As little as I like agreeing with ACs, this was my exact thought upon reading TFS. I know this is News For Nerds, but let's not pretend getting data centers back up is more important than rebuilding an area that's been severely decimated (and not in the Roman 10% way).
Oh, so you know every gradual dip on every road in vicinity of your house? Doubt it. In many cases, what appears to be a puddle can be several more inches deep. And unless you brake quickly (as in slam on the brakes; not a good idea in rainy or wet conditions), hitting even 6 inches of water quickly will splash up enough water to stall the engine. Or, hey, maybe everyone else is just stupid.
Deep water looks like shallow water. So when you see a puddle, it could be much deeper. When you drive through water that is more than 2" deep, it could have been much deeper. Most people who drive through deep water thought it much more shallow. Because deep water looks like shallow water. I can't make this any more simple.
You NEVER know the depth of water. If you've ever driven through a puddle, count yourself as an idiot. That could have been much deeper, and you wouldn't have known. See point 2 above.
That's why I always buy sheets with vertical stripes. As long as the stripes are going foot to head, instead of side to side, the sheet will always fit.
Nonstop coverage of something that doesn't affect me? Yes, because I couldn't watch real news.
By all means, please tell us what other news doesn't affect you, so we can remove it from the world's news post haste!
Here in Wisconsin, we'd be outside tailgating in a class 1 storm.
Yes, I imagine you get quite a few class 1 HURRICANES in Wisconsin, don't you? And the class just refers to the speed of the wind, not the size or how long it lasts. This is an extremely powerful storm, which would explain why all the weather forecasters say not to pay attention to what class this one is.
As for the boat, I'm no sailing expert but don't you typically not take low tech replicas of old ships sailing in a hurricane?
I'd hate to let the mere fact that you don't know anything about boats keep you from judging people who do, but maybe the fact that all the boat owners in the world didn't consult with you beforehand should be an indicator. As other slashdaughters have pointed out, keeping your boat in dock can be very dangerous. So many people took their boats out to sea to weather the storm. But this being a very powerful storm (see above), some didn't do so well. It could be have been worse in port though.
My first thought was that she meant there were people hiding in stalls to spy on people, as in listening to people talk in the bathroom. But your comment makes more sense. I guess I'm just paranoid.
I collect dead social networks.
That answers my question why you're on slashdot.
/ducks
I, for one, welcome my beer! Thanks, robot underling!
Nice sig. That was one of my favorite shows growing up.
Grammer than what?

I swear the next person that says shenanigans I'm gonna pistol whip!

How the fuck do you plan to avoid a FLASH flood, there genius?

Or an eyelash.
More like Dada. Keep that away from real art, lest they annihilate each other.
Yeah, it's like the weather rock I had as a kid.
If rock is wet, it is raining.
If rock is white, it is snowing.
If unable to see rock, it is foggy.
What about a beowulf cluster of raspberry pi's? Mmmmmmmmmmmm pi.
Reminds me of one of xkcd's funniest comics:

Also, frosty piss apparently. It's OK, you can mod me down. I've got karma to burn.
The story reads like some perverse blend of James Bond and the Pink Panther.
Well, TFS reads like a chinese instruction manual. What the hell? Piracy dealers? Discover the identify?

A renewable resource of almost unlimited potential! We can just consume more and throw it all in the garbage when we run low!
This painting, and the photo/video by which it was inspired, were my first thoughts as well.
Yes. All of them. I agree.
Funny. That's what we think about all the wildfires, earthquakes, and snowstorms west of the Mississippi.
What about if it blends, runs linux, or what it does in Soviet Russia?
