He was not communicating with them up to now. Before, he said that he wouldn't go to the ceremony. Now he just confirmed that he does not want the prize. Not breaking news, anyway.
I'm yet to see a millionaire programmer/designer/etc working for a big one. But I've seen thousands of execs. If that's the argument, I fail to see it.
on a side note, I have a xbox and a wii. I've chipped my wii so I can use pirated games, but I didn't do that with the xbox. Why?
Cooking mama it is. Or sega bass fishing. Or the other hundred crappy titles I happen to have tried for the wii, for no more than 20 minutes at most.
Yet, I still buy a lot of original games. I have mario galaxy, the new mario, several guitar hero and its full set of instruments, wii play, wii sport resort and so on. The wii costed me almost as much as a macbook pro. But if I didn't have modified the wii, I would get just fucked up with so many REALLY EXPENSIVE crappy titles for it a long time ago.
Having the option of pirating games and choosing what was good and what was bad before buying them is what made me keep the wii.
Besides, it was bricked by my ex-wife applying the updates without reading anything. TWICE.
Not only that. Thing is, there are people actually DEVELOPING GAMES for the wii! Can you imagine that?
Ever tried to get the wii sdk? The official one? They won't let you. And if they do, it will cost you a buck and you gotta be a "already known and well-established game developer".
With this attitude, the only people they attract is the big fish. Wonder why the xbox indie and the iphone are doing so well?
It is exactly what we were gaming for years. The gimmick of adding perspective and focus to an image is as far as we can get to 3d in a flat screen. As long as both eyes receive the same image, of course.
The only new thing here is that they are trying to sell these so-called 3d screens. And you know what is their innovation? It's called interleaving. They show one image for each eye, with the old pal flicker.
Try attaching a 3d blu-ray to a 2d tv set. You will see both images, one after the other. Both with half the original resolution.
No, thanks. My current tv is good enough. I don't need to split its image and get a headache just for sony to release a new 3d hd screen in five years, with less flickering.
could you please explain this to me a little more, as you would for, say, your wife (supposing she does not develop mac os' kernel extensions, too)? This is not a provocation, it's just the fact that for the first time in my life, the mouse movements felt "natural" were on a mac machine. I've been using mice since the 80s with a 256x192 screen (a msx: the mouse didn't even had the ball - the wheels touched the surface), and it always felt, don't know how to say, ackward. Windows feels strange to me, linux feels just weird. But OS/2 actually felt a little better.
So I would like to understand the question a little bit better, if possible.
The sweet spot for screens is said to be 300dpi. Being higher than that, it's said that your eyes are not able to distinguish individual pixels anymore. Hence the name. So yes, it's marketing-onyl, probably
Actually, the OP is onto something. Recreating existing equipment on the cheap, be it for the american healthcare system or for the underdeveloped world.
Someone devised a way to more efficiently collect water with some clay boxes for africa. Other created a water heater using pet bottles and black paint. They are making a difference.
Have a look where Bill Gates is working, for instance.
Right from memory I have the Ati Radeon X1300 with 512mb ram. Windows says 3d is out - ati says it is in legacy mode and will not have drivers for win 7.

I like receiving flowers from my girls. What's with that?
What, a MARRIED mathematician? That's a breakthrough.
BTW, what happened to MS Surface? That seemed pretty cool.
Not ALL of them. The Xbox 360 is really great.
So you are giving relationship advice here on /. ? Seriously???
So the ps3 is the most attractive console for developers, by this logic.

It is not, when you are using a standard tv or when it is the only device you have. Besides, is not that you download hdtv movies all the time anyway.
Where in the world except for microsoft the languages is relevant for fixing up bugs or securing the CODE?

Weird. 10.6.3's safari shows 113 here, and a more recent webkit, 137: http://yfrog.com/j4skitchdj

cof *regedit* cof!
So, why did they release Snow Leopard with nothing visually new, but only efficiency improvements?
... for the multi-core era.
Too bad it is not microsoft: http://www.top500.org/stats/list/34/osfam
Come on, this is slashdot. Everyone has sex with themselves here, several times a day.
Step 3:...
Step 4: Profit!
Actually, as most discussion in slashdot, it somehow derived to bashing windows. Which is quite a free pleasure, if you ask me.
X300 is not the same card as the X1300. My one does not have the "bling". It performs really bad with W7, and refused to have any 3d capability on W7.
The only conclusion I can draw is that your hardware is slightly different of mine. Anyway, I don't care anymore.
