Actually the solution is simpler then that. Create a new network, and put an EULA on it forbiding member of the legal profession as well as sharing information with members of the legal profession including goverment. The minute they violate that rule sue them for everything they have. As the organizer you have the rights to violate your own EULA so do it. It wouldnt be a bad idea to target spammers at the same time in the same way.
If you own a land-line phone, you are charge for the phone service.
If you are in England, and you buy a TV, and then have to pay the "rates" to use it.
If you buy lights, you still need to pay for electricity to use them.
Starting to see a pattern here? It does not matter where you are from, a lot of things are split into "purchace cost" and "maintainence cost". EQ is just one more example.
I can return the phone, I can return the Tv, I can return the lights if I dont agree with anything I consider barbaric about there fair use like having to pay for electricity. I can modify the phone, the tv, or lights, Say I bought it in england and took it to the US id have to change the plugs and voltage.
Now adays you cant return software. There are a few places where you can but the vast majority of them will not except open software returns. If I bought everquest at best buy, took it home, and decided i didnt like the EULA and tried to take it back they would say "You opened it, we cant accept it". Now the caveat for me is I live in virginia and anything bought via credit can be returned within 48 hours for any reason so yeah I use my credit card and get the manager down and threaten call my lawyer on the phone and they accept it as long as its within 2 days but I learned about doing that the hard way and if my lawyer wasnt my friend he would charge me for the service. EULA's not posted on the outside of the box are invalid by default. I bought the product without agreeing to an eula, If it said something on the box i didnt agree with I wouldnt have bought it. Since I cant return it its mine. I can do anything I want to with it. My agreement is between best buy and myself. Not with sony or verant or anyone else. I agreed to follow the rules on the outside of the box, Pay best buy for the product and eventually leave the store with it and the 10 other things I bought i didnt really need. Until companies accept EULA based returns EULA's are completely invalid and If some software company sues me over them I will be happy to sue best buy over failing to inform me of the details on the outside of the box. Its that simple, Fair trade includes the ability to return, ecspecially when you cant find out the rules until you already cant return it. So if sony wants to call best buy and tell them to go ahead and accept everquest returns I'll be happy to follow there EULA, there only other option is a page on the outside of the box. Other then that its invalid.
> 6. We may terminate this Agreement (including your Software license and your Account) immediately and without notice i
So if they ban you they terminate the agreement and all parts within are null and void. You can then write server emulators.
I disagree that it wasnt a bug. What you have is defined verticese on a surface. So you know where the wall begins and they seem to check this. But they seem to be treating monster objects as 2d or as all the same size which would speed up the code. Humanoid monsters dont hit you through walls. Lions and bears do. They are longer. When they hit the external vertex of the wall they stop but because they are either checked like a human or treated as 2d there body sticks through the wall and they can hit you. I think they did it for the tradeoff in speed. if you have to caculate all 3d vertices on an object you increase the ammount of processor time required to do it. This has an end result of increasing the minumum system requirements of the game. I think and dont quote me they shot to support p200's when the game released, That machine doesnt support async threads, Its significantly slower then say a pentium 3 which is able to handle 5 instructions at a time. When you release a game you have to give some leway to slower machines or you decrease your market. Yes ive been studying game programming for a few weeks and while im not an expert Im coming along nicely so I have a new found appreciation for this.
I was 16 when someone offered me a position admining a Novell network and 50 pcs, I started on my 16th birthday and my 30th is happening next week. On salary and bonus this year I am making 135K, last year was 120, not to mention what Ive made off stock options. College can teach you basic skills but to be perfectly honest IMHO its an excuse to spend 5 or 6 years living on your parents dime learning stuff that is mostly not relevant. Ive taken a few classes here and there and most have been useless. Id rather take a 1 week class on a product taught by a vendor then I would some college professor who hasnt actually worked in the industry since computer repair involved changing vacume tubes. Im not saying there arent a few classes of merit and by all means if they appeal take them, but view it as personal improvement not an excuse to get a degree. While you spent your 4-6 years getting the degree I was out getting the actual experiance and in the end the experiance pays much better then a piece of paper you can hang on your wall. Training certifications are cool but they dont actually mean you know the product. I could name a hundred MCP's who couldnt figure out simple ip addressing on a windows box. I say through an extreme networks class and came out with the knowledge that they were a pretty shade of purple as well. Not every class is useless in any scenerio. If your gonna take classes make sure you need the skills but dont bank on college to carry you.
And now my rant on GE classes. History, English, math ad naseum. WHY? ok, I may not be the best speller but I own a spell checker. I dont really care when george washington crossed the deleware. If I do it ill be in a power boat not a paddle boat and if people are shooting at me I sure wont be stupid enough to stand on the bow but I think I could have figure that out without studying about. History is good if your a historian or intrested in the area of history but its actual appliation is to waste more time. I colleges just taught what was needed to do your job well then maybe my opinion will change but for now I still think its a waste.
