"Since the Cisco was rebooted there were no logs to look at" or you guys have a seriously weird logging set up. Rebooting a Cisco box shouldn't nuke the log, it should still be there. Also, here's a hint "logging a.b.c.d" will get it to log to an external syslog server.
or maybe you're just a prick, dunno: "It turns out they hadn't been able to get their hands on the version of video chipset that my laptop used" the blame was with the laptop manufacturer for not providing them with the specs for the chipset. i'm going with the "you're an arrogant prick" theory myself...
if noone's dealt with them, you need to know that they're great. I used their MetroExpress (now MetroX) Xserver for Linux and had an issue with the display. I emailed them at noon on a Friday with the details, and by noon the following Monday had a custom file sent to me that fixed my problem (just a work-around). It turns out they hadn't been able to get their hands on the version of video chipset that my laptop used so they weren't sure what settings to use, or some such. I sent them my laptop and they figured it all out, fixing it the right way. Great people...
"the police can gain the records at any time without a warrant. Only people with something to hide need fear anything" I am stunned that these words could be spoken by a semi-intelligent person. I cannot fathom that you would so oeasily give up one of your fundamental rights becasue "you have nothing to hide". Know what? I have nothing too hide either, and I'd be seriously Pissed Off(tm) if our police were able to willy-nilly get to my "records" without a warrant. Just becasue someone ELSE is a prick and needs to be prosecuted for a crime, doesn't give the authorities the right to look at MY shit. You must be from the UK or something - if you'll remember, it was just this type of BS that made the founding fathers say "To hell with THAT", and create the US. You want intrusive police, fine, stay the hell away.....
yikes!! well, down here, (suburban south) $75,000/yr is a enough for 2 cars, a 4 bedroom house on an acre or so, etc. etc. (hmmmm, i have a 4 bedroom house on an acre and 2 cars...wonder how much i make?) i pay 8.5% sales tax (Texas, not all states are the same), NO state income tax, and as far as federal: i "technically" earned $70,000 and paid $6,921.00 in federal income taxes. if i had a mortgage instead of paid rent, i could have deducted that interest from my federal taxes (it would have reduced my income). as much as i despise federal taxes here, we seem to have it easy when compared to our international peers...
the Los Alamos team demonstrated is a state in what is called a "decoherence-free subspace." subspace
and even better: (although I admit it's a bit of a stretch) "Decoherence in Kwiat's system is intentionally created by passing the entangled photons through a roughly 10 millimeter piece of quartz." Ummmm - di-litium, anyone?
Sorry, these just seemed ironic direct corelations...
a roentgen is sort of a "raw" measure - depending on they type of radiation, 1rg == 1rem for most (and it's rems that matter). for NEUTRON radiation, 1rg == 10 rads - so 'trons are Bad News(tm)
but they're a public corporation now (symbol rhat IIRC), and lo and behold, they're starting to act like one. This is all just part of corporate chest thumping and back slapping....
was the one where they had to build a cannon out of scrap. The whole thing is a neat exercise in how that weird feeling (at the beginning of a product's life cycle) of "Something about this idea just doesn't seem right", which keeps coming as that "some thing" keeps causeing no end of problems, until you finally go to test the whole enchilada and then, BAM! Doh, we need a dope slap! No wonder nobody else does it that way!
And when we sold phone equipment to perceived "Bad Guys(TM)" (big switches, etc.), we made sure the vendor included a hidden explosive so we could disable it remotely....
Written by Alexander Tyler about the fall of the Athenian Republic over a thousand years ago. He wrote this when the original thirteen colonies were still under British rule.
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by dictatorship. The average age of the worlds great civilizations has been two hundred years.
These nations have progressed from BONDAGE to spiritual faith.
From spiritual faith to great courage.
From courage to liberty.
From liberty to abundance.
From abundance to selfishness.
From selfishness to complacency.
From complacency to apathy.
From apathy to dependency.
From dependency back to BONDAGE."
It seems pretty insightful to me. BTW I'm voting for Nader just to thumb my nose at the Reps and Dems
IIRC, all involved parties have *clearly* stated their intention to bring this to the SC anyway, if all of the appeals don't go their way. This seems like a compelling reason (to me anyways) for the SC to say "Screw it, let's get this over with.". Add this to the fact that MS is very obviously wanting this to take as long as possible, and it sort of ticks me off. When you look at a legal battle, you can bet the side who wants it to take the longest, is probably the one more in the wrong.
MicroShaft, BY DEFAULT NO LESS, has opted for a format that is incompatible with competing standards!?!?!?!? I'm not buying it; the next thing you know you'll try and convince me that they engage in shady business practices and have unstable OS's.......
"event horizon) of the black hole (crossing this line means you never come back" Actually, the event horizon is the point that LIGHT crosses and never comes back. I have a hunch the point that a human in a realistic space craft would have this problem at a much further distance, as that person/spacecraft would have quite a bit more mass than those photons. I.E. Mankind's event horizon happens much further out than light's....(I think, anyways)
"because smartdrv really isn't very smart" Hell, it was downright stoopid - it was a SECTOR cache!! In other words, unless the data/file you were accessing just happened to start and end at a sector boundary, it wasn't caching the file at all. Very wasteful and inefficient. It was actually better to set your smartdrv cache at a size just big enough to cache your FAT, and just leave it at that. You got very diminishing returns going beyond caching the FAT.....
"I mean, one would assume that cisco's have some wacky hardware in them" they actually use a lot of standard stuff. 2500's, for example, use a Motorola 68030 (or one in that family) CPU, some NVRAM for permanent config stuff, some flash RAM as a sort of hard drive (permanent storage, the actual IOS image is stored there) and some DRAM for, well, DRAM stuff. (interface buffers, among other things), The higher end stuff uses RISC CPU's (MIPS for instance). Also, IOS is based on *nix, I believe, so I'd have thought this would be a fairly straight forward hack.
just the russkie's deep diving ones (the alpha is the only one i can remember, but i'm sure there's more. the mike class maybe?)) are made of titanium. all u.s., and i think most russkie, are made of steel.
Why is it that always spot a problem, and then, implement a fix to that problem that is asinine? (Admitting upfront that I'm being typical in griping and not offering a better solution) Why don't more organizations do the following? 1)Spot a problem 2)Find a like organization that doesn't have that problem for reasons that are workable 3) implement their solution? To make an extremely BAD example - America has a crime problem. Suadi Arabia does not. If America started beheading thieves, they wouldn't have a crime problem either. The methodology should work if you picked better examples, right?

i'm flattered that you went to the trouble of doing that.

There's a fundamental flaw in our age measuring process???? Could we simply be measuring their ages incorrectly?
