Slashdot readers will remember that I was victim of medical malpractice in Québec. For anyone who would like to read my story, I posted it on ratemds.com.
People write that Monster cables are overpriced but Nintendo cartridges stop working because of rust, I think. So what is a middle ground between cables that rust and cables that are overpriced?
Meanwhile goverments are clamping down on medical malpractice lawsuits. See for example this page.
It has been argued that piracy can cause innocent people to lose their jobs. But which is worse: losing your job at a record company or being the victim of a botched surgery?
I am in Québec and I was the victim of an *intentional* aggression by a surgeon that left me with a handicapped left arm. I am in the process of complaining to the medical college. I could not file a lawsuit because the system in Québec in biased against malpractice victims. This makes it so that surgeons can intentionally butcher anyone they dislike for whatever reason.
I just realised: it is possible to put a camera in a TV that uses the lens that seems to be for the infrared remote control. It is technically difficult but not impossible. Question that remains is, has it ever been done?
I have seen spy cameras disguised as other things. For example a wall clock with a black dot that happens to be a spy camera.
Linux is not communism. Part of the appeal of Linux is that Microsoft abuses its monopoly to eliminate competition (OS/2, BeOS, Wordperfect, QuickTime, etc...). By defending competition, freedom of choice and a free market, Linux defends capitalistic ideals. And people are allowed to sell Linux: SuSE does just that.
Does the New England Journal of Medicine have an analysis about which plan is better for victims of medical malpractice or human rights violations?
I read a quality review at a hospital that found that people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia in their medical records going into an unrelated physical surgery had twice the probability of ending up with a deep vein blood clot and twice the probability of becoming infected and dying. What recourses would the victims or their families have?
Parts of ZFS are patented, but the license allows running it in userspace using FUSE.
I'm confused: if we ask people why not run ZFS using FUSE, they reply because it's slow (I'm assuming it's possible to load ZFS at boot time using an initrd). And if we ask people which is better monolithic or microkernel, they reply microkernel. But ZFS using FUSE would be like a microkernel driver, so which is it?
At the university we had cheap plastic PC speakers and I listened to them without turning them up. Now I purchased $130 THX-certified Logitech Z-2300 and I always feel like turning them up. It's strange how these more expensive speakers always sound like they're not loud enough.

This technology is a breakthrough if it exists. But if it doesn't then it is not.
I see you don't like KDE configuration files.

The name of the surgeon who *intentionally* aggressed me and left me with a handicapped left hand is: Julien Poitras.

You're righter than you think. :(
How do you know that there isn't a bug in modinfo? Look at the driver not at modinfo.

Software patents are no more, according to a recent court decision.

Butters, what the hell are you doing?

Has the Cell processor been considered as a GPU for the Open Graphics Project?
I tried white LEDs. They output 50% of the light of incandescent bulbs for the same electricity.
The manufacturer claimed energy savings, but that was comparing bright incandescent bulbs to dim LEDs.
