until it is in the top 25 or gets popular, then create an update that includes ads.

This is exactly when I delete the app and give it a one star review. Quite convenient they give you that option while deleting an app.

If they're going to give me a free or "lite" app, don't jack me around later and try to turn me into a revenue model. Make a game good enough Im willing to pay a few bucks for the full version

Previous Starcraft games already implemented what you are talking about. You had to have a legitimate serial number to connect to battle.net and play online. It prevented pirates from playing online in any of their servers which would involve any competitions and the like. Sure (just like with SC2) they could create a reverse engineered server and play online, or they could do LAN or local play... I don't see this method decreasing piracy significantly, especially not as significantly as it'll decrease actual paying customers. Without LAN play I have no interest in the game when I was previously looking quite forward to it. Especially if I have to be online to take part in solo offline campaigns.

I played the demo of RE5 and I STILL hate the controls on the console. The one that did it best was RE4 on the Wii. No RE5 there though, and it'd be butchered graphically if it was.

When someone goes out fishing and catches something nice? MMS. When someone gets the first big snow of the season? MMS. When someone sees a movie and wants to encourage or discourage others? SMS. When someone goes out to a particularly nice restaurant, or maybe to a place that has significance to the family? MMS. Got a question that doesn't need answering immediately? SMS. Just finished a good book? MMS.

Funny... thats exactly what I use e-mail for on my phone... gives the added benefit of having it on a computer too to reuse. Also doesnt cost me an additional fee a month or per message...

I OCCASIONALLY text message but only because I get 200 free on my first gen... but why would you CHOOSE to send data by a means that charges you upwards of a couple hundred dollars per megabyte to close to a thousand depending on provider or plan.

I forget the site but someone did a little research on it and posted a graphic recently displaying the relative cost per MB of data and it was ridiculous how much it actually comes out to be for text and MMS. Data connections were the cheapest followed by voice.

Unfortunately Apple has pretty much ALWAYS charged a hefty sum for additional RAM and HD space on their machines. Even before they we're viewed as "cool" again. But as always nothing has ever stopped anyone from upgrading the machines themselves with third party hardware. At least some of the hardware is much more easily accessible for upgrades (RAM and sometimes HDDs). The whole "fashion" excuse these days is turning into the "games" excuse of last decade. Yes... popularity is TOTALLY a good reason to hate something beyond highschool. Not saying Apple doesnt have flaws (as the above article points out), just saying "seriously?" to some of the "because Apple is a fashion" and "because Apple is 'cool'" posts.

I'd tend to agree with you on all of this (not arguing the technical aspects), people tend to nitpick based on a technical difference they do not actually perceive. Unfortunately I've purchased one of these machines (from my understanding the 20" was using the better display panel and people were having problems with the 24", I seem to have been wrong), and while most of the time it's not noticeable, in any sort of design work (I do a bit of web design on the side, formerly as a day job) it really starts becoming apparent that the displays are incapable of displaying color (especially in gradients) even accurately enough for web work. Oh I still get by, but I get annoyed and end up playing around with calibration when I should be working trying to get rid of banding etc. I've been pretty frustrated with Apple's lack of a mid range headless system for a while now. A workstation class Mac Pro is really overkill for most graphic and web designers, in both specification and price. I finally gave in and purchased an iMac as it's specs met my needs (aside from the GPU, and now apparently the display). The news of this disappoints me a bit, as I didn't think I needed to be this concerned with researching the components used in Apple hardware. My next machine will still more than likely be a Mac, but I will be doing a lot more research components to make sure this doesn't happen to me again.
