  1. ummmm a rock? on Exploring the Asteroids · · Score: 1

ok - i am admittedly excited about this, and it seems that a lot of folks are as well BUT - aren't we getting pretty excited about basically orbiting a rock? anyone got some insight as to what kind of "deliverables" this research is expected to generate? i thought we were already pretty durn sure of the makeup of these things. don't get me wrong - if i were voting for this, i would definitely vote FOR it just because of its nerd-factor....

READ THE SURVEY!!! jeez-o-pizza they repeatedly set the surveyee up!!!! Let me quote from one: "QUESTION: As you may know, the case impacts consumers. Some people say that Microsoft has repeatedly ***benefited consumers with its products***. Others say Microsoft's ***business practices*** have hurt consumers. Which side do you agree with more?" NOTE - some say their PRODUCTS benefit, some say their PRACTICES benefit. BLATANT bait and switch. Set the question up talking about one thing, then phrase the available answers so it sounds like you're only answering to one. (Only choices were "hurt consumer" "help consumer"). errrrrrr I can't wait until I can get going at work so I don't have to use this crap ANYWHERE!!

  4. sheesh on Survey Says 63% of Americans Like MS the Way It Is · · Score: 1

Given the obvious (timing, founders, etc.) this survey tells ME that 63% of MS wants MS to stay the same. Anyone else find it a bit humorous that an obviously loaded poll gets only 63%? I guess the argument can be made that if they steered it to something like 85%, it'd be obvious to even my sister, but still....I'm still holding out hope that the instability of this crap is causing grief at high enough levels that the typical clueless purse-string holder is opening his/her eyes....I was at one company wher I got the CFO online, he launched some durn MS product, and he sat and played with the friggin paper-clip for HOURS. Isn't it a shame that sort of thing is frequently the reason people buy this crap?

Wow - my post gets moderated DOWN to a zero for sharing my experience of another type of electrically oriented fireball, and this "If you really must know the truth, ball lightning is nothing but fire elementals summoned by level 5 warlocks. They cost 100 spell points, that's why they are so rare. See, my explanation is just as good, go get a real job." gets moderated UP. Are moderators a bunch of elitist fucks trying to discourage well-intended participation, or am I missing something? (of course, this will get moderated down as well, becasue I have also learned they don't like you to ask questions on here)

  8. Wanna hear a bunch of grown men scream on Ball Lightning Explained? · · Score: 2

like little girls? OK, so I can't give a lot of details, but when I was in the service, we inadvertently created an electrical fireball, umm, somewhere. I mean, it lept out of this, ummm, piece of equipment, and started bouncing around the compartment. I was just close enough when it started to hear my fellow servicemen screaming, and me, being not too bright, run *towards* the screaming. Just in time to see the thing bounce into a wall and disipate a la T2 materializing. So there must be multiple ways for these things to form (no silicon in **my** fireball)if they got it right....

The information I am posting assumes (I think safely)that you are a techie. I am as well and actually, legally, started my own company. After a few short months, I simply folded all the paperwork into a manilla folder, chunked it in a closet, and went back to work for a large Computer Oriented Major Pc And generally Quality hardware company. I have to tell ya, I really thought I could do the business stuff and the tech stuff myself. I even did my own (and I think good) marketing. BUT - on the BUSINESS side, I got totally "hitherto'd", "whereas'd" and "aforementioned" TO DEATH. Oh, you wanna set up a reseller agreement with (fill in mega software company of choice here) well, you need to send us $2500.00 and a copy of (inane government form here). OK, Me: friendly government, how do I get this inane form? Governemt: you need to submit a notorized copy form G7d. Me: And how do i get *that* form? Governemt: Go to the post office, and fill out form g8d - "Request for form g7d". Me: I need a beer If this makes it beyond a 2-3 person gig, you will need some business help, IMHO

  10. It'll NEVER happen on Microsoft Plans Media Player for Linux? · · Score: 1

I will be totally surprised if this ever happens. Let's look at a few salient facts - WinXXXX, ALL major releases, even though having the FULL attention and efforts from ARMIES of coders, were comically and consistently delayed. Now, obviously, this ain't an entire OS (and I'd argue that neither are winXXXX), but c'mon. This will obviously only have passing interest, from a limited number of coders at a delay-prone company. If this ever sees the light of day, I'll be an old man and it won't be open source. (JMHO)

Now they post a faq, and it DOES get posted. (I'm not pouting here, just looking for info) Why? Is the faq really more important than the merger itself? Is the content of your submission - i.e. what YOU add to the submission, more important than the submission itself. I was, admittedly, rather brief in adding comments to the submission.