Ive been working for 14 years, Ive been through countless interviews over time and most ask me for NDA's. I usually ask for the mutual NDA just to be safe. When i Interview people I always ask for the NDA. I have a very casual interview style and while I do have a list of questions I ask I often talk about what the company is doing. In most of the cases I treat an interview as a chance to convince someone that the company Im working for is a good company. I dont bring in anyone who I wouldnt hire on the spot provided they can answer my basic nontechnical questions. As an employer I need to make sure the employee is going to be the right fit. I want at least 2 years out of anyone I hire. Believe it or not thats a pretty lofty goal in the IT field. To get a good feeling of wether the person will stay I have to tell and sometimes show the prospect what were working on. That means I need the NDA. I always do a mutual NDA for my interviews because they may be working on some open source project or something and I dont want my staff trying to steal there ideas and profitize them. A NDA is to protect company trade secrets, This is not to say that if im running a firewall with X rules the interviewer cant take the firewall ideas elsewhere. It is to say they cant steal our r&d work. The companys products are protected. Upper management is happy. If you dont want to sign an NDA you dont come in for an interview. I make that clear on the phone interview. I also always interview on fridays after 3 so it can be an interview over beer:)
First, apologies to non us readers, I refrence the US as ours only because of ease and the fact that most of the readers here are US citizens.
Isnt it about time we solve the problem by ousting our current goverment? The constitution garuntees us the right to do it. Are we just to lazy? We are losing this battle against the legal systems and the corperates on every front, napster, decss, sites being shutdown cause they say stuff corperate lawyers dont like. IMHO there are more of us then there are of then. We are yielding to a moral minority. We have tried it there way. But we are the majority. Is it we fear the military reprucusions? Most of them are 17-25 years old and spend there spare time on napster too. I dont even use napster myself but Im sick of seeing the corperate world pushing people around. I think its time to replace our existing goverment with something better. Time to get rid of some the lawyers who block lifes progress. If you just look at the tax system which is far to complex for anyone to figure out it shows it needs replacement. Running a goverment isnt as challenging as they make it out to be. The only reason it is at all challenging is all the lawyers. Its time for change. Lets get rid of the old in favor of the new. I stopped using my 386 and bought a new machine when it became obsolete. Hell, my pentium 90 went obsolete so I upgraded again. Goverment shouldnt be made an exception to
the upgrade process. If its obsolete throw it away and get something that does the job. Our goverment is obviosly obsolete.
Hes not being asked to give away his sources. Hes bieng asked to come forth and testify that everything is true. On that note I would go forth. Say it is all true, and then simply take the 5th on anything else. There gonna force him into court anyway. Hes gotten a decent deal to say simply wether its true or he lied (yeah right hes gonna say that). He doesnt have to give real names, he doesnt have to give addresses. Not really alot of integrity to comprimise there is there? Did you lie? No, ok, no more questions.
We all suffer from moral integrity against the law. I know as a sysadmin I have been asked to monitor peoples email. Company HR and Legal insist that they have a right by law to read employee email and they are probably right. Morally however I will not do it. I refused and gave notice over it and they backed down but I would have left and eventually did over other stupidity (mainly being told they wanted to implement lotus notes). Each field has its own moral integrity with the exception of Lawyers and Marketing people. You choose your job and you choose your morals. I know I wouldnt speak to a reporter who didnt follow the code of protecting his sources just as I wouldnt use a mail server who didnt follow the code of not reading other users email.
> What gives you (or anybody else for that matter) to decide what mail should or should not be allowed? Actually what gives me the right is the fact that A: I pay for all of my own domains B: I own the servers they reside on C: I run my own dns servers and D: Its my fucking mail server. I dont have to accept anything I dont want and Never will have to. If they courts say I have to accept mail from someone Ill allow my server to recieve it but block traffic at the firewall. If they say i have to lift that Ill accept it and deliver it to/dev/null. As long as I am the server admin I will make the determination who can use my machine. Unless there paying for my CPU cycles which there not I dont have to accept it. The minute I am forced to accept it they will get a cpu cycle bill which I will take them to court over. I already sent one fax spammer to collections over an unpayed bill for fax fileing. Ill be happy to do it to mail spammer too if there dumb enough to sue me and provide me with a buisness address.
Im use MAPS on all my mail servers. In my opinion its a great service. Unforntunatly for yesmail there suit has forced me to add them to my manual filters for my domains. With MAPS they can answer the complaints of the people an actually be removed. I dont remove anything Ive added. Gone forever is yesmail from the ability to send mail to myself or any of my mail users. If they wont work with maps, I wont accept them. I suggest everyone else just block as well.
