Yes, I was going to recommend plausible deniability as well.

Here's a little more info about how it works. Basically, you set up a container and a hidden volume. Each has its own passphrase. To open the hidden volume, you use its passphrase when opening the container. To open the container with dummy data, you type its passphrase. It's very simple and quite hidden if done correctly. To be safe, it's best to access the hidden volume from a live CD so the OS doesn't break your deniability by storing temporary files or "recently accessed documents" etc.

However, there is one big note of caution. Do not back up the container. Ever. An attacker could look at the change over time and determine there is a hidden volume. That's probably too paranoid for your case but it's worth mentioning.

I wouldn't say everyone is moving away from Windows, my last job was very Microsoft centered. Windows workstations everywhere, Exchange server, IIS servers, Microsoft SQL, Active Directory, all that bullshit.

But, I do think anyone using Windows is very unlikely to use Perl; they just seem diametrically opposed. One being used for Unix administration since large systems were in their infancy, and the other one being a the-suits-picked-it decision. At least in my (very biased) opinion.

Not only is the sensationalist article/summary only pertinent to uncompressed bitmaps, TrueCrypt has warned their users about backing up hidden volumes for a long time (source). In fact, it's the first precaution in how to keep your hidden volume secure.

So people worrying about steganography on TrueCrypt volumes shouldn't, they've been telling you how to keep these volumes secure already.

We can only hope that the popularity of netbooks will slim down web apps and speed up JavaScript implementations. There's so much bloat that some websites feel slow (after fully loading of course) on my Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM. That's just unacceptable and we can all reap the benefits if netbooks lower the performance expectations of web developers. Nowadays hardware is cheaper than good development, but a little extra development can go a long way.

    Good for you.

I drive over 120 km/h very rarely. I don't care if my car can go faster than that since I, like everyone else I represent, barely ever go that fast. Speed is overrated, let's just not invest any more into it.

Except some people want to go faster (Autobahn), and there are some special cases where this is a requirement (racing).

Just like in the PC world: a lot of people actually turn off their computers (gasp! the horror!), and in some cases fast booting can be a requirement (embedded devices etc.)

I only restart with major problems or kernel updates as well, but I am really psyched about the possibility of a 10 second boot on my non-ssd laptop. And as mentioned in the article, I'm sure the OpenMoko (and similar projects) people are excited about it.
