I installed FB Purity, decided I didn't like it, uninstalled it, and was immediately locked out of Facebook for a supposed phishing attack. Stupid me, I guess. So beware.
If you're comparing Win7 to Win10, there ARE some benefits to go along with the added adware and reduced end-user control, often features added for Win 8. A couple examples off the top of my head:
-System refresh tools are MUCH better. Windows still craps out from time to time, but refreshing the OS, either in place or as a clean install, is much easier.
-POWERCFG give you more useful info to help diagnose why your laptop runs hot or kills your battery
But really, if you're happy with Win7 the only critical reason to upgrade is if you expect your computer to last beyond the end-of-life date for the OS in 2020.
OTOH, buying a new computer with Win7 just to avoid Win10 is dumb.
In all this discussion of climate change, pollution, carbon emissions, etc... people almost always leave out the core problem. The solution to these problems starts and ends with having fewer people. With advances in technology, each of us, as individuals, pollutes much less on average than we did in the past. But there are so many more of us, that doesn't matter.
Remember when Apple tried to force us to buy headphones with volume and selection controls built-in by removing the controls from smaller their music players? Didn't last long.
I've invested in decent headphones. I won't be buying players that force me to replace them or use a shitty external DAC.
Why isn't this iOS 9.31? When my phone already running 9.3 told me that and upgrade to version 9.3 was now available, I didn't know whether it actually was a new version.
Uh-huh. And just for the sake of comparison, what do the CEOs at those noble 'for profit' government defense contractors make on a yearly basis? The article mentioned Lockheed Martin, whose CEO made $25 million in 2013:

You guys do realize that Shine is not an end-user ad-blocker? That it's something ISPs run so they can decide what content is approved and what should be blocked? In other words, something that violates any sensible net-neutrality principles?
If you want to try speech control, Windows Speech Recognition is just about as good at recognizing speech as Dragon, has enough control features to be functional, and comes with Win7 and above for free.
That $9/month (more or less) that I pay is not enough to support a ecosystem to create new works, but it's plenty to milk more out of old works. Book subscription services (Amazon/Scribd/Oyster) live off the past. There's little chance that any new book that I want to read is in their libraries, but with 700,000 old books available, there's enough to keep me occupied, much in the same way that I can sit with Netflix and kill time with 10 years of Grey's Anatomy instead of supporting new works.
...as long as the screen isn't visibly damaged. The venue will be buying me a new one to replace it after the concert.
Now if only services didn't force us to use symbols and numerals in our passwords, we'd be all set.
Apparently I was just collateral damage in an ongoing battle. Whatever. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

Note how the test only shows download speed, because our corporate masters want us to be good little consumers, not competitors/

My vinyl is worth a buttload 'o bucks now, and my CDs will be someday.
I always loved Robert Heinlein's "I Will Fear No Evil". Society going crazy, brain/head transplants. We're right on track.
Today's US government is MUCH more corporate-friendly.

People have run multiple marathons on the space station before this. I'd Google it, but I'm on my phone. In space.

Apple can 'fix' this problem any time. My iPhone 4 was fine until an iOS upgrade killed it's performance, necessitating a newer, faster phone..

And I didn't log in on a reimaged PC before posting. Oops.

Windows isn't your problem. Why weren't you running AV before? Why can't you configure it properly now?
It's consumer interest that drives this. More people cared about getting music and movies. Most people don't read much.
