    Exactly. They have pushed against testing/getting rid of bad teachers so hard for so long that the public final shoved back. Did we shove too hard in the other direction? Probably, but it seems like it is the only way to get any accountability. The unions have no one to blame but themselves.

    As I like to tell people, the word 'student' does not appear anywhere in the phrase "public teachers' union".

    ...and because you're golfing with the CEO of another company it's business meeting, so it's not a taxable benefit since it is for work.

    I really wish the IRS would make it so that you can only deduct things necessary for the business to function. There is no reason that you need to play golf with the CEO, or your latest client. Meet with them in a fucking office meeting room and stop using the business as a tax free credit card!

    Given that no one is offering you a higher salary, how can you say that the offers are 'lowballs'? It seems to me that you just don't want to accept the going rate for your particular skill set and experience.

    ...although it was mainly because I couldn't write quickly enough to keep up. And my writing was so sloppy, that trying to write faster made them incomprehensible to me later. I just learned to soak in as much as I could and refer to my textbook for help.

    One professor actually commented to the rest of the class about "...that guy that is so smart he doesn't even bother to take notes!" I decided not to tell him the real reason why I didn't take notes ;-)

    Agreed, but I'm trying to figure out where the poster said anything about 'living on credit'. Using your credit card to pay for things does not automatically mean you are living on credit.

    Because cops are automatically better than us.

    That's why they can constantly record you out in public, but the second you try recording them it, it's 'wiretapping' or 'interfering with police business'.

    That's why they can carry loaded guns, but the average citizen just can't be trusted to do the same.

    They can speed as much as they damn well please, because they are better drivers than you.

    I don't want to be the one to break it to him that texts are not 'spoken words'.

    Also, if he is OK with a text, why is he so against email? Email is an excellent way to transmit a lot of technical information. I hate when I have to call someone and speak a long model/serial number, or some random error message. An email makes sure there is no misunderstanding these types of things. It is also a much better way to keep records of what you need to do and what you have done. You can send to several people quite easily, and phone calls can waste a lot of time with the 'phone tag' that frequently occurs.

    What I do hate is the group email that you get stuck on, and everybody keeps hitting 'reply all', but I quickly figure out if I need this information or not, and start deleting them.

    If you are going to include the travel to and from the airport and any loading/unloading, you also have to include it in the calculation for the train trip. The train stations aren't going to be located at your front door, either.

    ...and it's still longer than the one hour flight. And at a cost of $98 Billion, you would be better off just using that money to pay for the airfares of everyone flying from SF to LA. And that assumes that it will actually still cost 98b by the time this thing is done.
