...and with the vested interest that the landed aristocracy had (and continues to have) in tarnishing his reputation, how do we know any of that wasn't a complete and utter fabrication? Regardless, it definitely serves as a strawman, since it doesn't address any of his points.
Frankly, I would've expected more from a supposed "critical-thinking fellow conservative" but then again, you distinctly come across as a privileged "European-type" conservative, as opposed to a conservative in the Jeffersonian sense...
I understand your argument from a moral and ethical perspective; no one ever said that Karl Marx lacked a conscience. The problem lies in implementing a system that enforces "equality" on everybody; it's the enforcing part that the rest of us have a problem with.
It isn't self-restraint; they're stressed-out, confused, distracted, overfed, under-nourished, medicated to the gills... and on top of that, they're just the same Americans that they were 40 to 60 years ago. We've become stupid, rude, lazy, self-destructive, incredibly gullible and profoundly easy to manipulate. More and more like the peasants that the uber-elite see us as...
the American and British pilots are reduced to one-way communication, from the Brits to the Yanks.
That's okay; if the grammar and vocabularly of today's 20 and 30 year old Americans are any indication, our boys need to just shut the fuck up and listen.:p
not to mention the security and infrastructure that your current government provides
That sounds great on paper and while I have no doubt that it applies to countries like those in Scandinavia (for what I suspect are cultural reasons, as much as any other), it doesn't stand up to the test here in the States. Our courts have ruled that government has no legal obligation to provide us with security (actually, it's hell-bent on preventing us from providing it ourselves) and as for infrastructure... I guess you haven't seen our roads, bridges, schools or experienced our options for Internet access lately...
Guns certainly don't automatically guarantee rights (hell, look at the States for God's sake)... but they can certainly be used to protect them; why else would the ultra-wealthy industrialists who run the world be so bloody anxious to disarm everyone else??
(We can (and will) argue this one until we're blue in the face; meanwhile, history'll keep on repeating itself... and the next chapter isn't going to be pretty...)
Oh, and to all the brainwashed, pro-establishment fascist nitwits who've been convinced that what they need is for the government to step in and protect you from yourselves, all I have to say is... ah, fuck it; there's no point.
(To all the religious nuts on the "right" who agree with me... trust me, that's the only thing we agree on!)
A lot of people forget that the population of China is what, 1/5th the world's population?
As such it would make statistical sense that around 1/5th of attacks they see are from China.
LOL! Only if you (quite mistakenly) assume that all places worldwide have an equal percentage of hackers.

Vote from the rooftops
That was only effective until December 17, 1903...

It is like those holding the reins want to create terrorists
It's reportedly a lot cheaper than hiring and training them yourself.

Oops, that should have read "they're just not the same Americans..."

Considering that pesticides kill far more people in the western world than guns do; I think we should definitely ban FarmVille... :p

...Americans have serious trouble with long-term thinking these days.
Hell, we can't even handle short-term thinking; have you seen the way we drive? Heard us even speak?
there will wars on earth over rocks in space
There might even be wars on rocks over earth in space (dirt'll could be hard to come by, out there). :p

They have human rights.
