The parent isn't a troll, but it misses a large point. Firefox is still better and slimmer than the Mozilla suite and has better features than IE. A strictly minimal browser will not capture the larger market: Otherwise Lynx and other text browsers would rule the world.

I mean think about it, images hog bandwidth and memory. If you want to be small and efficient then a text browser is the wave of the future. People like features, they like the appearance of progress. You can go too far with both and that will always be an issue (which some other plucky startup, or multinational, will solve).

Now I've seen off-topic replies and generated a few of them myself. But to confuse a SEC stock investigation with an unrelated ESRB issue? However, I'm generous, so let's doctor this post up with a reed thin connector:

This is a maliciously motivated attempt by the SEC to prosecute a company based on a rabid assault from the Religeous Right. This theocractic government, not content with ESRB guidelines and FCC fines is going beyond the pale by trying to collapse the stock price even further. I think the EFF needs to get involved to defend our liberties!

See, it's not hard to construct on-topic argument based on personal bias.

You might, but for someone looking for a semi-portable desktop replacement it's fine, though expensive. The only place I take my main computer is lan parties...otherwise any old laptop will do for business purposes.

That being said, the Dell 20.1" laptop is better but still too expensive for me.

I doubt that they will simply "switch places". Even if they do switch marketplace positions then AMD has a long way to go in production capacity. Heh, I am a fan and a stockholder (very minor) of AMD, but it will take years to pull ahead of Intel in absolute terms.

Besides, useful competition simply means having someone nipping at your heels. One does not have to be neck and neck with a competitor to spur innovation.

Hmm? I'm off-topic? Oh, right. Well it's great that this nice little app has been ported to Linux.

You make good points, but this might be the generation to bridge that gap. I speak only for myself, but I've lost that drive to upgrade my video card every 1.5 years to play new games.

Graphics are always improving first on the PC, but no new "wow" factors have emerged that make gameplay a totally different experience in recent years. On-line play has been a distinction, but even that has diminished with Xbox live and will probably decrease even further now.

For me, buying a PS3 (or a xbox 360 if the doomsayers are right) is more about getting a stable platform that will be good for 5+ years. But it will have a PC's gaming power for the first two years and will likely be in shouting distance even after 4.

Perhaps the PSX3 or 360 is the Neo Geo/3DO reborn; yet this time I think it might be the time for it.

  10. Re:Congrats Nintendo on Nintendo Announces Japanese Wii Price · · Score: 1

Both Sony and Microsoft should have paid attention to history. The Jaguar, Saturn, Neo-Geo, and Turbografix were all consoles that were on the cutting edge of technology. They all lost out to consoles that were inexpensive, built with off-the-shelf components (plus/minus a custom part or two), and were easily manufactured using less-than-cutting-edge technology.

The same history that sees dual (quad) SLI cards and Alienware, a company dedicated to selling cutting edge, overpriced, PCs? The same history that has companies producing games like Doom3, FEAR, & Oblivion that require a current generation card to avoid a series of slideshows?

I think both Sony and Microsoft will do well enough this round. The PSP didn't bust the Gameboy monopoly, but it's hardly a failure either. And as long as the games don't cost $200 each, I think they can avoid the NeoGeo flop. Microsoft upped the price only by $10 and I think Sony will follow suit.

If you look around for the 2pt font paragraph on the reverse side at the bottom of the offer letter you will see that they have explicitly spelled out the rights, none, to which you are entitled. If you have any complaints, they may be referred to company arbitration. You may expect a dimissal of your suit within three days of receipt.

It's cheaper (two movie tickets is often more than the DVD price, and you can watch the DVD whenever you like)

That's why I love living in West "By God" Virginia. They only recently hiked the rates to $5.50. I get my broad band, see my movies on the cheap, and can afford a house with real land! Of course, we have yet to get a Starbucks, but I will live somehow. But I would say the experience is better in a theater. If our home sets are better, then why do we compete for ever larger jumbo-tron TV sets? The difference in home vs. theater is smaller than it ever was, but I still go for movies that benefit from big screens.
