Lol... The spellchecker guy mis-spelled his own spelling. The English grammar is a beast that contradict itself. Unlike programming, where the rule is constant, English grammar is a variable changing with time, location and context. Not very reliable I would say. As a tool, English fails.

Next the University can charge the **AA for overhead + installation + administration + server + stamp + bandwidth + maintenance + software + network. In the end, the University won't have to pay anything because they post a loss in sales.

How about I just take your latest source code and market it as my own?

You're welcome. Isn't that the whole point of having it GPL. I wouldn't mind you becoming a billionaire on my software, as long as you get the citation correct and redistribute the codes.

I happen to be of the opinion that copyright is a real property right

Agreed... I yearn for the time when copyright is short and extending it requires parliament approval. Look at what James Watt have to do to obtain an extension for his steam engine:

    From wikipedia:

An extension of the patent was successfully obtained (James Watt's Fire Engines Patent Act, 1775 (15 Geo 3 c. 61), which in those days required an Act of parliament.

That way we can be sure each extension is actually necessary and contributes to public good.

I always make it a policy to do misleading documentations whenever I was contracted to do an underpaid job.

Afterwards, I'll get whatever degree I deserve and make a new software with some new features, cleaner documentations etc.

As far as I can remember, the only thing fun or exciting is when the teacher issued a challenge or quiz. Most of the fun I make is on deriving all those stuff they ask you to memorize.

Most people forget that teachers are supposed to be just a guide. You should learn everything by yourself and ask for help only when you're stuck.

A computer is great as a helper. It really speeds up the calculation especially when your only objective is the answer. Knowing how to solve it mathematically however is the one that will increase your original publications. Computer don't have creative process, programming teaches some creative thinking style but the ultimate creativity tool is math.

The old style emphasize too much memorization, the new style lessen the amount of memorization but substitute it with a lower scoring scale. The problem however are not the high school, it is the elementary school. The old style focus too much stuff to learn at high school but the elementary are taking quite a relaxed stride. We should disperse the syllabus a little. Allowing ample time for students to study it without having to memorize.

The current system of teaching only basic arithmetic and reading for 4 or more years are simply absurd. Most student have decent grasp of that subject after 2 years. Some subjects could also be skipped periodically. I propose a system that teach redundant subject such as English for grade 1, 2, 3, 5 , 7, 9, 12 only. Those credits are better devoted to other subjects.

Yup, the third party work isn't GPL if what he does is take two source and link them together only. I wouldn't even say that he owns any of the work and surely cannot apply any copyright for that. Using is not modifying the codes.

The definition of all 'subsidiary works' in that context is to modify or fork the original/modified codes. Even if he makes a new program, he is only using the codes from 2 licenses. He has no copyright on any of the two. You only obtain a GPL license for modifying a code that is GPL-copyright or make your own from scratch.

As a response, I cannot believe that the third-party can even apply for copyright. If he did here is some from provison from the license.

You may not propagate or modify a covered work except as expressly provided under this License. Any attempt otherwise to propagate or modify it is void, and will automatically terminate your rights under this License (including any patent licenses granted under the third paragraph of section 11).

  22. Re:Anonymity on Multi Theft Auto - San Andreas Goes Open Source · · Score: 0

GPL is a valid license. If the originator of the source already obtain a GPL license, then automatically all subsidiary works is GPL too. You cannot claim any of the code is yours. To apply for GPL license, the originator usually applied for a copyright using real name of course. After that, all subsidiary works become GPL automatically. The holders of GPL works are not all anonymous. FYI some of them have real copyright for that work.

DCMA is moot point for open source projects. Not a lot of projects are in a website that you can pull down anytime, most of them are in sourceforge or in IRC.

The great thing about working open source projects is that most are anonymous, so you can easily set up a new channel in IRC. You cannot sue anonymous person. You need at least have his real name and address. The few not anonymous person has real copyright for their codes, so you can't sue them too.