Its an intresting article but in the end would you really want a 16-17 year old working in the slaughterhouse either? Considering you start as a sweeper. Someone who pushes piles of guts and bloods into grates and move up to a renderer. The person who uses high pressure hoses to tear the lips, meat, skin and brains off of the head of the cow which is used to make feed for cows (eep, canibal cows, remember there herbavores to start with) and food for cats and dogs. This is one step below the institutional meat the allow humans to eat (read as taco bell). Im 30 and I personally would want myself working in a slaughterhouse either. Im not a bleeding heart liberal or a vegitarian, I still eat veal without a pang of guilt. Hell, Could you imagine having your legs ripped off? Thats what happens to most vegitables like carrots when they are pulled from the ground.
My point is this if i even have one. Slaughterhouses arent exactly the best place for anyone except perhaps a masochist or movie director. When it comes to violence in video games I hardly even notice it. Some would say ive been desensitised and perhaps that is true, but I also know its not real. I havent played soldier of forture but Im betting money the violence would have little effect on me. The slaughterhouse on the other hand allowed me to add puke to the list of things those young slaughterhouse sweepers get to clean up. Having said that I'll stick to diablo 2 for a while. Oh no, my amazon is shooting arrows and the big boss exploded in a pool of blood. Now this violence i dont agree with mainly cause it can conver up magic items making them hard to find.
In reality this was the message of Southparks Bigger, Longer, and Uncut. Mrs Cartman that dirty bitch said it herself. Remember what the MPAA says "Horrific Deplorable Violence is ok, as long as we dont use any naughty words." Canadians were supposed to be evil in the movie cause the naughty words were ok but not the violence. Its a sad world we live in.
Sure we make more then a teacher with 15 years experiance if you look at it on a one for one but thats not the truth. My kids teachers work 8 to 2:30 every day. Not even an 8 hour day. They also have nearly 3 months of for summer and 2 weeks off in winter. This doesnt sound anything like 60-80 hours a week 52 weeks a year. Teachers may have to put up with 30 children but marketing and sales people are worse. Id kill for a teachers vacation time but its not possible and Im not going to college to get certified as a teacher cause its honestly a waste of time. Ill bank on my stocks, and retire early.
We use multiple facilitys in our work. It depends what you want. Do you want someone else to manage your hardware and software? We do our own maintenance and have found that we get the best connectivity from Above.net and Globalcenter. Exodus is ok but they want to manage your stuff for you. So far for pure colocation I have had the best experiance with Above.net. This is not to say that any facility has been up 100% of the time but the few outages above.net has had have been the smallest ive encountered. There noc monkeys can flip a power switch and plug in a keyboard and type a few commands and even swap tapes but thats about as far as they go on service. They use open alluminum racks for almost all there customers. Larger sites can buy cages (i think 4 racks is the smallest). They have good geographic dispersion and will work with you to multihome if your looking at it. Globalcenter will also do this and uses the same alluminum racks. Both have good physical security as well. Bandwidth in either facility is good however it seems globalcenter oversubscribes there generators which is bad if the power goes out for a long period.
Actually every invention clause ive ever seen in an offer letter allows exclusions. You should have listed it as an inclusison. They could still make you keep there changes private but what your doing in your own spare time is yours if you excluded it.
Do you really think a few people with guns would make much of a difference?
A few people, no. A few million people, yes.
Call me crazy but a small number of people with guns and brains has made a difference in the past. They call them terrorists at first and then when public opinion sways or they win they are called revolutionarys. The problem lies in when a bunch of morons have guns, Maybe we should have people have to register there guns with Mensa. If every yahoo has a gun you have organized chaos or potentially disorganzied. The revolutionary war was not won by everyone having a gun but my a united bond to follow the leaders and conscription. If a revolt is to happen the sheer number of guns doesnt matter or the number of people. Its the thought behind it, how it is planned. As seen with fall of russia a coo can happen with only a small ammount of shots fired. Personally I think the current US goverment will collapse under the weight of its own beuracracy sooner or later if it has been replaced by a corperation. We need to start by organzing a mail campaign where everyone sends a snail mail registered letter to there congressman and senator. Registered mail has to be signed for, If they have to sign a 5 or 10 thousand reciepts odds are they are gonna be curious and there no gonna forget what were protesting. If someone here speaks polotics and wants to write said letter about illiminateing the DMCA ill be happy to send my copys off. It was $1.25USD to send a registered letter last time I looked and will certainly get there attention if we can organize it mass. The trick is to make more noise and let the senators and congressmen know we can make there life more miserable then the corperate intrests can and then they will cave.
I can just see it now. Mood keyboards...... new way for those pinkerton folk to find potentially dangerous kids at school? My boss can keep an eye on me to see if im happy in the workplace. Its the end of the world as we know it, I feel fine.....
Got mine at a rand macnally store in a mall, Im sure there webbound too. Mine does like 14 languages. They have a few different models each with a different set of languages. Price was around 50 bucks for like 20K words in each. Enough to get you to the bathroom in alot of place. Fortunatly it does english to english cause i get confused alot when i leave the US and go to the UK.
